ImperialReaper
Greetings. I intented to build al list containing Astorath the Grim in an units if 9 Death Company soldiers. Then I wanted to drop them down in a droppod near the enemy and in the turn after just charge them and eat them all up basically. But then I discovered this wont work since Astorath is Jump Infantry and cant enter a droppod or any other transport. The same goes for Lemarter. But wiith a DC involved I rally want to have some priest like unit in my list. Of cause I could pack my DC into a rhino and have a priest with jumppack follow them. But this way he is an easy target to get shot. And since not even Astorath has T5 or eternal warrior every unit which would do the job can be overkilled. So I fear a few shots of Lascannons could end my plan of rerolling failed hits for my Death Company. The next problem is with Captain Tycho an Mephiston: Those are the two HQ Choices which are normal infantry. But then both are no ICs and cant join units. So I guess they also would not be able to get into a rhino or droppod with my death company ? So I am pretty stuck here. I want as many units as possible do come down in Pods. Of cause they wont attack on the first turn - but IMO being shot 1 turn is much better than being shot 2 or 3 turns while on the way to the enemy (esp since I face a lot of gunlines). But I cant put any of my HQ choices in a transport with my unit and I really dont want them to be the only unit on the table in first turn and have them run over the whole table. I also dont want do keep them in reserve because they might also come down alone if I roll poorley - or in turn 5 where every else already got killed. Any suggestions? Morollan
If you want to deep strike rather than specifically using drop pods, you can use a Stormraven to Deep Strike and it can carry Jump Infantry, albeit not in quite the numbers that you want. Alternatively, if you're willing to lose Astorath/Lemartes, you can Deep Strike a big unit in a Land Raider. But if you want to use Jump Infantry special characters then I'm afraid Drop Pods just aren't an option.
JamesI
You could just use a Reclusiarch and put him in the drop pod.
Brother Yorei
you could do a preist without a jump pack and put him in the rhino or droppod with the dc
Drachnon
Putting priests with the DC? DC already have furious charge and feel no pain. Anyway if I'd use DC I'd field them with a normal chaplain. Lastly normal Tycho can join the DC only DC Tycho can't (yes it's very, very weird).
mysteriousmaskedmystery
just get a reclusiarch. that's the closest thing to a death star you are going to get in a drop pod. tycho works well with SG though, and if they are one of the best drop pod units you will find in C:BA. R0N1N
This is probably a silly question, but why would you want to drop the marines with droppods? why not put jumppacks on and DOA your junp marines? you'll scatter less, still take a turn of shooting, but can take you HQ's with? the squads that you do not want to have JP's on can drop with the pods. Corrent me if I'm wrong, but if you DOA an HQ like Astorath and then drop a squad of DC in a droppod right next to him, if the do not scatter and the DC gets out withing 2in from Astorath, then will they be joined? that can also be a way to get your HQ and squad to join straight after a drop. Mephiston is just death to anything... Just run him straight at the enemy. he will either soak up every low AP shot in their arsenal (and leave the rest of your army untouched, or he will get to the enemy still alive and kill everyting in sight. I use him in my army like that, and he is yet to fail me. most oppoments see him as such a hugh thread comming down the middle they forget my deads in their lines, my Baal's on their flanks and my LRC racing towards them... too many flanks to fight and where Mephiston digs in their ranks start to crumble.
