The tip of the Spear - Haraldur Silverhammer's Great Company

Work has commenced on the first Long Fang pack's Leader. It's always frustrating to zoom into a model like that and get a high-res shot of all the little errors to fix ;)

Great work Sharpsilver!! I have been enjoying watching your company come together!!

...looks like your cat is just about a finicky as mine!!

When I painted my power sword, I paint the indented parts what ever color I wanted them first, and then I covered the sword with the metallic color secondly.

Thank you for the kind words <_<

I love the job you did on that sword. Just crazy awesome. How did you get the inlay painted that blue?

The inlay was firstly coated with VGC 'Magic Blue' then a tad highlight of Citadel 'Ice Blue'. I think I'm going to add some more blue to the area surrounding the inlay to simulate glowing perhaps.

He's adorable, originally, we were going to purchase a kitten since we sadly had one of our 4 (at the time) cats put down due to kidney health issues, so we wanted to replace her with a female kitten. Fate as it went caused us to get a pair of kittens, a brother and a sister who lost their mother (who was run over sadly) and they were very much premature in the sense that they lost their mother when she would have given them all the protection and nursing milk etc. So we had to be extra careful. Olli is the one you see in the picture, Taz is a bit more timid and smaller.

Now he's fully grown though he loves to disrupt my sleeping in the morning with his constant need to rub his head against my face :D

Really nice painting style, crisp and tidy.Very nice indeed.

How exactly did you paint your wolves? Black undercoat? Never used Vallejo paints myself but that blue grey looks pretty good. I usually mix up a 50/50 fenris and space wolf grey, but this can cause me inconsistances accross an army that ive been painting for years. I used to have probs with the yellow pads, as I would put a layer of white over my black undercoat, and then put yellow on top but the white needs thin coats or it looked lumpy. I now use the foundation Yellow and this saves time and eliminates the risk of the lumpy look.

I would also use more grey hunters than blood claws , The grey hunter is one of the best value troops in the whole game.

Look forward to seeing more of your models. Nice one!

Thanks for the comments ;)

The method is:

Black Undercoat. (Currently Chaos Black but soon to be Halfords Black matte primer)

Paint all Armour areas Sombre Grey. Making sure to leave black between armour recess.

Wash any areas that are difficult to leave black recesses with Badab Black. Clean up the areas surrounding the washed areas, since Badab black stains the sombre grey, and needs to be cleaned up.

Paint any metallic areas Gunmetal Metal and highlighted with a lighter Silver.

Gold is a mix of Vallejo Metallic tones. (Both GW and Vallejo do comparable Metallic pots)

The only GW 'paint' I currently use is the Yellow Foundation paint because it's too excellent.

Your painting looks pretty awesome, nice and crisp.

The only thing I would suggest from experience is that you find a complementary colour and work it into your scheme, especially for the tanks. My first space wolf army was huge (10,000pts of Ragnar's company, 4th ed) and I found that a massive army of grey can look a bit dull.

For my new great company (Bjorn Stormwolf's) I have incorporated a lot of rich red/crimson into the army and it looks great (even if I do say so myself) and especially breaks up the large flat areas of grey on the tanks.

Cheers for the advice. ;)

I'm currently debating in my head whether to bite the Bullet and purchase the Forgeworld Space Wolves MKIV Dreadnought. It just looks so fantastic and would be the perfect centrepiece for my Great Company.

The first and only ever thing I ever bought from FW was the Iron Warriors Dreadnought (when I was experimenting! :D) . I made a massive number of mistakes during the build process and painting.

1. I didn't wash of the Mould release Agent with Warm soapy Water.

2. At first I tried using Plastic Glue which obviously failed because it's resin.

3. The amount of times I re bonded the joins with Superglue meant eventually bits broke off and wouldn't rejoin back.

4. I didn't pin. Which meant it was very fragile.

5. I stupidly soaked the miniature in Nail varnish remover when things were going pear shaped :) . Which was bad because it's resin and it melted all the detail of the feet.

6. When I was having to store my miniatures in my garage, It was dropped by a member of my family and one of the legs snapped off the axle of the lower-torso

So as you can see, I've learnt many things about my first and only ever Forge World experience. I don't plan on making the same mistakes! ;) The thing is so battered I think I will turn him into scenery or something one day.

If I go ahead. I plan to buy it along with the Resin scenic Base (with pre-moulded MKIV Feet and other excellent detail) and obviously, the two arms. I have not decided yet. I was thinking Multi-Melta and CCW, or perhaps going Rambo with DCCW for some potent killing power. Decisions!

What do you guys reckon on the Space Wolves MKIV, Yay or Nay?

So I was browsing the FW website and my finger 'accidentally' stumbled upon the Pay Now button and it so happened I 'accidentally' imputed my card details!

MK IV DREADNOUGHT ASSAULT DRILL (LEFT ARM)

SPACE WOLVES VENERABLE DREADNOUGHT

MK IV DREADNOUGHT PLASMA CANNON (RIGHT ARM)

SPACE MARINE MKIV DREADNOUGHT BASE

Decided to go with the drill. The claw is nice, however the drill looks even more potent for destroying things.

The pinning process... It has begun!

Since it's my first time Pinning, I didn't go overboard with the depth of the pins since I didn't want to distort the surface of the resin. Although it's deep enough I'm sure. But you know what they say... Resin dust... don't breath this!

The first painted area will be the base. I'll then work my way upwards.

Update of some sort:

Progress has been slow lately.

Built 9 Blood Claws and a Wolf guard in Power armour today. Plan to build another 4 or so tomorrow.

Also browsed Ebay a bit earlier, decided to buy the 3rd Edition and 2nd Edition Space Wolves codex. (I previously owned a 3rd edition Space Wolves codex) however that was lost a while back. At some point in the distant future it'll be very difficult to find them, so decided to bag them quickly to save myself the headache in the future when I want to get them for source material. They cost me together £15 or so, but the feeling that I have them is quite nice. They are in good condition as well.

Update on the Long Fangs. Now using the Nikon D50 again so the pics should be better overall from now on.

The Squad Leader has the older Highlighting. The Wolves armed with the Heavy Weapons.

You can see the contrast between the old highlighting method I used and the new softer approach. I think it looks better, what do you guys think?

Little sneak peak on a WIP Rune Priest.

I loved the idea of Runes embedded in armour however the Out-of-date Terminator Rune Priest on the site didn't cry to me and neither did the 13th Co Rune Priest blister, so I decided to convert my own from a few bits from the 40k Chaos Terminator Lord box and space wolves bitz. The kneeling down pose legs are from the Devastator box set.
