Lord_Hail
I had an idea of using sternguard in my DA, but for the sake of mixing it up i want them all to have served in deathwatch. I was wondering if they would look like normal DA or would/could they have markings still from deathwatch? I know like nothing on Deathwatch outside of whatever was in the ultrasmurf omnibus. Any help or sugestions would be greatly aprciated. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/208761-deathwatch-and-da/ Share on other sites
Captain Juan Juarez
As I recall, Deathwatch Veterans keep their Deathwatch pauldron in honour of their service. I would say though that the Dark Angels are one of the Chapters less likely to serve, in the opinion of many. Brother Tyler
Under the 3rd edition Chapter Approved rules for the Deathwatch, you would indicate a veteran of the Deathwatch (i.e., one that had returned to his parent Chapter) by retaining the Deathwatch shoulder pad. Presumably, this would be worn on the right shoulder in place of the normal squad shoulder pad, but the information isn't clear. Since Warriors of Ultramar was the first we heard of Ventris being a veteran of the Deathwatch, we can infer that not all veterans of the Deathwatch retain the shoulder pad. Practically speaking, the only reason to have had the Deathwatch shoulder pad at that time was so that the model could take advantage of the special ammunition. Since this isn't a requirement now, you could forego Deathwatch veteran indicators altogether. What I've done on two of my models was indicate the models' status as veterans of the Deathwatch by painting the Deathwatch icon onto the kneepad/greave (two different minis, two different methods). So the short answer to your question is that you may include indicators of service in the Deathwatch, or you may choose not to. Different models might have the indicators while others might not. It's totally up to you. At this point I'm wondering if you meant Company Veterans or Deathwatch Terminators for your squad since there are no Sternguard in the Dark Angels. As for the Dark Angels and their service in the Deathwatch, I think that the Deathwatch game will clear up any confusion and provide an official stance devoid of players' opinions. Lord_Hail
Thanks for that info. The place i play is real lenint on older codexs using new stuff, that and at min almost everyone uses something from forgeworld. (we are allowed to use ia 2 update rules in place of ones in the codex, hence lots of valkries with ]I[.) chaplain mortis
if your gaming group is pretty lenient, then just use a sternguard squad in place of the company vets. (hardly un-balancing the game) give them all the deathwatch bolters and shoulders pads and its pretty clear for everyone to see what they are.
