Don't look at this Dark Angels thread

Hello all and welcome to my Dark Angels army WIP thread. I'm trying out a variety of techniques that are new to me on a number of different unit types. Comments and Criticism are very welcome.

 

Without further ado, the first model, a (light) (bad) conversion from one of the Masters of the Chapter set. You may notice on areas like the boot, hand, arm, and helmet, I attempted to scratch him up a little. This was done with a Dark Flesh initial mark, with Chaos Black put in the center and a thin (by my unsteady-hand standards) line of skull white below the gouge. I didn't use this method on the left arm though, that's just metallics.

Fluff for him will be up shortly, suffice it to say he has a lightning sword (Akir'Al) and a lava sword (Magna'then). Feel free to ask how I did anything or point out how terribly it was done =)

Nice job. I like the weathering on the helmet, its nicely done, even with shakey hands. And I like the job you did on both swords. I can't tell if the shading on the cape is super amazingly well done, or if its just lighting though :rolleyes:

The cloak was done fairly quickly, starting from a base of Liche Purple working up to the Hormagaunt Purple foundation paint. Basically, the Liche was applied, then a 50:50 mix, then pure Hormagaunt, then it was washed with Leviathan Purple, and drybrushed back up with Hormagaunt. So yeah, the lighting is what makes it look good.

Deathwing Terminator

 

After I get a look at what each unit type will look like, I'll finish the units one at a time. Something should be up sometime tomorrow =)

Alrighty, update time!

 

I'm currently moving house, so I've prepared a number of images to put up here in a staggered fashion to keep anyone who cares entertained.

My Regular/Ironclad AoBR dreadnought conversion will be up next, in its basecoated state. It'll be up in 24 hours or after 2 people have put up C+C =).

nice looking miniatures, although i'm not sure about the red sniper rifle, shouldn't this be more inline with his cloak?

Hendrik, I'm inclined to agree with you a bit on that one, and if I was painting it as a single mini I would do just that, but I'm trying to unify the army somewhat around a limited palate, and one part of that is the red of the gun casings - I will take a look at him next to some others when more are painted and re-evaluate though :)
