Njal in a drop pod

I want to try this out because I think his Lord of the Tempest abilities can really be useful in the heart of the enemy lines.

I am thinking of teaming him up with a few terminators and dropping them in on the first turn into their lines.

Anyone tried this? Success? Also, ideas for tooling up the terminators with him?

As far as I am getting the Loganwing idea and lists, the main point is drop the shooty stuff and footslog Njal with 10 WG in TDA across the table. Also if You are dropping Njal, You are not getting any LoT abilities for that turn, since Njal is not on the table at the moment when You have to roll for his LoT effects.

I've played at least 30 games with Njal and i love him but he is a point sink and hes not as young as he once was. Point being he does not fight like a wolf. I kept trying to get him up to the front lines to use his ability to max advantage and I would just watch him die by turn 3 or 4. You need to have bigger threats on the table and up in your opponents grill to let him survive. Also keep him surrounded with whatever squad he's with because you do not want him in hth with anyone, let alone someone that may have a PW or worse a PF.

Now if you can do that he does become quite fun. My favorite game with him was against Eldar and on the very last turn they had shot the squad he was with to bits but he was still very much alive. I rolled a 5 on turn 7 of the game and he was about 24" from every unit the Eldar player had left which was, a walker, an avatar, the monstrous creature thing thats not the avatar, a squad of fire dragons and guardians. he might of had some more. anyway I moved Njal up 6". Shot with my LFs, ran Njal a lucky 6" directly at everything he had. Then proceed to laugh hysterically as the bomb went off literally and blew up everything around him in 12" range. It was beautiful. One lonely Njal standing amongst a mess of Eldar dead and destroyed. of course If there was a turn 8 Njal would have been dead next turn but it was fun to roll all those STR 8 hits on every unit he had.

Also if You are dropping Njal, You are not getting any LoT abilities for that turn, since Njal is not on the table at the moment when You have to roll for his LoT effects.

Thats only one turn. And if they can survive long enough for my skyclaws and rhinos full of GHs to get up there, mission accomplished. and if they're firepower is too superior, get them into assault.

If you want to pod him in I wouldn't try and drop him right on the enemy. He can use a lot of his abilities at 24 inches so maybe try to drop him behind the pod in a safe position and then figure your moves from there. Two other things I do is make one rhino unit a man short and just run him in runic armour and shoot from the hatch or attach him to longfangs for extra shooting with living lightning.

I haven't tried footslogging him with 10 wolfguard yet but if you stick to 33 pt stock termies its not a bad idea.

Personally I've had mixed results with him. Against Eldar, even LD10 is useless when you have to roll 3D6 for psychic tests although it is nice to dispel their trickster powers on 3+.

I would probably not drop him into the heart of the enemy on turn 1, but instead have him slog up the middle with 10 Standard termies with 2 ACs or CMLs (360 points). That would be fairly survivable, and if you want to get some 3++ saves, it's only 15 points for a Stormshield.

Very hard to kill unit and one which no one will want to have in their midst...
