2k Blood Claw 'Horde' list

I run a pretty small elite list, so was thinking about lists on the other end of the feasting table. I also dug out Viking: battle for Midgard and enjoyed a good ol norse charge.

Rough 2k as dont have dex handy:

Ragnar

A fitting leader for the young horde, and his howl will come in handy

2 Wolf Priests

Preferred enemy and fearless, handy for not running away.

Rune priest

Gives out cover saves and pops the odd transport, stops nasty things like lash.

6 packs of 15 blood claws each - foot slogging. (Thats 90 marines)

360 furious charge attacks with re-rolls - theoretically! Would throw in some fist/melta action too.

100pts ish to spend on upgrades or/and fen wolves as a screen unit.

It would have its problem builds like zippy eldar, and it would be a real wallet burn. But i think it would be fun, fluffy, and give most opponents that "oh crap' feeling.

Thoughts on a marine blood claw hoooorde!? Competitive?

I'm too lazy to fetch the dex right now, but the list looks good pointwise.

It should be a fun way to play for sure, as long as your opponent doesn't have a lot of pieplates and the like in his shooting turn. The look on the opponents face when you field them will be sth. to relish I guess :cuss .

But I fear it's not that competitive, as 5th Ed. is too often heavily mechanised :cuss . Tactics and deployment can fix some of that, good dice too, but if that's going to be enough I'm not sure.

But since it's us wolves we're talking about, let's hear some more opinions, my money would always be on us/you ^_^ .

I reckon if you can get to the enemies lines/units without losing too many units, then you can really cause some havoc with that list. Considering that, even if you get charged first, your still going to be able to get a considerable number of attacks with Counter-attack, perhaps even making the enemy less willing to charge first.

I think acceptable losses before you get them into contesting/Assaulting would one unit overall (between all advancing BC units), e.g, 15 Blood Claws maximum, after that, the enemy still has, 75 Blood Claws to worry about.

Well, I have decided to give it a go as my Blood Angel playing friend thinks i wont..and you know how a son of Russ never backs down from a challenge.

The acceptance is that some lists will really make it struggle, but the fact we are a chapter than can field that many numbers at 2k makes me want to do it. Project 90 is underway!...

I would say your in need of some long rangish firepower. A couple of Mult-melta landspeeders in exchange for a squad sounds a fair deal. Pops those Baals and other threats verious that could really ruin a hordes day and allows you to go to town on those upgrades, and 75's worth of marines is still pretty impressive. Probably a lot more targets then a typical army can hope to down! XD

I was thinking that too. A couple of flamestorm baals would be bad news, and end many pups sagas prematurely. I have speeders and long fangs so will try and juggle them in. Still unsure whether ragnar has to be in there, I can get a lot for his price tag. But then is so cool.

I would be sorely tempted to give this a go just to see if it could be done.

Rgnar + Ulrik + 2xWPs + 6x15 BCs = 1970 points.

Pretty bare bones, but it could be fun. I'm going to see if I have the models for it. It's would be funny if I could outnumber my friends tyranid army...

This is just an amusing idea. I think I shall also try my hand at it. Though I am going to go the way of a wolf lord, a bit cheaper than Ragnar. I will have to sit down with my codex and mash out a list, and as my usual opponent is Huron and his Corsairs, this could be fun!

could add in some pfists instead of power weapons.

I've started to pull the horde together, i'm at 60 claws!

I was thinking of a rough list like this:

Wolf Priest x 2

Rune Priest

Blood claws x15

Blood claws x15

Blood claws x15

Blood claws x15

Blood claws x15

Blood claws x15

Long fangs x 6 (5 MLs)

Long fangs x 6 (5 MLs)

105 plastic feet on the field! at 2k..marines :P

Few fists and melta (plus the free 2nds) spread around.

The HQs allow a few packs to actually fire some melta, while the wolf priests stop the front packs from running away. The rune priest rustles up some cover and pops the odd tank.

I really like many of the lists here, this is just what I have handy. Trying to make it footslogging to keep the nid players smiling and construct a tread-less list. My regular 2k is an elite fully mechanized build with thunder wolves and lord in tow. So this will be a nice change. Already players in my gaming group look uncomfortable at the prospect.

Let me know how the play testing goes from those of you who already have the marines to pull it off!
