Relations with Eldar

I am just curious of what the general point of view of Space Wolves are of Eldar, are they easpically hated?

Just curious, since a friend of mine is considering running Eldar and it's mainly incase a team tourney occurs. Is it entirely unreasonable that they fight together during times of desprate need considering their unpredictable psychiers?

From all of the fluff it seems to me that the Eldar are only allies when they deem it worthwhile to their race/craftworld.

If they can get the Emperor's soldiers to take the brunt of an attack and spare Eldar lives, they will.

If they can misdirect an enemy force onto a lesser race, they will.

If it's convienient for them to ally with the Imperium vs. an overpowering foe (then turn on the Imperium after victory), they will.

For something like a team tourney there is no reason why you couldn't ally with Eldar, just don't turn your back on your friend when you both go to hold the trophy up. :D

I'm pretty sure in the new codex there is a short story of how the Eldar and SW fight sideby side to win a battle, but afterward, an error in translation between the Eldar and SW force results in a battle between the two. But yeah, the SW and Eldar would probably fight side by side, they even allied with them in the Eye of Terror campaign with Logan was in control of.

Codex page 19, 'An Alliance Broken'

So it didnt go well there, but there was a brief alliance. Eldar are a pretty selfish and aloof race being on the borderline of extinction. The farseers weave intricate paths so will ally with the imperium if at some point it will benefit them. Say he sees a craftworld destroyed by a tyranid fleet in the future, and a small contingent of wolves battling the tip of said tyranid host in the present. In that situation you would see the eldar join the fray, but out of totally selfish needs...not to fist bump and high five with some wolves when the bugs are toast. :D

There is a great quote somewhere, but its along the lines of an eldar is just as likely to stab you in the back as join you in a fight.

So, yes, you can fight along side your eldar friend and then have a totally fluffy fight afterwards. Most things can be explained away by the Eldar Farseers and the extremes they go to in order to avoid eldar doom.

It's very possible for a short term alliance to exist.

Beyond that answer I think things get a bit tricky. IMHO I would think the Wolves would have great difficulty 'trusting' (if I can use that word) an Eldar Farseer. The wiches would most likely be deemed untrustworthy, and not worth the alliance.

If eldar put up a true 'man of war' type... let's say a battle hardened Autarch, I could see it working. Even if for short term goals.

Wolves are very straight shooters though, and Eldar.... are not. The Wolves would not back down from even a -perceived- threat from the Eldar, and yet the Eldar are too arrogant to bow to any Wolves... so there would be substantial tension, but if properly mediated, the alliance could be deadly.... heck even successful!

A story about my leige, Egil Iron Wolf, Russ bless his metallic heart. =)

Aye, I could see them fully allying with ranger elements of them, since they are typically more wild then your average eldar. But any other allience seems a bit stunted at most.

But yeah, I can fully see them fighting a series of campains together, only to visously turn on eachother afterwards in a show of bloodshed. XD

I guess since it's during a tourney, it be fine. After all, chances are I will be fighting loyalists now and again anyways, which would be impossible to really explain anyways. Having a bunch of Eldar to join in the festivitys can't hurt. XD

They are foul xenos and enemies of both humanity and the Allfather.

We may fight alongside them against a greater enemy, but always keep a wary eye on where they're pointing those guns and when the greater enemy is gone there is still work to be done :)

Lol, yeah I suppose.

Seriously though- Eldar are definitely on the list of potential allies for most imperial forces- BT and certain Inquisition bits aside.

The length of those alliances is never long, but then again neither is the necessity.
