garfey
Well I finally succumbed to temptation and started on a Blood Angels force - It is going to be a themed all jump army plus a couple of extras - I started off with Astorath, and then a Drop Pod (One of the extras :D ), whilst doing some ebay Fu and getting 2 x DC boxes, 1 SG box, lemartes and the sanguinor for £60 ;) Then the misses bought me an ironclad (furioso!). Anyway so far I've Painted up Astorath, the DP, and I'm most of the way through the Ironclad - I tried salt masking for the first time on the drop pod which went ok but the hairspray really screws up the paint finish.. On the Ironclad I decided to do my own interpretation of the magna grapple, using the missle kit, a multimelta magazine, and some brass wire ;) I want to have them all attacking some kind of tyranid (this will be better when I get to the troops ;) - I went with hive fleet leviathan as they contrasted best with the BA colours (kraken is red too, so there was no distinction), fluff wise, dante sent 3 companies to assist the ultrasmurfs so I can use that excuse ;) I'd love to make a diaorama / army base as part of this project, but we'll see how time goes :) Sorry, I digest ( ;) ), on with the pics! Astorath first, and I'll post the rest in subsequent posts :) http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4074/4897460291_7e57dbd743.jpg Astorath 1 http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4116/4897460647_244ee9a416.jpg Astorath 2 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/208734-garfs-yabal-yet-another-blood-angels-log/ Share on other sites
Captain Mick
Well painted so far, only think that or the wings can use a(nother) highlight or give it a different colour because i think its a bit to much black. Rest its fine painted, good job :D . garfey
Thanks Cap'n! I see what you mean, my thought was he's the angel of death so all black wont be too bad - not sure what colour I could change the wings to, dark red maybe? Shadow Nugz
A dark red or a traditional grey-white would look great anmd contrast to the dark armor. garfey
And now for some of my Ironclad / Furioso - I wanted a dynamic pose for him and thought it would tie in nicely with my fighting nid's theme. These are all works in progress - just a mechrite red basecoat over the black primer. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4076/4887189255_625cf6c375.jpg Ironclad by garfey http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4119/4887193341_28bd128bfc.jpg Ironclad 3 by garfey And a close-up of the Magna Grapple. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4076/4887798064_ce16debef1.jpg Magna Grapple by garfey, on Flickr More WIP - next stage now - After several layers of blood red, and some basic painting of the hormagaunt. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4099/4897459385_45a4b910c4.jpg photo 3 by garfey, on Flickr http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4141/4897459671_a52d0b651b.jpg photo 1 by garfey, on Flickr http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4115/4898055192_486d5174e3.jpg photo 2 by garfey, on Flickr Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/208734-garfs-yabal-yet-another-blood-angels-log/#findComment-2491137 Share on other sites
garfey
Done some final highlights on the Dread now and glued him in position - just need to think about how to get some weathering on there or a bit more detail... http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4138/4922304799_96cc3d08e5.jpg Ironclad 3 by garfey, on Flickr And started work on my death company, which, as dicussed in a BA forum thread, will contain an ex sanguinary guard or two - strictly for the rule of cool as fluff-wise they wouldn't let them take the ancient relic into to the DC but hey ho...it's my army :jaw: Whats on my table at the moment... http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4077/4922891934_7a21e832b4.jpg Death co by garfey, on Flickr Close up of the SG and a couple of the others... http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4136/4922896406_a21ab844f5.jpg Death co 2 by garfey, on Flickr Eventually I will stop using my iPhone for pics...but for now, bear with me please :teehee: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/208734-garfs-yabal-yet-another-blood-angels-log/#findComment-2495478 Share on other sites
garfey
Well even though I haven't posted for a while the work on my Angels is coming along! I've now pretty much completed the Death Co, just got to attach them to their bases. I've also started work on Lemartes and the Sanguinor using a completely different technique to normal..washes only as basecoat! I'll post some pics soon! honest. Rekky
i like your take on astorath, the black armour looks good. But i agree with the previous comments about it being a bit too black. The rest is looking good. Keep up the good work. Look forward too seeing more. Brother-Captain Devlonir
Just a small question (seeing I soon need to find a good recipe for my BA as well :-P) I see many BA players use Red Gore as base red before layering blood red on it. Why did you choose for Mechrite Red? I am loving what it does for the Dread's color though! garfey
To be honest I only chose it as I thought it was the only option to get a good red over a black undercoat. It's a little dark for my liking, the Blood Red takes loads of layers to look good... that dread is slightly enhanced to make up for the poor camera so isn't a "true" representation of the red - I think i'll change my recipe for my regular troops if i'm honest. Sorry that wasn't much help for you! garfey
Well i finally got some pics using the good camera - so here are my Death Co squad - just got to paint the power weapons. and from above.. My Ex-Sanguinary Guard DC and friend. Lemartes - the black is all done using badab black wash over a grey primer undercoat. The Sanguinor - gryphonne sepia washes over the grey primer again. Got to work out how to highlight him now though, but don't want to ruin him Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/208734-garfs-yabal-yet-another-blood-angels-log/#findComment-2510195 Share on other sites
garfey
Did the Power Weapons last night, went for Purple as I wanted to be different to the standard Blue, but didn't want Red as it will look a bit much on the assault marines when I get around to them. Also, I started highlighting the Sanguinor, but I think I cocked him up - did Bleached Bone and then another thinned wash of Gryphonne Sepia.. not happy. garfey
Well after the debacle with the Sanguinor i'm leaving him alone for a bit so I started work on an old Librarian I had lying around (so old he was already primered in Smelly Primer, if you remember that stuff!). Regal Blue basecoat, badab black wash, regal blue again, then drybrush with royal blue and finally royal blue, ice blue, space wolves grey 1:1:1 - Force weapon painted as per the daemon prince weapon painting guide in WD. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4112/4997641127_9491e1f10d.jpg Libby WIP by garfey, on Flickr Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/208734-garfs-yabal-yet-another-blood-angels-log/#findComment-2514379 Share on other sites

garfey
Cheers Mick! Well I gave the libby a rest for the time being and started work on some actual troops - my first assault squad! I actually spent a bit of time working on the bases of them over the weekend and most are drilled and pinned into some decent dynamic positions. So I started painting the Squad SGT yesterday just because he looks the coolest IMHO. I've decided to give my RAS SGT's Sanguinary Guard wings to signify their status within the squad. Anyway I've posed this one on top of a dead carnifex's head that he's just killed by ramming his power sword through his eye (two-handed overhead downward stab stylee) and as he's jumping off again he's drawn his bolt pistol to take down some other imposing threat, hence the sword in a underhand grip. Brother-Captain Devlonir
I'm silently reading and to get ideas of how I'll paint my BA :-D I just created an album with my current models, got a lot to paint but not the heart to start it! garfey
Ah cheers BC Devlonir - the red just takes a bit of time. I did it on the SGT over a grey undercoat, but think i'll do a black one on the rest of them. Time for another update - the SGT is now 90% finished, really just the power weapon to do! I've prepped the next 2 models, so here is a preview of them too. RAS SGT Front http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4150/5021529036_ed1a9e7365.jpg IMAG0013 by garfey, on Flickr Side http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4124/5021526696_b7ccf3da92.jpg IMAG0014 by garfey, on Flickr And now the next 2, one is a standard assault marine, the other is a flamer toting dealer of death. I've cut the chainsword arm at the elbow to reposition it as I don't really like the pose across the body. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4127/5021527418_753fcf5a39.jpg IMAG0015 by garfey, on Flickr And a slight side on view http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4109/5021528452_e1055f7c66.jpg IMAG0016 by garfey, on Flickr Enjoy.
