Righteous Creed

So I am still getting thoughts as to what I am going to be doing with this chapter but here are just some of the basic ideas I have.

Righteous Creed

Origin

Just years before the out brake of the Horus Heresy a detachment of 300 Salamanders were sent out to Eastern Fringe on a recon mission in the star ship Marcrieas trying to see if any of humanity from the Golden Age had survived. But because of the warp disturbance in this time they over shot there mark and ended up further into unknown space and with the terrible storms they dared not make another warp jump.

Instead they travelled around in the system and stumbled across a human inhabited planet called Castitus(pure). That despite appearing to not have had any contact with other humans for millenniums it's economy and culture was not about to crumble. Wanting to report this back immediately they prepared to jump back and relay what they had found. Unfortunately they were attacked by Dark Eldar raiders who despite being fended off destroyed the warp drives and the Salamanders only just managed to limp back to Castitus.

The last message they managed to get out from the Marcrieas was answered by the Ultramarines. But they were promptly told by Roboute Guilliman that there were more important things right now than the "rescue" of a couple of Salamanders and not to try and contact again unless they were contacted first.

When the Horus Heresy finally ended there was so much confusion and rebuilding to do that the 300 were forgotten and thought to have been lost in the Massacre of Isstvan V. So they waited, rebuilt and investigated systems nearby for thousands of years. Never being able to return to the Imperiam because the people of Castitus lacked the knowledge to build a warp drive.

They continued on like this acting as the protectors and warriors of Castitus in return the people of Castitus supplied them with supplies and new recruits which they turned into Salamanders in the infirmary one of the only things that they managed to salvage from Marcrieas.

Until the M36 were the Chaos god _____ showed Penurium the Second in Command(the 1st in Command is unknown his death came quickly after Penurium received his vision) a vision of the reality of what had happened in the Imperium since there absence and the lies of the Emperor and betrayal of Roboute Guilliman.

So in exchange for the change to get revenge on the Imperium who left them there to wither away until none were left they offered their service and the planet of Castitus as a sacrifice for this chance. And so they removed the symbol of there once great Legion and became the Righteous Creed foe of the Imperium and death of the hated Ultramarine Chapter.

So just some thoughts not too sure if it works so far as historically but I like it. I also am not sure as to which Chaos god to use. Feed back and criticism welcome but please go easy on me, first chapter. Also any ideas for colour scheme would be nice and I will try and get up some more info up, such as combat doctrine etc.

I'd use the Hydra, and he's not a Chaos God yet - just a particulalry powerful warp entity - maybe the current command staff of the unit (doubtful that they would be the original marines from circa Heresy) investigated a Chaos temple, long abandoned, and which was flitting in and out of a rip in the Immaterium..

As these guys were cut off before the Heresy, they'd have little idea of the Demonic, and maybe the Hydra or one of its minions showed them an alternative vision of reality, where as you said, Roboute and perhaps their own Primarch had destroyed the Imperium? Perhaps it is a "duality" where Horus had not fallen (maybe they were shown the Dornian Heresy?) and threw their lot in whith the Hydra against both the other Chaos gods and the Imperium, who had allowed the Emperor to die. Perhaps the subtle instructions led the planet further and further to the worship of the Hydra, and eventually the planet was firmly in its grip, such that when it asked for teh lives of the populace as sacrifice, the order was given without a word of dissent? And maybe the goal of the Righteous Creed is to bring about the birth of the 5th Chaos God? Perhaps they find unlikey alliances in heretics in teh Inquisition who supply them with weapons and armour of loyalists, and maybe they also ally themselves with other Chaos dissidents such as the Sons of Malice?

Hay there thanks for the reply. I like the idea of using Hydra and of there duty to him being to make him a chaos god. But I am going to keep them as working by themselves rather than with Inquisitors etc. Just because if they have there own planet that is still fairly advanced they can produce there own vehicles and weapons. Also about them being original marines i want them to stay this way other wise they would not have been able to contact Roboute Guillman and then not be able to hate Ultramarines. Final thing i like the idea of them both hating the Imperiam and Chaos for allowing the Emperor to die i will chanage that when i get a chance.

issue is that with original marines, there is no precedent to having a marine 10 thousand units old, outside of a Dread, or Warp travel or being stuck in the Eye.

New inductees could be taught the new credo, even as far as being indioctrinated by the Hydra or one of his minions....
