I myself have not read the Horus Heresy books, I got into the Hobby thanks to Dawn of War, and the noble game of croquet (a long story). We have an excellent Horus Heresy sub-forum as I'm sure you know, and if you have questions about the Hobby or Space Marines, I am sure any of our brothers would be glad to help. I got into it from DoW too, but I wanted to learn more so I went on Lexicanum and saw the HH books and thought they looked like fun.
