dirge caster
I have a problem. I love space wolves. The models are fantastic and the latest codex is amazing I'm sure you'll agree. It must be great to field an army consisting of lone wolves, super-effective long fangs, terminator wolf guards leading power armoured marines, squads of fenrisian wolves and all the other weird and wonderful combinations the codex allows. I really believe it's the most interesting space marine codex available. My problem is that I don't like the shadow grey / space wolves grey colour scheme. However, I can paint yellow very effectively so I'm asking you guys for help combining space wolves rules and models with a yellow colour scheme that actually makes sense in terms of the fluff. You may be wondering why I don't just collect imperial fists but I find them so boring and the vanilla codex does not interest me at all. I have considered a space wolves successor chapter in yellow armour called the 'golden wolves' or the 'emperor's wolves' but that just doesn't feel right. I have also considered building Krom Dragongaze's great company in yellow armour as their sigil is the sun wolf but I'm not sure about that either. Please can you give me some ideas on how I can solve this problem. I've been thinking on it for months and can't find a solution I'm happy with. I would greatly appreciate any help. Schertenleib
A wolf lord can take any color or sigil he wishes for his Great Company. So Yellow Wolves would be just fine. Just beware of the yellow snow type comments. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/208548-yellow-wolves/#findComment-2488606 Share on other sites
Blitzkreig
I'll use the old line: They are your toy soldiers, do with them whatever you want. I made mine a dark blue (come off looking a little like crimson fists but I like them), don't let anybody tell you how to paint them. Hell if you are worried about it, paint them yellow and say they are a lost company. Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
I have to agree with my other brothers on this subject. The base colors of my army are Codex Grey/Midnight Blue with some Blood Red, Dark Angel Green, and Sunburst yellow thrown into the mix. If you are handy with Yellows, then by all means go with it!! And by the way, I think both 'Golden Wolves' and 'Emperor's Wolves' sound like great names for a lost chapter!! -R_P_R Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/208548-yellow-wolves/#findComment-2488685 Share on other sites
Niiai
If you are pretty handy with the pencil you can paint them all yellow as though there is only a fairly yellow lioght source instead of painting them like all of them are litt up. Sort of like the covers of the priest manga: http://www.google.no/images?q=priest%20man...920&bih=859 The witchhunter is not wearing shades of yellow but the reduced palete makes it look sweet. Night Runner
Although I do agree with the comments of the wolf-members above, the important thing is that you enjoy your hobby. Having said that, I have to admit I find it hard to envision yellow Space Wolves. Post some pics when you finish one Dirge Caster, you might make me a believer :) . Blitzkreig
this screams campaign armour to me;) Grey Hunter: Hey, the Orks apparently fear yellow, what do we do? Niiai
Well it certanly explains why the blood angels swear to red armour. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/208548-yellow-wolves/#findComment-2489481 Share on other sites
Allerka
You can certainly play another Chapter using the SW rules as well. I do that for mine; instead of wolves, I have various kinds of reptiles/dragons, and my scheme is blue/green with white trim. Beef
If you can paint yellow well (which few people can) i say go for it, they are your toys like previous poster said. Octavulg
You can also do some kind of DIY Chapter that uses the Space Wolf rules but is not Wolf-derived. Lion-based, for example. dirge caster
Thank you so much for all the replies - I really appreciate it. There are some great ideas here. I like the idea of yellow campaign armour - perhaps my sun wolves could be on a vengeance crusade against a specific enemy. I also like the idea of basing the army on another animal such as lions instead of wolves - perhaps bears would be a good option too. Due to my severe lack of time at the moment it may take me a few weeks to do a test model and post a picture as I'm currently building one deathwatch ultramarine (ready for the deathwatch RPG) and one of the new pink horrors (I'm considering making enough to use in space hulk instead of genestealers). I'll keep you updated but please let me know if you have any more ideas. Thanks for all the help guys. SpaceWolf13C
that lion idea is really good i think. you could use the lions off of the high elf chariots for Fenrisian wolves. I wanted to do an army painted like Bengal tigers (kinda like the Bengals in the NFL) using the sabretooth models that come with the Ogres in Fantasy. That is until I realized how much they cost and how many I need to buy. But if you got the cash those lions would make for a pretty good theme. The Emperors Lions, Lions of the Emperor, idk.
