Brother Pariah
These are just some miscellaneous notes I took from The Chapter's Due that didn't fit into any of our current Projects. Feel free to discuss any thoughts on them. Political: "The Ultramarines permitted the Inquisition to maintain a base [Talasa Prime] within Ultramar, but such an agreement was supposedly based on the premise that neither organisation would interefere with the other's business." (The Chapter's Due, p. 40) Governor Saul Gallow of Espandor was appointed by Lord Calgar himself. (The Chapter's Due, p. 91) Defence Auxilia: "...a Valyrie assault carrier and a Vulture gunship, both painted in the pale blue and silver of the Espandor Defence Auxilia." (The Chapter's Due, p. 87) "A company of [Calth] Defence Auxilia were closer than the Ultramarines, and a captain in a white cloak and bronze breastplate led a charge of blue-jacketed soldiers onto the ramp to meet the invaders." (The Chapter's Due, p. 210) Dispositions during The Chapter's Due: Bulk of the fleet based around Macragge, with elements scatted throughout Ultramar on patrol circuits and garrison duties. Likewise the warriors of the Ultramarines were primarily based on Macragge, though numerous squads were assigned other duties throughout the realm. Calgar suspects that events will unfold before the 3rd anf 7th Companies can reach them. (The Chapter's Due, p. 79) Calgar and the 1st to Talassar. 2nd to Espandor. Elements of the 5th and 6th with Cassius and Chronus to Quintarn. Uriel and the 4th to Calth. Antilochus, Telion and the 10th deployed in secret. The remaining Chapter's strength garrisoned Macragged under Captain Sinon. Captain Idaho
"The Ultramarines permitted the Inquisition to maintain a base [Talasa Prime] within Ultramar, but such an agreement was supposedly based on the premise that neither organisation would interefere with the other's business." (The Chapter's Due, p. 40) Yeah I found this to confirm what I thought myself regarding the sympiotic relationship between the Astartes dominion and other Imperial institutions. I liked the way the Inquisition were shown up by Calgar when the Ultramarines were told about the spying done by the Inquisition! I know this is not from the same novel, but there is a part in Courage and Honour which describes the 4th Company mustering prior to departure to Pavonis and it pretty much confirms that the strength of a Company is not limited to 100, describing much of the support there as the Company's support staff. The exact quote is as follows: "The Chaplain, Techmarines, Apothecaries, artificers, drivers and pilots, and ancillary company staff had gathered for the official Company Commencement." The key information here is artificers, drivers and pilots, plus ancillary staff, most certainly not included in the Company strength but a noticable prescence. Sorry, not trying to hijack the thread, but we have been looking for this information for ages. Brother Pariah
S'okay. This thread began as a mish-mash, a few extra topics aren't going to hurt anything. I'm finding the political stuff to be interesting. Perhaps one day I'll start an "Politics and Government of Ultramar" Project. Seahawk
I was considering adding in the fact that there are Inquisitorial spy drones orbiting most of Ultramar's planets (or just the one, can't remember right now) into the naval section. Thought it was quite interesting to say the least. Of course the Inquisition doesn't trust a "space marine empire" <_< like Ultramar, but over 10,000 years we still haven't given them reason to doubt or take action. Yogi
The inquistion doesn't trust its own shadow. They seem to me to to believe the "trust but verify" method. Good idea. I had to return my copy (I just borrowed it; I'll wait till the paperback to buy a copy) so I can't come up with page references myself.
