Dawn of War II: Retribution

I quite liked it, all the campaings have the same missions, sure, but since I play the game most because of the interactions between the characters, I have to say it was most pleasant.

I mean, little things like the conversation between the heroes, and theirs reactions, sure, it was not A LOT, like DoW 2 and Chaos Rising, but it was more than enough to keep me playing.

I specially enjoyed Sgt. Merrick, of the Imperial Guard, he and the Lord General were quite fun to watch. Not only that, but the the voice acting was top notch.

The game might seen a little short, compared to the massiviness of other games, but be sure, 6 different types of armies might make you happy.

It also helps that people who doesn't like playing Multiplayer have the chance of playing theirs favorite races.

One thing to ponder, Dark Crusade had the same missions to every race, but one(of theirs base), and it lacked much story and character interaction, yet it still is one incredbily fun game to play.

Don't let what some people say about the game being short, because it is not. Play all the races, and enjoy the party banter, that will make 30 bucks worth it at least 25 hours of gameplay.

The game is fun to play, but once you've played one campaign you might as well do something else for a couple of weeks. I'll play the campaigns for every race but then never play it again, unlike the rest of the DOW series, which I periodically come back to.
Does it have much replay value?
If you are the type of person who likes to see the same maps for all races, run from the same 'boss' time and time again, then finally finish the last mission only to watch a slightly altered ending (which can be viewed locally if you navigate to the movie file directory) - then yes it does have replay value.

To celebrate the launch of Retribution we've set up a 1v1 knockout tournament on Tuesday 15th March for a chance to win a copy of Homefront for the PC. ;)

The tournament is open to UK players only and there are up to 32 places available. All the details on how to sign up are over here.

Personally I've found the game much too easy even on the Hard (not tried Very Hard yet) difficulty setting; don't know if it's because of talent, bad design, or the fact that the collector edition wargear is too overpowered (seriously, Autarch weapon "Confuse on hit", every single hit, with an AoE special attack randomly?!). Rather disappointed they switched from calling the difficulties more appropriate terms (Primarch difficulty ftw)

Tyranid campaign is basically swarm with little in the way of tactics (wargear item: automatically reinforce all units in range of the tyrant, passive effect over time.)

Eldar Campaign is basically use the Ranger, pulse blast away (say hello to the talent where it doesn't have a cooldown for me, we're good friends) and "build three Wraithlord you win" (especially taking into account my comment about the Autarch weapon.. )

Chaos Campaign I've not played much, but the collector's edition wargear basically makes your Lord capable of killing most non-boss enemies singlehandedly (ok, doublehandedly since it's a 2h weapon..) even when outnumbered severely (self-centred AoE attack), and this makes him a slow-moving meteor of doom.

On the plus side though, graphics and sound (when both don't stutter..) are brilliant, the storyline is

...alright (apart from several fluff inconsistancies *cough*KHORNE PSYKER*cough*)

and that opening video is awesome. If they'd balanced the wargear (or made collector edition wargear scale with character level) the collector edition would've been more challenging, but oh well, live and learn for DoWIII

The Collector Edition wargear really does make the choose your heroes wargear abit of a joke, there really isn't any need to choose the wargear option when completing a mission.

I like it as I can be all the races available, that though is its major downfall as it is the same missions/story/events/enemies on every play through except for the interactions between heroes.

Favourite line I have heard so far is from the Orks "I'm alive and your dead, I WIN!!"

The problem I've encountered with doing this is the fact that you can't hear any dialogue. That's bugged me ever since Chaos Rising.

DLC for Retribution has just been announced as the Dark Angels. It will be available to download on the 6th April and fans will be able to purchase a custom Dark Angels Space Marine chapter for use in the multiplayer game.

For all the details on what the DLC will include and a link to screenshots check them out here.

Gimme a well made and very Romany Ultramarines pack and I'll buy it.

But Dark Angels?

Way to make the least interesting of the "Big 5" Chapters first...

Marines in dresses and silly Native American headgear...yay... (because apparently Chaos Marines HAVE TO wear bunny ears....even the closeted ones who try to hide behind dresses)

it really depends on perspective as to which chapter you think are the least interesting; personally i think the ultramarines are boring and the space wolves unbearably stupid, but I find the dark angels to be pretty cool and interesting. the point stands however, that 7.50 is a lot to pay for such a minor piece of dlc, especially considering details such as the unit portraits aren't updated.

Sorry, but a background that can be fit into the sentence "we're jerks who wear dresses and everything else is a secret" really just doesn't compare to several thousand pages worth of fluff about space Romans.

Aside from Thunderwolf Cavalry and the generally ridiculous anachronism* that Space Marines would ever fight like vikings, I can't imagine what problem you could have with Space Wolves.

*if you've got a problem with ridiculous anachronisms, you're playing the wrong game.

I wish some Blood Angels and Space Wolves look a likes.

Ultra would be kinda cool too, but I am kinda used to them been regular Marines.

Ooooh, Black Templars, that would be awesome. Maybe the Emperor's Champion(the HQ XD), as Force Commander.
