Themed or Cheese

Ok had a couple of games today with my all sanguinary guard army at my lgs and a lot of the other players finally aprreciated a themed army vs the cheese list most of the other blood angel players had. And this got me thinking what type of army lists do you like to see more? BA cheese lists or themed army lists like all DC or All SG type lists.

Pardon my ignornace but what exactly is considered cheese by our bretheren? The mephiston/dante/SG/RAS/Baal/5man DC lists? Or the razor spam lists?

I'd like to see an all DC army. I'm considering doing a DC army with Tycho at the head. Or perhaps a 'daul-wing' army of SG and DC. Personally, the flexibility of our book if fantastic.

Maybe I should redefine cheese and instead call it power gaming or trying to run the most effecient ill win most of my games list vs this army sounds like a good idea and probably really fun to play type army. So fun lists or competative lists?

razor spam here and I feel it's fluffy. I wouldn't say it's cheese because I have to work really hard for a win when it comes to KPs but a surgical strike tank squadron is cool to me. Everyone at my LGS says it's cheese but I can't really think off whats cheesy in our codex.

I'd say the fluffiest lists I've seen have a libby dread, some DC, a few rhino/razorbacks, and stormravens. Always wit hsome JP troops too. I would also say mephiston is the fluffiest thing in our codex.

i understandwhat hes saying :) tbh there are a few nasty things that you do with our book ;) for example, you can put the sanguinor near a ten man sqaud of lightning claw terminators, that also conatins a sanguinary priest and and a chaplain. who wouldnt be petrified of that? tanks you say? well why not have a squad of jump pack honour guard all with meltaguns then, dropping down behind a tank and melting the :cuss out of it before it has a chance to do anything else?

while these are fun, they could be a touch to over-competeive for casual and friendly gaming. too tell the truth, if im not in a competition, and im absoloutely owning someone, i start to feel bad :) to be honest we all know how it feels when NOTHING goes your way. a pretty dirty ork tactic is to have a squad of twenty nobs with a painboy. that fnp makes them soo hard to get rid of!

admittedly, whilst those tactics above are quite fun to use, to an extent they will just allow you to steamroll (if rather expensively) most opponents. but it is possible to have fun without being harsh sometimes. howabout three stromravens? ruddy good fun, but by no means unstoppsable :) or howabout a veteran army? just lots of sternguards and vanguards? again, good fun but not invincible.

basically, for competions, just go all out with a brutal list. you know most others will. but with friendlies, use those games to play a few random lists and just have true fun! :)

It sounds fun, but it really isn't. Your army plays like electric football, running all over the board with no real decision making by you. The real problem with this army is that your opponent plays it for you; the smarter he is, the worse it plays. Thus you will only mow down inexperienced players - which is never fun. Proxy it three times before building it. I guarantee you won't end up building it.

Yea I really loved the idea of DC until I tried out how badly effected they are by rage, and it really is just a huge handicap, stormravens are really the only way to manage it, but I honestly don't feel that for their cost and how they mesh with DC that they are worth it, they are just too easily taken down or totally sidelined by even str 6 weaponry.

Even running a fully mech list is pretty terribly challenging, since your not able to assault out of vehicles and a smart opponent can as Massa has said totally control how your troops react.

Fluffy yes, but I find a good opponent enough of a challenge without worrying about my own army doing silly things :cuss

I'm definately more into fluff than competitiveness, I think its a general consensus that the min/max razorback squads are pretty cheap, not just because its a pretty strong list, but also because its an army thats mainly a single choice over and over again to take advantage of the discount on a transport when you take an AS squad with no JPs.

I love fluff, and i always include DC when i can, but id like to once again say i prefer to have at least one tac RB in my list as its just so good at covering fire (Even without discounts) due to there bolters - the most underated weapon of the game.
