horrain
Hey, been a fan of WFB's beastmen for a pretty long time now, but I could never get into the whole fantasy mindset, so after a bit of fiddling I've found a conversion method to make beastmarines that I'm happy with. The conversion work basically consists of taking parts from the spacewolves infantry kit and mixing it with the beastmen kits. Imho as both kits have simular styling in the runes and skull it all kind of just works  Hope you like  Grey Hunters with attached Wolf Guard and Rune Priest http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4119/4876578802_0928bd7bdc_z.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4123/4876580486_d291416a5d_z.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4095/4875972711_a5261ca4f5_z.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4137/4876582238_037dbcae85_z.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4118/4876583206_90a43145b5_z.jpg Rhino http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4075/4875268614_c7fc62c7ee_z.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4096/4875269324_c55e6bebeb_z.jpg Dreadnought http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4118/4874662655_a64472fdc2_z.jpg
Midas
I like them! I would add more armor but the lack of it speaks to their chaotic transformation.
S. Bloodhowl
These rock with awesome sauce man!!! It all works surprisingly well together, although if I were you I would use the bestigor kit for legs or sculpt some armour on, they look a bit bare and unprotected to me. I cant wait to see what you do for the rest of the army, especially for Wulfen. Can I suggest Minotaur bits for Thunderwolf Cavalry count-as guys
horrain
Thanks for the comments :) Now that the lack of armour has been mentioned it's kind of obvious, originally I was hoping to keep them pretty light looking, but I do think the Rune Priest and Wolf Guard look better than the standard guys. When I was building everything my hope was that having a heavily armoured upper torso would give the impression of them being as armoured as normal space marines. Then use slightly more armour to make the more important troops look more impressive, for example the Rune Priest, guy on the rock, and the Wolf Guard, with a combi-weapon and powerfist, are both using the legs from the Bestigor kit. In their current state do you see me running into problems when I try and claim my 3+ saves? Also when you look at what I have painted so far is it obvious which model is the Rune Priest and which is the Wolf Guard? With this units Mark of the Wulfran I've used the Bestigor two handed axe, and applied far to much blood/gore, you can see him in the second photo with 3 grey hunters in, to the right of the standard bearer and melta-gunner. The idea being that he has been influenced by Khorne, and is slightly more eager to get stuck in  To make this more obvious I was going to paint the rim of the base a different colour, and possibly paint on a label as well. As for my plans for the rest of the army, I've gotten some of the new orc boar boyz, and am planning on using the boars as fenrisian wolves, mainly because like the beastmen they too have a cloven hooves :) For the Thunderwolf Cavalry I was planning on using the new Blood Crushers as a base, then trying to convert them so that they look like bigger meaner versions of the orc boar boyz. Though I did toy with the idea of using the new Minotaur models, the main thing preventing me from doing so is justifying how they could charge 12". Personally I think it would be helluva fun to try my hand at sculpting power armour onto those guys :D Also I think the new Doombull would make an AWESOME wolf lord with saga of the bear :D If the consensus is that I should try using the Minotaur models for my TWC then I am open to doing so, I just worry that people may complain. The other option is to use the Minotaurs are terminators which could be pretty awesome. And finally I'll be using the ungor kit for my Wolf Scouts, which should hopefully add more to the herd feeling I've been going for.
Forgefather Vulkan
These guys are weird but Fantastic! I'm tempted to try something similar, do you have a kit list/how you achieved this.... Great work! Forgefather
Captain Lucas Raziel
Great idea. i'd say they'd be Khorne probably, as beastmen are meant to be massive muscle machines....
horrain
These guys are weird but Fantastic! I'm tempted to try something similar, do you have a kit list/how you achieved this.... I need to build a 2nd squad of Grey Hunters and a unit of Long Fangs, I can take some photos of the build process if you like and pop a tutorial somewhere, tbh the conversion is pretty simple. EPK
In their current state do you see me running into problems when I try and claim my 3+ saves? Thick chaos infused hides coupled with power armor. 3+ works for me :P Very nice work! Did you think about doing a few with SM helmets but with their horns breaking out the top? Also, I'd say the Dread needs some more beasting up. Maybe he can have a horned skull hanging from him? Maybe actual minotaur type horns are bursting from his top? S. Bloodhowl
looking at them again the lackof armour doesn't actually seem too bad, your eye is drawn to their torso anyway. I think so long as you stick to using bestigor stuff for the HQ/wolf guard it should be easy to identify them. I may also steal this idea some time in the future... horrain
Hey guys, I'm glad the consensus on counting as power armour is a non-issue, and I do agree that keeping the Bestigor legs as HQ/Wolf Guard only is good idea. Thanks all for the kind words of encouragement, this evening I managed to finish off my dreadnoughts droppod, its 99% finished I just need to wait for the weather to improve so I can give it a blast of purity seal. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4096/4880704974_26b890a34f_z.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4096/4880096557_eeff15579b_z.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4081/4880708468_dcfcb388e1_z.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4117/4880709130_0450e818c3_z.jpg Next up should be second squad of Grey Hunters and a unit of Long Fangs, I'll write up a tutorial on the build process, as well as shopping list, though that will be posted on my blog, and then pasted into tutorials sub-section. Haunter!
Space Goat: Oat to Oat! I'm liking this idea. I can't wait for a Lone Goat, Thundergoat Cavalry, and Sky Goats.
Gillyfish
Reminds me of when you actually used to be able to take Beastmen with guns in a Chaos or Guard army. They look very nice and I really like the conversion. One thing I might suggest is making the armour look a little more worn, like it's seen centuries of service. That would really make them pop, in my opinion.
mitchell93
I like the play on the spacegoats insult will you be using the list for tournaments? I also agree that they could use a bit of chipping and dirtyness.
Chaptermaster Graymantle
A cool idea and very well executed! I would like to see them with a tad more mud and scratches on them, but the overall result is great! Well done!
Scathainn
These look awesome! Now all you have to do is take the Space Wolf codex and replace every instance of "wolf" with "goat" Goattooth necklace, Jaws of the World Goat, Lone Goat, Sky Goats, Thundergoats, Goat Lord, Goat Priests, Goat Guard.... horrain
Yeah, with the grey hunters I had finished painting them before I worked on the Dreadnought, during which I decided that I wanted to make everything look old and messed up, so time permitting I will be going back over them and add chips and dust. These guys are weird but Fantastic! I'm tempted to try something similar, do you have a kit list/how you achieved this.... With regard to Forgefarther Vulkan's request I have posted a tutorial over at http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=208477 hope that helps. I can't wait for a Lone Goat, Thundergoat Cavalry, and Sky Goats. Thundergoat Cavalry are on my todo list, I'll likely start up a WiP thread once I start working on them, as there is going to be a ton of conversion work needed ;) I'd not really planned on making a Lone Goat or Sky Goats, but since you mentioned them I'm having problems getting the idea of flying goats out of my head <_< I like the play on the spacegoats insult will you be using the list for tournaments? Hehe, it was intended to be more of a nod to their existence than an insult, but I can that it sounds more insulting than I intended. For this army I'm using my own if your interested you can see it over at http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=205889

Bogus
These look really great. I prefer them over all the other marine/beastmen conversions I have seen out there. And there have been many.
lucas
An expensive, but possible option for thunderwolves could be the beastmen razorgor as a mount for one of these guys. If you like the model that is...
Brother Mordeus
Awesome stuff but i would two horns sprouting from the from of the dread. Would look like the beast inside is too much to handle for the machine.
horrain
Hey, time for a bit of thread necromancy I think :D Been working on my wolf lord, and his retinue of 'fenrisian boarz' I'm not shore if I need to add the blood and gore to the lord, or if it will make it look over done :S http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4132/5034126635_94c91e5bd1.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4106/5034744992_3dded90256.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4150/5034745916_e0e1dd656e.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4131/5034747460_6b1d9b40ed.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4111/4969023486_5ed5b86241.jpg Hope you like :P
Garden Ninja
That's a pretty groovy concept, and I think it is working out rather well for you. Reminds me of some Fire Warriors that I converted with Beastmen (to create some new alien races that the Tau are constantly aquiring as they expand). The beastmen minis are pretty useful that way.
