Can Sanguinary Guard Succumb to Black Rage

My understanding of the fluff is that when a marine succumbs to the black rage he is inducted into the death company and his armour is painted black.

Providing this is correct, would it be feasible to have ex-Sanguinary Guards in the Death Company? I'm just thinking that it would look quite cool to have 1 or 2 SG models in my DC JP squad - just to keep it looking interesting.

Thanks in advance!

Its a cool idea, but if you want to stay true to some background or some such then i doubt they would let a sanguinary guard take his artificer armour and paint it black into the death company, i suspect they would give him a less valuble suit. In terms of actual recorded fluff i have no idea.

But if you wanna do it then hey make up your own reasons why they got to keep their armour into the DC and play em as DC, i think it sounds good.

All Blood Angels can succumb to BR, it's in their geneseed.

That said, revered relics like SG armour would probably not be painted black. I think the SG keeps a limited number of ancient artificier armour suits and any new members of the SG will inherit a suit from that limited stock. Any SG who are inducted into the DC would have to use another set of armour.

But it would look damn cool like you say, so for the visual effect alone I say yes.

Well for Rule of Cool only then I'll go for it! I must admit - actual fluff wise I figured they wouldn't let them take their nice fancy armour in the DC - or you'd have DC termies (which would be epic!)

Funny you should say that Morollan, I have Astorath ready to go...

I am VERY tempted to do up a squad of DC in the Sang guard jump packs painted with dark red wings....with Lemartes in the squad with Astorath's JP. I got the idea from my local GW who did Lemartes this way and he looks actually really really good. If anything, the SG and Dc mix would just look awesome!

IronKobra that sounds like a good plan too! Or maybe instead of the SG wings use those ones from the guy who does blood talons too, can't remember name or site, as they look more DC than fluffy SG wings

Edited for poor speeeling

It wouldn't be a big sqd, maybe 5 models and Lemmy just for the fun of it...As cool as paulsons talns are I am not a fan of his wings...Frankly I love the SG packs and wings. I know they get love/hate feelings here but they work for me...I wouldn't dare call Sanguinius's wings 'fluffy' to his face haha!

Before this borders on thread hijacking from the starter...Go for it! What's more important really...What the book says or how awesome your models look?

Sounds like a cool squad to me! Fair enough, just thought i'd throw them out there. Hmm good point, I wouldn't mention fluffyness of their wings to any BA....let alone the Primarch :)

I think it's all about how cool the models / squad looks! Shame my painting doesn't really live up to my aspirations lol.

Gonna get cracking with this on the weekend I think - Need to add some troops to my Astorath and DP Furioso force :)

3 of my 8 DC are Sang. Guard models. In fact the power weapon model is SG. It only made sense to me that EVERY Blood Angel could succumb to the black rage. Especially the veterans who in all likelihood have seen more war than your average Joe.

I think that the Marines about to go DC are spotted on the eve of battle and therefor they are given regular armor and weapons so that the Arti armor and termie armor are not wasted on suicide attacks by marines that can barely control themselves.

Still it'd be funny to see a Death Company Techmarine running around.

Blood Angels geneseed causes the Black Rage, so yes, tehre could be ex-sanguinary guard member in the DC(if you think that Tycho, a Captain, fell for the Black Rage I don't see why not).

Just remeber your opponent about the rules of the squad.

Here are a few pictures of my Death Company, including the Sanguinary Guard that have succumbed to the Black Rage. Just for grins, I tossed in a pic of my Vanguard Vets and one of my Priests! I'm a huge fan of Sanguinary Guard as Death Company. It only makes sense that the true veterans of war would be a little crazy.. having just come back from Iraq myself! The fluff makes sense in my head anyway, and it's my army! I've yet to use my Death Company on the table top though. Of course they aren't complete yet. I'm going to magnetize Jump Packs/Backpacks and finish painting them at some point. I'm married to my Vanguard right now.
