Yes, I like the powerflails too BroLo ^_^

I have been painting some Crusaders, thanks to the threat of the paddelum from Chaplain Jasper, and need to paint the tabrds and robes, do the fiddlies such as seals, then go over black areas that have been over painted. So it could be just a little longer....

I cannot find my camera, and Mum's isn't as good for shots of miniatures, so we'll see if I can still make it happen.

I have been modelling :P up some Crusaders with big swords, and a few Termies as well :woot:

Which means more to paint later....

Oh well.

By the Emperor, Brother, I am astonished by the grand work you have put into these models! Although, it makes me wish I had a GW at my town so that I could pick up models myself > .< I am definetly jealous of those models.

Now for curiosity's sake I would like to ask on Page 1, what was the helmet for Picture 4, Picture 6, and the final picture on the page? Also what helmet did you use for your current one with the terminator armor, double-ranged, and lightning claws?

Thank you thank you! :P

Many of my kitbashing has actually come from eBay. Usually I only want part X from a box, so buying the whole box isn't for me.

Picture 4, the one of a Marine with a power fist and wearing a tabard? - he has a Dark Angels hooded helmet head.

Picture 6, the Marine with the double-headed chainaxe? - he has these: Maxmini steam knights heads, the middle one.. You can specify which heads you want when you order, so I got all of that middle one.

Picture last, this is a Bretonnian knight's head.

The Terminator with a pair of lightning claws uses a Khorne Berzerker helmet, with the bunny ears cut off.

The Terminator with the combi-plasma gun and lightning claw has a Chaos Warrior helmet, from Fantasy, with the horns cut off.

If I have missed anything that you were asking about, please ask again :)

I can't believe you guys think these are Wolves?

They are far too tough to be just Space Wolves!

That's why so many people play as those Marines from Fenris, it's like a double-quarter pounder without the meat, or a decaffeinated double espresso - much safer and easier to take, but the name sounds impressive. Most people can't handle the extremes of the Greyscale and so feel like they are involved by having something in between, and some even add a touch of blue because humble grey is too much for them.

The drink Cosmopolitan came about because people wanted to be seen drinking from cocktail glass, but couldn't take the rawness of a Martini.

So it is with Space Wolves to Templars, Wolves are a sweeter and more colourful version of stirred but not shaken Templars.

Just sayin' :D

I bought a set of Chaos Knights to use their weapons and heads, but I can't figure out a good use for the horses. AFAIK bikes aren't really that good. Anyone have any ideas on what to use them for? I may just save them until I start collecting WFB- horses just don't seem to fit in well in the 40k universe.

Greetings Sehguhdier,

Are you a Templar player?

At the moment, Templar bikes are bad in terms of bang for buck. If you want a bike heavy force, consider using C:SM with either a Marine Captain with Bike or Khan with Bike to unlock 5 man Bike squads as TROOPS.

Many do feel riding beasts doesn't fit in 40K and that is fine.

But I would point to Thunderwolf Cavalry, Ork Boarboyz, Eldar exodites on 'dragons' [cold ones from Fantasy], Imperial guard Rough riders and the many Daemons on steeds.

But the choice is yours ;)

Yes sir I am- since day one (which must have been about seven or so years ago- haven't been too invested in the game until now). I'm building up a custom crusade that might play as some counts as (reason being that I'm cheap and don't want to buy multiple armies haha), but my heart still lies with Templars. I actually had a lot of the same ideas as this one.

You made some excellent points. It seems like the Marines are out of scale for the horses, just slightly. IG fit horses well and the wolves for SW are a bit bulkier than the horses.

I thought to add some hobby info.

For painting, I use a 100W light, though this can be a little warm when you are doing 'thin painting' like building up layers on a cloak.

My brother has a 22W donut shaped fluro that is actually pretty nice too, and that I certainly prefer to use when applying minimal paint as the 100W light dries out you paint too soon. They are both on arms and that lets you get the mini close to the light.

Don't use the lighting from the ceiling, it is too far away for accurate painting.

I also wear x3 magnifying glasses, from a Chemist, that improve my vision and accuracy.

When edging, I use three sized brushes to do each successive layer.

000 - or fine detail - for the grey/black edging. I just use the Adeptus Battle Grey Foundation paint thinned with water.

5/0 for the grey

20/0 for the light grey

Having all the tools, which isn't always easy to afford, turns an okay job into a good job.

These small brushes also makes it easier to do three colours for eye lenses and the white dot in the corner, etc.

I use the painting scheme from C:BT and use the Dark Angels recipe for robes: Here from GW.

For my bases I use this: Snow bases by GW

though I don't buy GW basing material. For the same money, you get some 25 times the amount from Woodland Scenics as from GW. Woodland Scenics does model train goodies, and so is available from model train specialists but also generalist hobby stores.

I have a wet-palette from Privateer Press and this greatly extends the work time from the paints I get out from the pots. It also adds that essential water to make the paint thinner than you'd get it from the pot. You should almost always be doing this. Remember to add a couple of drops to your paint after you have been painting, to compensate for evaporation.

I will also be getting some small ball bearings to stick into my paint pots, to stir up the thick goodness from the bottom and mix it into the thin stuff on top.

I am not anti-GW, but if you can get an equivalent paint from P3, do so. The P3 is slightly cheaper, but the real deal is that you get an extra 50% than with the GW pots. I am told that the P3 paints don't dry out like the GW ones do.

GW metallics and washes are still very good and I am not sure P3 has products that compete with them yet.

Now onto the secret of my Extremely Black war-plate.

After I have undercoated with GW black spray and applied a watery layer of Chaos Black over the power armour areas, I use Coat d'arms black Super Shader. It really blackens the armour, and also gives it a shininess.

If you have an area with an without it next to one another, you see how much more intense the black is with the Super Shader.

Then the secret weapon - Coat d'arms Ink Wash black. This is extremely opaque yet thin. You can apply it where ever you have overpainted from the base onto the feet of your mini, or where you've gotten carried away with your metallics, or where you have been trying to paint the Templar icons white and gotten some one the black areas.

Ink Wash will cover these and dries very thinly, offering something like a rubber or white out for your painting errors.

I apply this with either a 20/0 or 30/0 brush as it is so extremely black that you don't want it running around the place.

Imo, neatness, which is obtainable both through skill and the correct equipment, is what will make your table-top quality miniatures more than 'just' that standard. And if you can't paint at that standard, these things will elevate them to table-top quality.

That is all :D

Well, I had reached the venerable age of thirty last weekend, and my brothers bought me the Forge World Black Templars Dreadnought with both a MM and AC, in addition to the DCCW, to celebrate. I guess it will be another year to I paint it though ;) but I am still pretty excited, especially as I didn't even ask for it :D

This is a Sword and Shield Terminator, known as Castellan Eduard for the '11 Forum painting oath:

He was made by using a Termie front torso and Chaos rear torso :) and a FW storm shield. The sword, its arm and the legs are from the GK plastic range. I gave him a regular Marine helmet.

This was my first real attempt at painting power weapons like the amazing Ap0K's weapons in the '06 Golden Daemon UK competition.

I think I have done well, but have room for improvement. Practise, practise, practice :D
