Next unit choice

Recommended Posts

Okay i mainly got into 40k because of two things 1: i love painting mini's and 2 the story line.

I am interested in the game and i want to begin playing.

I need help on what units i should purchase next.

My units include so far 2 tactical squads and a ven. dread.

Based on your experience or personal prefferance based on the up clod and personal style of the BA what are your reccomendations for units i should get?

You need an HQ choice. A Librarian is prob your best bet, as Blood Angels Captains are nothing special and Chaplains tend to shine in certain list types. The Librarian will give you most flexibility and some psychic defence.

No Blood Angels army is complete without an Assault Squad or two. You should probably be looking at least one of these as a core Troops choice. It is entirely up to you whether you give them Jump Packs (to benefit from the Descent of Angels rule) or mount them in a discount transport. I find that the best way to build a 10-man Blood Angels Assault squad is to combine the pieces from one Death Company and one Assault set.

The Baal Predator is superb, and a fluffy Blood Angels-specific piece. I won't try to advise you regarding its weapon fit, as it really is down to personal preference and I know that my own preference is in the minority here on the boards.

A Sanguinary Priest is a great idea. He is an Elites choice who massively increases the close combat capabilities and durability of units close to him, and for just 50 points! You will hardly ever see a Blood Angels army without at least one Priest, and most armies will have 2-3.

Get something to crack vehicles open. Every army needs a range of weapons capable of busting vehicles in the current mech-heavy meta. You could add meltaguns and lascannons to your Tactical or Assault squads, or take new units toting these weapons e.g. Land Speeders, Attack Bikes or Predators.

You should also note that Blood Angels do not field Venerable Dreadnoughts. Your model need not go to waste though, you will just need to field it as a regular Dread, or acquire a right arm with a close combat weapon/frag cannon conversion so that you can use it as a Furioso Dread. My Furioso Dreadnought started out as a Venerable Dread, to which I have added an unwanted close combat arm from a friend's Ironclad Dreadnought.
