Space Wolf Characters

Thanks that is what I needed to know. Its been years since I played SW, so theres a learning curve wth the new rules. This time I'm modeling Bran Redmaw's Great Company. By the way, are bolters and ccw considered two hand weapons as with the old codex. I see them modeled with bolters and ccw, and bolt pistols and ccw. Just wondering if the +1 for two hand weapons comes into play here. I'm betting not though as I see no referance to it. Thanks again, Matt D.

The only offical honour guard is the wolf guard, and even then the Wolves are pretty flexable with how they dot them out. Often spreading them out to lead by example, and wolf lords are the kind of fellows who would intermingle with their troops anyways to maximise bloodshed/command effectiveness.

That being said, don't get much better then a reinue of Grey Hunters with Wolf Banner and Guard, the rerolls effectively make them effectively better Terminators when it comes to armour saves and makes the wolf lord completely ignore lesser attacks when encased in runic armour. Pretty much a improvised honour guard to me.

Though lately I've been inspired to think of a Land Raider redeemer/crusaider full of power weapon weilding Guard with Hammerlord. Probably slice through pretty much anything on a good charge with a tank barrage first. Though not sure whether to spend 5 points more to make them all termies.

Grey Hunters have a bolter, a bolt pistol AND a CCW (see the troops section, p. 89). That means they can use their bolters AND receive a +1A bonus in close combat.

I thought you could not fire rapid fire weapons and assault. they can fire bolters and not assault or bolt pistols and assault.

But i could be wrong

You'd be right, if you fire your Bolter they cannot assault. However our common tactic is rushing up to rapid fire range, unloading as much pain as possible and counter-attacking the foe who thinks smacking us is a good idea.

I love doing that, Wolf Guard Battle Leader and a squad of Grey Hunters took out a Grey Knight Grand Master and his Terminators doing that ^_^. Of course, Counter-attack is rather unreliable without some form of Leadership boost in the squad I find.
