old git
I realise it's probably concerned with game balance but why, when thunderwolf cavalry are described as the upper echelons of the wolf guard and therefore probably next in line for wolf lord candidates, are they leadership 8 when their pack leading (and therefore slightly lesser) brothers are Ld9? It doesn't fit fluff wise for me. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/208136-thunderwolf-leadership/ Share on other sites
Fred Johnson the 3rd jr
Their normal Wolf Guard level of leadership is slightly negated by the big mutant wolf they are riding, which distracts everyone? Prot
I'm not sure I quite agree.... In my mind the Thunderwolf Cavalry are a nearly autonomous unit and not necessarily looking for Lordship.... Wolf Guard to me are more in that vein. Although I do agree their leadership is a bit too low for even an autonomous unit. Canis is a perfect example of my thinking though.... he is a brute of a man and he beats to his own drum to a large degree. Marshal Wilhelm
Back in the day, a certain cavalry unit used to lower the leadership of its rider. I forget what it was, but it is something GW has and is doing. Even with trained beasts, the rider has to pass his Ld and then the beast has to also. A policeman has to keep his bottle, but to no use if the horse bolts. Likewise, if the policeman breaks and his horse is happy to stat, little use is the horse's bravery. I think this is the thinking. Hence the -1 Ld. Yes, they didn't include a -1 to a WL when he buys one. You can think of it in a few ways, but I'd think of it as a fortunate oversight/blessing  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/208136-thunderwolf-leadership/#findComment-2483488 Share on other sites
Quillen
Yeah, as trained as it can be, when you have a fire fight the wolf might just decide it's time to go. And if your on it you go with it. So, it happens. It's not a trained marine but an animal and if the instincts tell it to bolt it will.
