thundrchickn
Team Twin Linked Wintergreen Alpha Strike Ramrod of Doom (the name just kept getting longer after every game) consisted of myself and another guy playing traitor guard. He really spent some cash on his army as it's almost all forgeworld. his army was only basecoated as mine was 95% painted which would come to kick us in the junk later on. I guess your gonna have to read the whole thing to find out why. :D My 1000 points Librarian sword/shield sang priest power weapon sang priest base 2 assault squads (5 man) with power weapon/meltagun/razorback/las/TLplasmagun 1 baal pred heavy bolter hunter killer missle 2 predators las sponsons his 1k command squad flamer/chimera 2 veteran squads with 3 flamers each and shotguns 2vendettas 2 manticore missle launchers some background before I get into it first. My naked SP and libby ran with 1 of his veteran squads and my other SP with pw went with his other veteran squad. We designated them as the sacrificial lambs totie up units and with my independent characters, they would have a hell of a punch. They were also for rushing last minute for objectives. His vendettas would alpha strike tank hunt and manitcores would make our opponents cry. My side would lend a lot more tanke hunting. We had so many vehicles running around with las guns that vehicles stoon no chance. On withthe first game. Us VS. double orks This team was a pain. They had a full squad of lootas, 13 killa kans total, 2 deff dreads, a half trillion boys(actually 120 but it felt like more), and 2 looted wagons. There was also a shock attack gun and that dude that gives a cover save to everything around him. The first mission was total night fighting. Their were 5 total objectives evenly spread out and if you controlled 1 with a troop then anything within 18 inches of the objective was lit up. Our first round of gun line shooting wasn't awesome but it wasn't terrible considering the mission. My teammate managed to light up a few targets for my tanks to shoot and his manticores wrecked a whole bunch of stuff. It was a hard fought game. In the end their were less than 20 boys, 2 killer kans walking around fighting, and the lootas. We weren't able to target the lootas all game because they were hiding well out of any range to be spotted with a light. He cover generator guy was a jerk. Only half of our shooting was effective because of him. In the end we had only 2 or 3 tanks left and couldn't contest anymore of their objectives so we called the game with them winning. If my teammates vendetta would have survied we may have won but he didn't so we we were already losing and wouldn'y have been able to cross a lot of open ground to contest 1 of their objectives for a win. Very close but a loss. game 2 vs. chaos space marines they had 2 squads of berserkers on foot( ya I know that's kind of dumb), 2 squads of thousand sons with rhinos(jerk faced jerks of the day award goes to...), a lash sorc, a winged lash demon, 2 vindies, 1 predator with all las, and a defiler. This mission was bases with a spearhead deployment and only troops OUTSIDE a vehicle could claim/contest an objective. That meant no last minutes ram ANY tank onto their base. A troop would have to weather the storm. The "planet" also had some weird gravity problems. Each turn roll a dice: a 1 gives all foot sloggers slow and purposefull and jump troops have to take dangerous terrain tests, a 6 gives footsloggers fleet. Team Twin Linked alpha stirke Ramrod(that was our name at this point of the game...our original name was just team alpha strike when we started the tourney btw) managed to stealthe initiative. This would save my behind as my teammate went to the bathroom or something after deployment and I scout moved 1 of his vendettas and upon his return he was confused with what I did. I had done it to get a side armor angle on 1 of the vindies and after stealing the initiative that vendetta immobilised/stunned rendering it useless since it was at the top end of our opponents table edge. My teammate is veteran competition player and I felt kinda good when he said "I knew I brought you for a reason..couldn't remember what that reason was but..." We also managed to damage all the other non rhino tanks and destroy the defiler on the first turn. I know what your thinking...you messed up all their tanks and wiped them off the table now. You bet your mothes dentures we didn't. We started tank rushing to the far edge where their base was and the 2 squads of thousand sons and 1 squad of berserkers retreated to. We just could not put enough woulds on the thousand sons to get past that 4+ invul. The manticores weren't hitting for nothing and we had to resort to some assault type shenanigans to pull the 2 squads out of the trees and I used all my las plas shots to kill that squad of berserkers. We managed to run a squad of 3 marines onto their objectives and tie up the remainder of their defenders. This was almost as close a game as the first because of the special rules. We knew we had the game sort of after the alpha strike but we started doubting ourselves when the demon prince came flying out to try assaulting our transports and the thousand sons were just immovable objects. Win for us yay we don't suck. Game 3 was the hidden deployment with 5 objectives. The GW manager and his lackey held up a piece of carboard across the center line(lon ways) and we deployed at the same time not being able to see what the other was doing. The manager also placed all the objectives. Our opponens were the least prepared of all the teams today as they didn't know each other and both were semi new to 5th edition 40k. ! guy was basically a fantasy player that bought some nids. The other was a Chaos player that just returned to the game this weekend. We killed thier 1 tyranofex and hive tyrant by turn 2 and the rest of the nids ran off the board. The chaso player was starting some major havoc with his havocs. I lost a squad of marines in CC because my teammate can't make saves in a round of multi assault which I kept harping at him. This 1 was more which 1 of us could kill the most stuff kinda like gimli and legolas. I killed 3 big mostrous creatures and he killed 2 squads of marines. I felt bad for how it went for our opponent. I personally don't like playing lesser experienced/non competitive lists/noobs in a tourney. For a pick up game I'll screw around and take fluffier squad choices and run around doing dumb stuff but this was a tourney so we systematically decimated our opponent to ensure our progression in the tourney. Win us for 2-1 record we scored full gamesmanship points and there was a clear winner for first. If we had snuck out the win or draw on our first game we would have taken at least 2nd. The way it turned out there was a 3 way tie for second and we ended up taking 3rd because of painting. Second place had a beautifully painted Sisters/IG army. Everything was painted and definately not by novices. We took 3rd because my army was almost completely done. ONly things not painted were some tank treads on 1 tank and the plasma guns I did up for my razors because the army had to be wysiwyg. My teammate like I said was only basecoated white since this is a very new army for him. He's not a noob..he just bought most of the models and has been playing small games with his list. His painting is top notch and we might have given 2nd a run for their money if we were finished up. The third guy got a "sucks dude" from the judge because their army was only half painte and not very well. These were the orks players from our first game. Morale of the story is paint your armies. If you don't, you're missing out on half the hobby. Also beware the alpha strike power of BA and IG because if you don't, you probably already lost...unless you brought thousand sons...or theres night fighting all day long...stupid mission rules. thundrchickn
I don't have any [ics from the tourney because I focus on the playing not the bat rep. My main goal was to learn something from my teammate who is actually leading on the challenge board and stomped our GW manager whom everyone thought was unbeatableafter watching his games. As I play more I may keep periodic logs throughout per the jawaballs style. Here's my legion. only about a quarter of the entire army is painted and only half of that is painted well haha. The 1k for the tourney was the best of the best. COME GET SOME. http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/7086/ca...pictures057.jpg http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/4374/ca...pictures058.jpg http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/5986/ca...pictures069.jpg Just for clarification...my reclusiarch doesn't like anyone so don't de offended because he's mean muggin you.
