It's looking good, could be a tough category though. Having a Forgeworld model, I'm not sure that is that big of an advantage actually. It is good you attempted the freehand it looks fine, but yeah, some people are ungodly.

I'd like a more detailed account of your gold/brass recipe. I may have to try it.

Cheers,

The gold's fairly simple, but time consuming - it's basically NMM shading style with metals, so lots of layers.

Start by blocking in with scorched brown.

Then a 50-50 mix of scorched brown and VMC bronze, leaving edges under recesses.

Then pure VMC bronze - first highlight

Then 50-50 VMC bronze and VMC old gold - second highlight

Then pure VMC old gold - third highlight

Then 50-50 VMC old gold and mithril silver for edge highlights

Then pure mithril silver for extreme highlights

Tone down with glazes of gryphonne sepia towards recesses

Deep shade recesses with directed washes of badab black - also do this under the extreme highlights to pop the contrast a little more

Finally pin wash with badab black in the deepest recesses.

Moah progress, slowed a little by some hot weather that's made blending difficult (even with a wet palette). This'll probably be the last update for a couple of weeks as I'm heading down to the inlaws' in Sussex. I'll be taking some stuff down with me, hopefully I'll be bringing this and the Chaplain dread back pretty much finished. :-)

Anyway, pics:

  • 3 weeks later...

Got basically nothing done in Sussex, so today I made a push to finish the legs and torso (less some final weathering).

Aye, it does blend in a bit. I wanted to go with a typical Behemoth scheme for the 'nid - ties in with the Tyrannic War veteran theme I have going. Other little details are things like the wheat ears on the engine block indicating that Vorenus originally hails from Iax... Going back to the 'nid, I'll probably blend some purple ink into the recesses to help it pop some and give the shell an iridescent look.

That sir is by far one of the best dreads i've seen :D

Just wish i could paint that well,

My only critique would be the squares on the weapons as in the black & white cheques personally they dont seem to fit with me sorry man, But the free hand and detail of it is simple immense :D

Sir i take my hat off to you ! Good luck at GD :D
