Mercinaria's Log of paintery and convertery

Hey there B&C

After many years of pottering around with various armies, i have made a startling discovery...I actually have enough models for a viable army. Considering the random and varied mix of them, i have decided to make a chaos force similar in nature to the Red Corsairs.

The basic concept is that of a renegade mercenary force comprised partly of chaos marines, and partly of normal space marines with things in the paintjob/minor conversions to make them more chaosy.

The army will have a few groups in it, have "leaders" [not necessarily HQ choices] for each one, and will have markings which identify where they're from alongside the unifying paint scheme.

And now for pictures of what i have, please bear in mind that these are all from abortive attempts at making an army, so they're very mismatched, and some are partially painted. The ones that are painted do NOT represent what i'm planning for the paint scheme.

First up, the as-yet-unnamed boss of the army

Converted from a fantasy khorne lord

His group so far

And their rhino

Next up, the Nurgle group

Boss with deamon weapon

His armour is partially posessed, and the vents are going to be painted as ribs

[blurry] Chosen

And a Dreadnought

Renegade group

Chosen

The plasmagunner has arm-mounted weapons, something i may explore in greater depth with another squad later

Plasmagunner

Havocs

The meltagunners used to have plasma cannons until i found out that Havocs couldn't take them, so they got meltaguns instead

Remnent group

A squad of assorted near-normal SMs, lead by this fellow

And last but not least, a Predator that i bought from a mate...it needed a LOT of TLC when i got it, but it's nearly up and running, it's not in a group yet, but may well go with an Iron Warrior group.

C&C on the modelling welcome, as well as a few ideas as to colouration and army name ^^

really nice conversions, as allready said, i love your second lord, one thing is bugging me alittle, though, iam not too sure about the vents on his back, i might recomment you to take a normal termie-back, and then just fill possible gaps it would create with the chosen torso... as for the colors, i kinda keep thinking dark brownish colors. or maybe just s really dirty scheme... perhaps dirty and dusty red? with a dark-brass/dark copper trim

Thanks for the comments so far. The nurgle lord is getting re-backed, i wasn't entirely sure about it anyway.

In terms of colour, i'm inclined to avoid red, as it's closely associated with the Red Corsairs, which i' trying to avoid. I do like the idea of having them looking dirty/rusty though, but not so much as to look like papa nurgle's given them all a hug...

Keep the comments coming, i'll post up a picture of the nurgle lord as soon as i'm done with his back

well. yeah, alittle rust and dirt is never bad :P and, well. you actually have the advantage to have nurgle units within your army, meaning that you have the oppertunity to make it pretty clear, that even though they are dirty, they are not nurgle... atleast not at all when standing next to those units:P

The nurgle units will be a lot muckier

Speaking of nurgle, the boss of that particular segment has had a backlift

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/ac326/sirserval/DSC00953.jpg

A genestealer bravely sacrificed himself to allow me to carry on the "Exposed bone" look. I will be doing a certain amount of gap-filling, but it's a big improvement over the original back.

I've also had some thoughts as to the colour scheme, and my current thoughts is to go for either straight bronze, or boltgun metal with a brown ink wash of some species, thoughts?

Double-posty update

I've figured out the colour scheme, and have a WIP name for the army, both of which will be described with a little bit of fluff

++Inquisitorial Access++

++Security level: Amber++

++Subject: The Brotherhood of Schadu

The group of chaos and renegade warbands calling itself "The Brotherhood of Scadu" Has been a thorn in the Imperium's side for the last five millennia. Led by the Daemon Prince who calls himself Sceadugangen, the Brotherhood is made up of renegades from both chaos and imperial forces. Their objectives thus far are unclear, but their activites have, thus far, not spread beyond the Ultima Segmentum. When a renegade warband joins the Brotherhood, they strip the colouration from their armour, and paint their shoulderpads bone with a red border. Other than that, they keep any previous marks of afilliation (i.e. a worshipper of a chaos god may keep their marks, or a renegade from, say, the space wolves may keep all of their wolf-like imagery.

++End Segment++

Another plan i have is to include a sort of evil version of the Deathwatch, in value inverted colours [silver armour with black arms] and funky equipment a la the chap i posted up with an underslung plasmagun

comments? criticisms? Witticisms? ideas?
