The tip of the Spear - Haraldur Silverhammer's Great Company

Thought I would start a dedicated thread for my this project I'm going to embark upon, it's quite large, and will take a long time to complete, but it will be worthwhile when it's eventually completed.

The Goal: To Build and Paint a Great Company effectively from Scratch.

This Great Companies Roster:

90 Blood Claws. (6 Packs of 15)

60 Grey Hunters (6 Packs of 10)

20 Long Fangs (4 Packs of 5)

20 Wolf Guard (4 Packs of 5) Also being responsible for acting as Bodyguards to the Wolf Lord.

Each Squad will be mechanised. With either a Razorback, Rhino or Land Raider of some variety depending on the squad's size.

In addition to this, I'm going to build and paint a Battle fleet Gothic representation of my Great Company built around:

1 Strike Cruiser

4 Escorts

In addition to the above objectives, I'm also going to write up fluff for my Great Company. With this much stuff to do, I've got plenty of things to write up :D

For Starters:

Work in progress Rhino

More to come!

I'm keeping the badge fairly simple, it's going to be the symbol that Ragnar uses for his Company, since the same badges can be used by many different Wolf Lord's over the years, and I don't have creative skills to try and make my own. :)

Thats a lot of blood claws, I thought a great company generally had more Grey hunters, because usially they were more perniment and less likely to be randomly killed. XD

Sounds like quite the epic quest though! I look forwards to seeing the company grow. ^^

Progress update! All done on the first Rhino apart from the Tank-tracks and Transfers, and perhaps the odd touchup on the highlights, but apart from that, I'm happy at how it looks so far. :P

Thank you for the appraisal on the Rhino. I'm really happy at how it's come out. Now I just need to repeat it for....quite a lot more vehicles! :D

In the mean time, I started work on a One-off drop pod for the Force. I won't actually be using Drop-Pods as part of it's doctrine, however I've always loved the Plastic kit and I wanted to paint one.

Snippit: A WIP shot of a Grey Hunter with Flamer. Still got a bit of work to do on him such as highlights and cleaning up of highlights on already highlighted areas. This Son of Russ will be used as a example for me to follow for the rest of my force.

More to come!

Right now I'm using a basecoat of Ivander Darksun for the yellows. However, I'm about to change to Vallejo Gold Yellow for my yellow tone instead of Citadel Yellows, so that was more of a testing tone to see how it ended up and it seems the Citadel doesnt provide the same tone as the VGC.

The Grey tone I'm using is Vallejo Game Colour 'Sombre Grey'. One coat of this is enough since it coats very well and has plenty of pigment.

I tested several other tones of Grey such as Fenris Grey, Shadow Grey etc and found they were noticeably darker, however this was perfect in providing a great balance of grey and blue.

A shot of another member of his pack. This one is a bit earlier into the process however you can better see some of the features.

The light and quality was a bit odd in this image. I had been messing about with the exposure levels on my Digital Camera and the image quality, but none the less.

I must upload some shots of the Drop Pod tomorrow I think.

Got a bit bored last night, so I cracked open the Devastator box, another box of Wolf Pack and combined to make some Long Fangs. It's quite good kit I found!. The last time I built Long Fangs was the metal 3rd Edition miniatures which were a pain to work with. These in comparison are a godsend!

They look cool! Gamewise though, I dont know how effective they will be. But, still, they look cool!

The good thing is, I'll be building enough Long Fangs to have a pool allowing me to make any combination I like. Heavy Bolters and Missile Launchers for Anti-Infantry, and Multi-Meltas and Lascannons for Tank hunting. And plasma cannons for doing a bit off both however hoping they don't kill themselves!
