Avarris
I was in my LGS today and one of the guys who I regularly play (when I get a chance to go into the store) asked me why I don't use Blood Claws in my army, my response was that as I'm trying to go for a full deep striking army (except some bikers and whirlwinds) they would turn up and get shot at heavily and not do any damage in response as they wouldn't be able to shoot. He then pointed out that Blood Claws don't shoot but can charge instead which I pointed out that they couldn't as Drop Pod rules say that you are unable to assault out of pods which then had him saying "because they don't shoot as they are preparing to charge, they can charge" Is he right or am I right in thinking that they cant charge due to the drop pod? Macharim
You are correct. Tell him to read the rules on page 47 in the codex where it states clearly "A unit that Deep Strikes via Drop Pod may not assault in the turn it arrives". Couldn't be clearer. Karack Blackstone
I believe Drop Pods prevent any unit they Deep Strike onto the field from charging the turn they arrive. LRC's are the best option for them, and since you're going podding, they don't make much sense. Long Fangs sadly also don't, but then it is possible to adjust with them before sending them in. Freman Bloodglaive
The biggest problem for Blood Claws, is Grey Hunters. For the same cost you get a unit that can do everything, not just one thing. Avarris
Well at the moment I've got a problem, I've got 10 assault marines who are unmade. I am more tempted to make them as Grey Hunters rather than as Blood Claws or Skyclaws as it gives me a 3rd troop unit or I can make them as a Blood Claws and give them a Rhino which will be deployed with my Whirlwind and bikers in larger games Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/208432-drop-podding-blood-claws/#findComment-2487390 Share on other sites
Xeenos
Just give them bolt pistoles and CC weapons and they can be used as both Blood Claws or Grey Hunters depending what you want to do? Led by my Wolf Priest they have a commendable kill tally, although a poor survival rate. Still, that's how it goes in the Wolves, how else would we know they were fit to become Grey Hunters?
