Quest for a Demon

Recommended Posts

Well, I guess I should clarify. It's the quest for a mini-demon.

Every year the local gw does mini-gamesday and mini-demons. Since I can't go to Baltimore this year, I'll be participating the Demons at the store. Unfortunately, my large model isn't PA related so I won't be showing it, but I can show my single miniature.

A converted Space Hulk Terminator.

Pictures are a bit crap, but they'll do for now. I just wanted some opinions on the model itself. It's just going to be a quick job to test my abilities to paint to a high standard in a short time. I plan to have him finished 100% by Thursday so I can spend Friday on touch ups on both entries.

Well enjoy.

I think the model looks great. I cant see from this distance but did you NMM the gold? If you did i think it was really well pulled off. The over all convertion looks great as well but what is the white thing on his left arm? Finally what do you think of Privateer paints in comparison to GW.

Well I shall answer the questions on the order that the come! :)

Unfortunately I opted for RMM instead this time. With the time crunch till Saturday I decided not to risk it, as I don't have a 100% set recipe for my NMM gold. But I do paint my RMM as if their NMM using flat colours to shade and add depth to the metallic paint. But I like that you thought it was nmm :)

The white piece on the PF, is a little sensor piece that was on the original model, I was trying to use as much of the Space Hulk model as possible and left it in place. I was thinking about adding source lighting to it, but I think it may distract from the focal area which will be the face.

I love P3 paints, in comparison to GW though I support both companies equally. They just have several different shades that GW doesn't offer. I also avidly use Reaper Master Series and Vallejo Model and Air lines.

P3 really holds their consistency over long periods of time, as do the vallejo and reaper lines. I have issues with GW drying out if I don't use them for a year or longer, whereas I have had all my Reaper paints for well on 2 years and have only replaced one bottle. Conveniently I visited Reaper HQ today. Good times. :)

Hope that answered your questions. I'm actually really exhausted right now, so if you need anything else, just ask! :)

But I do have an update pic. Front and back!

And I see the spot on the back of the leg. :( I hate exhaustion and camera's picking up mistakes.

Enjoy!

I love the red of the termy's armour, but I have one crit, and that's the gems and seals. As it stands, they just blend into the armour and are hard to see, whereas if you had used green or maybe even blue on the gems they'd stand out nicely, and contrast everything else on the model. Just my 2cents

Also - what's teh story with the UM shoulder pad? I'd use a BA or an enemy pad - e.g. Black Legion, as UM pad looks a little strange IMHO. I also agree with teh gems - they don't stand out enough from teh armour - I'd have gone deep purple, even inky black/purple as the base colour, and highlighted up to pink from there, and the seals could do with a wash of gryphonne sepia on teh seal elemt to add some definition and grit..

Thanks guys. The seals and gems are a lot brighter irl. They're all gloss coated under the dullcoat so they still shine more, so when I take the photo with my phone it doesn't show the full depth of colour. Just the lightest points and the reflection from the gloss.

The seals are all washed with mud. It's just one of those things that doesn't show up in my pictures. :)

As for the pad: It really came down to personal choice. I didn't want to do red again, or black. I didn't really have anything in mind so I grabbed a random P3 base off my desk and it just happened to be blue. So from there the UM pad was decided. :)

I only have around 20 or so colours, and most are just lighter versions of another.
