LoneSniperSG
Last night I set about working on my troops. Every pack was set up and I came to the realization that I don't have as many as I originally thought. With a max of six troops I can throw out five Grey Hunter squads at eight men each and one 12-man pack of Blood Claws. I recall hearing that eight Grey hunters per squad should be the bare minimum and that Blood Claws perform noticeably better when they are in a squad over 10. Is this correct? Or should I steal two Claws and boost two squads up to nine men? Either that, or if I throw down for another infantry squad box I can get my Greys up to full strength by adding two men to each squad. Karack Blackstone
How are they modeled? If with Bolters and Chainswords, get more GH's. BP And CCW? Go for more of the same, you can call them whatever you like really, so long as they aren't painted. Go for GH's more often than not, BC's are just for assaults now. Their price isn't great for what they do. Give them a WP and they hit hard. But that's about it on BC, plus they require the charge. GH's are more all around troops that you should have as many as you need. 10 man squads can get a second Special Weapon for free, so it's worth it if you can manage the models. I could try for it, but then I would be hacking up Power Armor Wolf Guard.. I s'pose that doesn't matter much. Whenever I use WG they have Terminator armor anyway. CainTheHunter
Don't tell me You are running six troops every game - even those 1750-2000 games? Because if You are not, maybe stacking to five troops would be enough, which would allow to easily fill the gaps among their ranks. LoneSniperSG
Last game was three packs of Greys, so no, I don't run six in every game. When it gets up to 2,000 then I run five packs. The Blood Claws only come out for certain situations. If it's totally not worth having them, then I'll re-model them into Grey Hunters. Stormbrow II
I recall hearing that eight Grey hunters per squad should be the bare minimum and that Blood Claws perform noticeably better when they are in a squad over 10. Is this correct? I'm not certain about the Blood Claws but the Hunters in my army are all 5 man with WG armed with lots of toys (PW, Mark, Standard, Melta) and they've performed consistently well. Since they are so small (and riding in a Rhino) people tend to dismiss them and don't bother shooting much at them. It also helps that there are more dangerous things in the list that need to be dealt with. They are more than capable of looking after themselves in combat aswell. LoneSniperSG
Hmm.. I would like to have a minimalized squad or two to cram into Razorbacks. I've only reecently learned how nasty it is to have a few Razorbacks on your side. They might be heavy guns on a marshmallow, but those heavy guns can be oh so valuable. jmurph
Unit size depends entirely on what you want them to do. Remember that 10 man GH squads get the free second special. For smaller squads (say riding in a RB) you can get a WG with combi-weapon to approximate. I like 10 man GH squads in rhinos and drop pods and let LFs and the WG (which are all used as pack leaders) bring the RBs. Small GHs with maxed upgrades are very vulnerable to casualties.
