Karsus
Hello all. I just had a game in my local gaming store, against SM. I used full footslogging Terminator army. Well, because of my lack of experience with my army and with this game, I 'lined up' my whole army horizontally, like 'l' shape. My units underwent a torrent of enemy fire, and many times the models in the middle of the line failed saves, lost coherrency, and I lost a lot of precious rounds because of that. Even when I assaulted target units, I weren't able to base-contact a lot of units thus lost quite a lot of attacks. No wonder I lose that game. What will be the best way to array my units when they are moving? (in other words, what will be the best shape/best position I can use to minimize movement lose due to coherrency and maximize base-contact, while minimizing the damage done by blast?) Please share your experiences with me, so a pup could do some nice revenge, and win! P.S. Umm, I cannot buy transports in near future, so please don't just reply "buy transports." I know that's good idea, but...not right now. SpaceWolf13C
honestly i dont worry about it too much. They are usually in a squarish circle and move forward. The more important thing is to make sure you power weapons and assault weapons are in the front so you can make the most out of your range and flame templates. Equally important is to keep your guys just a hair under 2" coherency. Keep them spread out but also make sure that each guy is in coherency with 2, not just 1, other models. Something like this * * * * * * * * * * OR * * * * * notice how in the second one each model is in coherency with at least 2 models and not as susceptible to blasts * * * * * It looks like a big blast could take me out but you gotta know what toys your opponent has. If he has a large blast that is AP3 or 2 in your case then hug cover. Make sure your opponent never has a direct line of fire to your unit with his AP 3, 2, or 1 stuff. muadib02
Do not rely on formations or shapes....place your models in such a manner as to maximize cover while also maximizing available firepower. Quite often this leads to blobby awkward formations, but you die much less. LPetersson
I would recommend trying to keep them in a sort of 'blob' while moving forwards assuming the enemy doesn't have any big blast AP1/2/3 weapons... Keep special weapons to the front and try to make sure that everyone has 2 or 3 squaddies within coherency range. The good thing here is that it's less painful to take casualties from the rear rather than the front. Alternatively, make some Long Fangs and whittle the enemy down while he has to get to you... Oh, and yeah, transports... :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/208357-footslogging-army-how-to-array-models-while-they-are-moving/#findComment-2486348 Share on other sites
DapperDave
One thing to remember, you can give some over your squads cover with other squads. I'm not saying cheese it my interlacing them, but there's nothing wrong with using one squad to screen 2 or more others. [Edit: Fenrisian wolves are great screening units] Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/208357-footslogging-army-how-to-array-models-while-they-are-moving/#findComment-2489719 Share on other sites
