Bulley's BA Army

Righto chaps, just returned to the game/hobby after a 10 year break. Previously really was a Wood Elf (during the Ravaging Horde days, never saw the army book for the WE's till the other day!) and SW/Eldar (and for some reason I have an unmade Dark Eldar army in a box .. no idea why) but I did give away all my SW/Eldar to a friend about 10 years ago.

But enough of that, I returned to the game, and yes, I got caught by the BA models, forgive me. SW's also had a lot of new stuff since i left, but I'd done a SW army before (despite using a diff colour scheme) and really did want to go down the marine route again. BA's also offer the most diverse painting experience of the SM codex's as standard (DC / Normal and Sang/Gold people, 3 styles, 1 army). Which is nice.

So I started back over the weekend, and just really needed to get my hand steady/eye's focused, so I did a few tester models before I jumped in and bought anything. Thesed are the results:

This really was just a play around with colours/painting robes:

This was a play around to see how badly off being able to do sang guard/the sang I was.

I was "ok" with the results, I am still messy as hell I feel, hand is a bit shaky and my eye's are a bit off still, and definatly laying it on thick with the paint.

Though through looking through this site, and realising that I didnt need to keep to the BA colour scheme to actually do a BA army, I started to play around, and got a colour scheme for the standard models I am quite happy with, so I'll be running with this for the normal marines:

Though I am at a bit of a loss what to do with the guns, can't quite decide.

I am sort of working backwards a little bit, I never like starting painting an army without having a very good idea of my army list, but being out of the game since 3rd edition release (I quit after Tau came out), I am quite rusty when it comes to that!.

But I'll be adding some other bits, hopefully each model see's a closer return to what I used to be able to paint, but I already feel a bit of maturity/patience has helped me a bit.

Been playing around with painting for the past week but really been itching to start on my jump army, but was reluctant while I couldnt get the results I wanted, heavy paint, bad blending/highlights and generally messy (by what was my standards) I was a little perplexed, then I remembered my old methods.

Just cranked out an old Grey Knight (which was absolutely caked in paint by some dude I got it off, so thought it was half decent as a tester). Figure I may as well paint it to be a filler in my army while I wait for my Lib to arrive, so went with the the scheme I plan on using; but still a test.

Excuse the camera shot, bad lighting paired with iPhone 4 camera doesnt make for the best mini shots. I'll start using my proper camera next time round.

The blending on the top panel.

One shoulder panel; keeps in theme with my army.

The bits of blue coming through are from where my "redo" base coat failed to remove them due to tired eyes, but part of the model are unsavable (literally blobs cover details) so I am not to worried. Hopefully my real lib gets here soon.
