New to chaos

Howdy all, First post =D

I first started collecting a little bit after Dawn of War came out. I accumulated a small Space Marine force, but got bored of them and moved on to Necrons which I loved.

3 paint jobs later, I still find my Space Marines to be boring. I'm gonna strip their paint and convert them to chaos =D

I just got 2 squads of Thousand Sons and the Terminator Chaos Lord.

I was thinking about making a combined force of Thousand Sons and Alpha Legion and maybe one or two other legions/chapters.

I've also got a squad of Dark Angel Veterans which kind of influenced my desire to do Alpha Legion

I want them to be not quite Chaos. Everyone knows the Alpha Legion's devotion to Chaos is questionable at best, and Fallen Dark Angels may not be Chaos at all

So I want advice and ideas based around that theme. What's another Legion or Renegade Chapter that would fit that theme?

What Sorcerer powers to take? Unit composition?

Whatever you can think of.

Also, I hate painting vehicles. So a mostly infantry army is another plus

Here's my current stuff, aiming for 2000 points

269 - 8 TS, Sorceror, bolt of change

254 - 8 TS, Sorceror, Doombolt

150 - Terminator Lord, combi weapon, daemon weapon

still to be converted

165 - 10 CSM, meltagun, flamer

170 - 10 CSM, plasma gun, flamer

240 - 10 chosen, plasma pistol, power sword, lightning claw, power fist - (dark angel and normal veterans)

150 - 5 chosen, 4 power weapons - (grey knights)

140 - 5 raptors, champion, melta bomb, power axe, bolter

1368 points

Also have two squads of termies, but I haven't the inclination to deal with them till I start converting the others.

Can I make a Sorcerer Cabal sort of thing? I know it isn't in the codex but I have an extra sorcerer, Ezekiel of the dark angels, and an incoming daemonhunters inquisitor that I'm going to convert.

Welcome to the B&C, enjoy your stay :)

As for the not-worshipping-Chaos, I think the Night Lords tend to be quite hate-filled towards worship, so any Raptors could be Night Lords?

I find the Dark Angel kit is good to do Word Bearers with, but Thousand Sons is your choice. Right, you want foot-slogging... you've got a heavy amount of Chosen which, to me, seems like a good idea since you can up-close and personal quickly.

However, I'm new to the Pantheon so forgive me for misguided information :)

As an additional point to what Skirax has posted, the Soul Drinkers are considered Renegade, although they themselves still consider themselves Loyalist. Perhaps they might suit? Especially as a few of the Marines have developed Mutations - perfect for a conversion or two (through no fault of their own, if I recall correctly)

Out of general interest, what is it that about Space Marines that makes them uninteresting? Their fluff? Appearance?

(I'm an old school Black Legion Player who may one day get an Army going again, so I know what the call to Chaos is like :pirate: )

I'll look at some soul drinkers stuff, I've never researched them.

As for leaving SM, the fluff is great. I originally was making a generic army which soon was repainted as legion of the damned

Then they released the new SM codex and removed the ability to field themas an army

Plus the ultramarine circlejerking. I changed them into dark angels then. But I always got pasted.

Plus chaos just has so many awesome models. AND I can convert anything to chaos so I can use all the coolest models I want

I am fielding my former Legion of the Damned army as the majority of a Chaos army, as I think the paint scheme (Skulls!) matches up real well. :P

Of course, with Counts As in many cases the paint scheme is irrelevant to the codex being played (Khorne under Blood Angels etc.)

Welcome to Chaos. Enjoy your stay.

One little thing regarding your list. You may not like vehicles, but your opponents will probably have plenty of them. I'd suggest breaking your 10man squad of chosen up into 2 squads of 5, and include some meltaguns and flamers.

I would love to see some grey knights with a chaos influence. Be sure to include some pictures soon.

Pics here. Just not a lot of progress...

I haven't gotten to their last 3 guys and their sorcerer yet. I wanted to do that variant paint scheme that they suggest for Black Legion in the codex (just because it looks cool)

254 - 8 TS, Sorceror, Doombolt

Terminator Lord with Alpha Legion Paint scheme

150 - Terminator Lord, combi weapon, daemon weapon

202 - 9 chosen, flamer, plasma gun, 2x meltagun

222 - 9 Chosen, 4 power weapons (2 meltas and 2 flamers too)

9 Chosen, 1 power weapon... I think I arranged these squads badly...

170 - 10 CSM, plasma gun, flamer

150 - 10 CSM, 4 still to be assembled

2 guys I'm converting into sorcerers

http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx21/Faskinated/Hodgepodge.jpg

and a random hodgepodge of unallocated marines

I would like pointers as to how each squad should be assembled.

I also think I should make a havoc squad to take all those stupid meltaguns, but I'm not rearranging squads until tomorrow or something.

Unpictured are the 5 man assault squad (who don't need much converting), assault termies, normal termies, and a sniper scout squad.

I plan to add cloaks and skirt things to standard marines to make them fit more with their new Chosen buddies (assuming they remain in the squad)

I tested a few other paint schemes and stuff. Mostly represented are Pre-heresy Dark Angels (cause I didn't have green at the time) and a Dark Angels variant with gold trim.

Most paint will be stripped by some kind of cleaner and backpacks shall be modified. I'll put up pics of a couple test ones I already made tomorrow.

I shall have a complete points cost list in the morrow.

Thanks for input so far =D

off-topic: HEY I GOT THE SAME KEYBOARD xD

And you make the picture on the same place i do, in front of it xD

Anyhow, very nice, I like the finished wing with the fire on it, very nice indeed, really since you used greenstuff!

You want to put meltaguns in your havock squad, remember that havocks are heavy weapon specialist. So if you really want melta's in it, remember not to take a heavy weapon, as you won't be able to move and shoot the heavy - not move and shoot heavy but not get close with melta's.

I do tend to keep my melta's in my standard csm, but my gaming friends all are heavy mech based, so i don't need to finish large hordes of infintry.

As for your 9 chosen with 4 power weapons, I don't have codex with me, but i thought you could only take 1 power weapon with you in that squad.

Remember that chosen are an elite troop choise, they cost a lot of points and you can only field so few. Try considering if you don't want to make them normal CSM, but again this is your army, just giving my point of view.

Anyway, welcome to B&C, and glad you turned renegade , muhahahaha

Tis quite an awesome keyboard ;)

Up to four members of the squad may replace with power weapons.

Thing is, being that I originally constructed most of my army before I got the codex, I didn't realize I needed bolters to fill up squads. I have too many meltaguns and flamers plus people with 2 pistols or a bolter and a pistol.

So it would better to mix my anti vehicle into the standard CSM squads?

Ah ok, haven't fielded/moddelled any choosen so far so didn't read that section very well.

Well, CSM doesn't need to wield a bolter to have it on him (standard non-ugraded) It's is in his 'Hello, welcome to Chaos' package. So the guys with bolter+boltpistol are ok but they can only shoot one at a time. The guys with 2 pistol, well you can say they're just for looks. unless it's a plasmapistol+boltpistol.

As for if it's better. Well, in my gaming-circle it is. I use my havocks with 4 heavy weapons and let them stay back somewhere save where they don't move and can shoot evry round. I can image people use havocks as assault troops too and give them 4 assault weapons like the melta's or flamers because they can take four and normal csm only 2 considering you take a minimum of 10 in a squad.

But I like them more in my CSM, cause they are good at close combat, so you'll be moving most of your CSM into close combat anyway, while your havock stays back.

Space marines can take more special weapons in a squad, and stay back behind the lines and just shoot at you, while CSM can only take 2 max, one always being an assault, one an assault or heavy. If it's a heavy , you only have ONE in a group of 10 CSM, who all have to stand still to fire 1 single Heavy, while the others probably won't be close enough to shout their weapons. If it's an assault weapon, well, you get the point, assault with it.

But yet again, this is my point of view mate, it's up to you what you want. I recommand playing some proxies where you field them as choosen en later as CSM and see what you like best

I'm thinking I might want to drop the Raptor squad in favor of another HQ.

A command squad sort of thing made of a bunch of converted sorcerers. Can anyone find rules for that?

Converted Ezekiel, Cypher, Converted Daemonhunters Inquisitor, TS Sorcerer, Flaming wing guy. It would look amazing.

Behold. I has updates

http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx21/Faskinated/ThousandSonsSquad2.jpg

These guys are done

http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx21/Faskinated/CSMSquad1-1.jpg

And this here is my first finished squad of Alpha Legion converts.

Did 3 different shades of blue layers with drybrushing plus a green layer. Then I did them up with a custom mixed wash.

http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx21/Faskinated/CSMSquad2-1.jpg

Alpha Legion Squad 2. Painted them the same way. But to seperate the squads I painted the right backpack ball silver instead of the center part.

http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx21/Faskinated/2010-08-08010547.jpg

http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx21/Faskinated/8710V1.jpg

Cypher and a Daemonhunters Inquisitor. The Inquisitor will be a radical who's leading what he thinks is a squad o Grey Knights

http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx21/Faskinated/CrimsonKnights2.jpg

And bam. Crimson Knights. No Grey Knight has ever fallen to chaos blah blah blah.

They're some obscure chaos warband with Iron Warriors helmets and looted newish armor parts and weapons.

There. I didn't break the fifth commandment of fluff.

So yeah. I'll have more stuff done in a few days.
