Black Templars squad + EC

This is my first squad that I have painted up. I have learned alot from this attempt and I like how they came out, though I think the next batch Ill go for more realistic highlighting. I thnk the way I chose to do it makes them look somewhat cartoonish. I also didnt quite understand about layering either, I think I rushed some areas. Also the camera drowned out the white tabards somewhat, they look much better in a quieter light setting. Let me know what you think and I hope you enjoy them. Last note, I am in Iraq at the moment and I dont have access to a drill for my barrels.

I like 'em, which is saying something since I don't like BTs as a general rule. I've always liked the two-tone helmet like that top pic (a by-product of a being an Eldar player, I suppose), and that Marine pulls it off nicely.

Awesome!!! I can just see the Emperor's Champion now: "You call that a knife? This is a knife" and then decapitating everyone in a 10m radius as he draws it from it's scabbard -_- . That thing is huge!!!

Nicely done, brother. Some very unique pattern choices, especially considering how limited our palette as BT generally is :P . It really brings out the individualized nature of the chapter. Very tightly controlled highlights on the black, too.

It's my attempt at some battle damage. I took gun metal, then washed it down with develen mud. I then outlined it with a very fine line of black. I then washed it with a very, very, very thinned down white wash, then hit the middle up with mithral. Looks prett good up close. IMO the average camera never does our minis justice.

 

My goal is to not use layer lines for highlighting. It looks sharp from a distance but under closer examination it doesnt look as good in my opinion. There was a post recently (here) where the guy was able to do some real nice battle damage that was simple. But Ill be back home sometime next month and I have some new ideas for a smoother highlighted black power armor. Once again thanks for the kind words.

Nice, they look very clean. I especially like the white helmet guy, but not really a fan of the yellow/black sword. I'd say white/black would be a nicer scheme.
