dread-off

Recommended Posts

No problems!

Have you guys tried bending the dread feet (or any plastic part) with salt dipping?

That's what I did with the left foot on my dread, kinda tricky but it worked. If you try it, just be careful not to leave detailed parts in for too long, they tend to get a bit soft and lose some of their detailing...

Looking forward to seeing more awesome dreads.

i tried salt dipping for scout legs (back when i wanted to do a tenth company force - might resurrect that at some point)

but it went wrong - and worked at the same time - i probably left the bits in the salt for too long. legs bent fine but they all looked like they were wearing wellies.

so might try that again at some point, but small cuts on the feet of a dreadnought seem to work for me at the moment.

must say, am blown away by these dreads, and it is helping me focus and think of new ideas - should we pick something else next month and see what we come up with?

Hey all, finally got some pics for my entry. Pre-Heresy Dark Angels Ven Dread:

Also have pics of the other dread for this army. Same style but made as a Mortis pattern with 2 twin-linked autocannons:

If anyone wants a run-down on how to make a similar one just let me know. Cheers

Some very inspiring and impressive 'minis' are appearing in this thread...

Those dreadnoughts are pretty cool Power Hungry Monkey. I particularly like the way you've used CCW arms to build all your weapons. Very pre-heresy looking :)

they are simply awesome,

i would love a rundown on the autocannon arms, i think know all the bits apart from the ammo box between the two ammo drums?

and where did you get the lion for the top of the plasma gun?

in my own opinion, however; the autocannons themselves look a bit ungainly and cumbersome, will probably shorten them if i make one.

but fantastic use of the sentinel legs, it makes the dreads look more dynamic, but doesn't make the legs look like they'd snap is a guardsman gave them a dirty look.

Cheers for the kind words. The autocannons and the ammo hoppers are both from the Planet Strike sets. All I've really done ith them is moved the cannons closer together and then stuck em to the end of the sisemic hammer arm from thr Ironclad. To get the same arm on the right arm I used the powerfist arm and a spare hammer arm I had, just cut off the arm mount from the hammer and put in in the same spot on the fist arm.

I know what you mean by cumbersome, for ages I was thinkin of shortening the barrels but I fel it would make the arms too stubby then. I think having the arms pointed downwards helps to lessen the awkardness of the length.

The lion head on the plasma cannon of the Ven Dread is from the High Elves White Lion Charioteers, its one of their shoulder pads. I'm also using the actual lion heads as shoulder pads for some termies.

I've seen the sentinal legs used a lot of time for dreads in the past but it seems everyone insits on useing all 3 leg sections so their dreads end up looking like overgrown sentinals; not a look I like at all. I've just used the top 2 sections of the sentinal legs to make mine and the bottom section I fine to be too long and out of proportion with the other sections. It was just a matter then of adding pipes, wires, cables and a bit of armour plating so they didin't look stick-thin.

There are some great dreads here

Heres my Ironclad with its WIP Upscaled Terminator Assult Cannon.

I'll try and get it finished this weekend.
