Iron-Daemon Forge
ELG Counter Attack!!!!!!!!! They do call to me, they bid me take my place among them, in the Halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live...forever Hi everone Well first thing first. For those who have not seen my tournament reports in the chaos area of these fourms. I have one simple request, if you do not like tournament or have the need to be negative on a army list despit being by the codex. Then this is not the topic for you. I write tournament reports because 1: despit topics & post all over the fourms, to be honesty most are said by those who never attend tournament & only passing on hear say & 2: I enjoy tournaments, the games I fought & somthing to look back that & to show my friends how event went. Tournament are all about meeting new oppents, battle armies you rarely fight & seen some brillaint painted & converted armies. Well that my view & experince over the 9 year I attended tournament from Confict Scotland, ELG, Stirling & UKGT tournaments. So far all I have ever had are brillaint games that have help me become a better player than I was all those long year ago, well dice permit (as this report will show ^_^ ). So please no negative comment on tournaments or the list use. End of the day I am more than happy to battle or use units as long as it by the codex/rule's, all I really care about is the attude of my oppent & that it a fun game where I can learn & have a laught about it. So that to one side for those came see report.............. ELG is a wargaming club in Edinbrugh which has been running some brillaint tournaments over the past few years & I been attending to there events since 40k Radio World Wide War event. I know a lot of people who attend the events be it people from my own wargaming club (Stirling wargamer's), my local store (GW Falkirk) or because I use to be part timer in Edinbrugh Games Workshop store. This year was ELG - Counter Attack 2010. In the past I been useing my Iron Warriors in the tourmament scene, in fact been useing my might & favrout Iron Warriors for five years solid, which you can see by my Sig has had a lot of games & attending a lot of events. Well this year I though I take a small break & try a new army out for this year tournament session (ELG, Stirling Rapid Fire & UKGT) which was Space Wolves. Pick these for two reason, has somthing that the current chaos list dose not (Land Speeder being one them ;) ) & also just new challenge in converting & painting the models which is my main strength with in the hobby with the aim of best painted army (again as you can see my IW have got a fair few awards for painting, so got to keep up the challenge with my Wolves now). So after wake up nice & earily this moring (6.30am, who hear of a time like that on a Sat morning, I never knew this was a real thing  ) here a account of the tournament & also how dice can really go against you. All I will say is I have never laught so much or laught as hard in any games in the 14 year I been in this hobby until today. Here my army list with report following & Info on my list/why I pick the units I did. Games are not turn on turn base just s short summary Space Wolves 1500 point army list HQ: Rune Priest Dilios Gunnar Rune Priest, Runic Weapon, Bolt Pistol, Frag & Krak Grenades, Chooser of Slain, Wolf-tooth necklace, Runic Armour – 140 Psychic power: Living Lighting, Jaws of the World Wolf Elites: Rothgar the Skald Dreadnought, Dreadnought close combat weapon w/Storm Bolter, Smoke Launcher, Searchlight, Twin Linked Lascannon, Extra Armour, Wolf-tooth necklace – 160 Odin Dreadnought, Dreadnought close combat weapon w/Storm Bolter, Smoke Launcher, Searchlight, Plasma Cannon, Extra Armour, Wolf-tooth necklace – 140 Wolf Guards: Sevn, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Fist, Combi Melta – 43 Edgtho, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Fist, Combi Melta – 43 Rethel, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Fist, Combi Melta – 43 Haltaf, Frag & Krak Grenades, Combi Melta – 23 Troops: Grey Hunter Unit - Trovald 5 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Weapon, Melta Gun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard – 120 Razorback, Searchlight, Smoke Launcher, Extra armour, Twin Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade 5 – 95 Grey Hunter Unit - Gnyrll 5 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Weapon, Melta Gun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard – 120 Razorback, Searchlight, Smoke Launcher, Extra armour, Twin Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade 5 – 95 Grey Hunter Unit - Ranek 8 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & krak Grenades, Power Weapon, Melta Gun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard – 165 Rhino, Smoke Launcher, Searchlight, Storm Bolter, Extra Armour, Dozer Blade – 55 Grey Hunter unit - Freyr 5 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, Melta Gun – 80 Razorback 40, Searchlight, Smoke Launcher, Extra Armour 15, Twin Linked Heavy Bolter – 55 Fast Attack: Land Speeder unit – Storm Wolves 2 Land Speeder, 2 Multi Melta, 2 Heavy Flamer - 140 Heavy Support: Long Fang unit - Wulfric 5 Long Fangs, Close Combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, 4 Launcher – 115 Long Fang unit - Ulfar 5 Long Fangs, Close Combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, 4 Launcher – 115 Total 1747 points Round 1 - The Green Horde Oppent - Iain Skinner Army - Orks, Warboss on Bike, Mek, Ork Nobz Biker (around 410pts), Ork Nobz unit (troops chose, 10) w/Trukk, 20 Orks Boyz, 12 Orkx Boyz w/Trukk, 30 Orks Boyz, Battle Wagon. Might be a few other things in here that I may have miss out, not included wargear into the overall list. Mission - One Object each (Capture & Control?) with Pitch Battle set up Out come - Loss, was slaughter I know Iain Skinner for a few years since my Iron Warriors fought him back in the GW Glasgow days (2006, he pop in while wife was shopping) & since move to GW Falkirk have been getting the odd game vs him when time permit. But never fought Iain in a tournament, but I know full well he dose really well having won Conflict Scotland last year & a few other events under his name & winning ELG Counter Attack 2010 today. Despit rarely getting much game, the games I fought in the past vs Iain have been good as he use a lot of good tactical abilty that not a lot of people use & show him as a good player/why he dose brillaint in the tournament & with that it help you learn & improve. But from the game, it was to earily in the moring to battle Ork's  In the past I done pertty well by this has been the only time I loss to orks in a tournament setting. I made a few mistake, one them was, on turn 1 when I move my tanks I should have but them a bit more together/no gap's & also bring out my units behind the Transports. But I'm to use to hold in until turn 2 & going out to assault on my term's. Iain made sure I paid for this by going through the gaps in my tanks & make sure he block all area's. But to be fair I did Jaws of World Wolf his warboss on turn one :D But with orks to the left, orks to the right, block my might Space Wolves in there metal coffian's it look like all hope was gone. I honsty though by turn 3 my Space Wolves where as good as gone. But luck smile on me as turn 2 most damage I got on any/all transport was a immobile, maybe not the greatess, but that least there was hope. With only the Heavy Bolter Razorback/unit in side still able to move, they aim to do a search & rescuse mission, baseicly make a hope in the Orks line's & free those units inside the trap tanks with the support fire of the Long Fangs. I mange to get most of the orks number down & made sure there was a gap. While else where hope came, though a tank was destroyed, lucky it was on a 6 on the tank result chart which allow the unit with in able to be plase where the tank once was & not from the 2 inch of the door's (as to the rule book). Though I was pinned, it was still good, though the unit with in where attack by the unit of Orks Nobz Biker's, that least I was able to make them pay & cause a few wounds before the Power Klaws rip them apart. While else where, thanks to the HB Razorback unit make that gap. Though they where slaughter. The unit they where save (unit from Twin Lascannon razorback) mange to get out & kick some orks in by close combat, but again sadily rip apart. In the end I was left with 3 Long Fangs, Iain move what was left of the Orks Bikers, fire into my Long Fangs...........three one's :ermm: Iain had slaughter me & had claim both object. As per normal here photos from the event I learnt a lot from this game & my mind was click back into order once the Cola kick in. http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07542.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07544.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07545.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07546.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07547.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07548.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07549.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07550.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07551.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07552.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07553.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07554.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07555.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07556.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07557.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07559.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07560.jpg Most of our dead/what we could not be bother putting onto the tray's http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07562.jpg So thank Iain for this game, learnt a lot & was a good game. I still hold moral victory for killing your Orks warboss with Jaws of the World Wolf on turn 1, what more fun than kill your HQ on first turn  Next Round 2...........how long did a combat last for?? Also a fine exsample that no matter how well plan you may have somthing.....Dice really really do play a big part of this game, not only round 2 will show this. Iron-Daemon Forge
Ahhh just wrote my round 2 report only for the fourm to cut out on me!!! :P So after some launch, talking to fellow gamers how there games went & to vote for army that would win best painted/player chose award. It was time to go into round 2. Round 2 - Give an Dark Angel a sword, he makes a knife! Oppent - Joe Army - Space Marines: Lysander (Count as useing Games Day model), 3-4? 10 man Tactical units, 2x 5 Scouts units w/Shot Gun & power fist sarg, Devastators, Stern Guards & a Whirlwind Mission - Kill Points, Dawn of War Outcome - Loss, Joe got 10 Kill points, I got 7 Kill points. I had 1425 Vpts, Joe had 1415 from me. ELG made the Kill points mission a little diffrent. Basicly if you where not a tank you had with out number/keep come back when the unit was wipe out useing the reserve roll's. I know Joe from my own gaming club Stirling tournaments & he gose to the local GW store I go to (GW Falkirk) from time to time when family/work committment permit. But I never got a game vs him. Overall I never laught this much or laught as hard in a game of 40k, to sum it up (since orignaly post is not about with fourm cutting out <_< ) - Both me & Joe dice rolls where shocking, I mean we could make our armour save's really easy. But to hit.... I would add in to wound but we would not even get that far for most part of the game - Rhino Mount unit & Las Razorback unit are in close combat, this last from turn 2 to turn 5 - Other Las Razorback mounted unit are in close combat & only kill one model in that phase, but I made all my saves - When the Rhino/Razorback combi assault finial break through. But when the do, due to units I slay in past turn's, they where all nicely line up. I belive Razorback unit had 3 GH left, the Rhino one had Rune Priest & 4 GH. So there a Devastators units & two Tactical units who fire into my 3 Grey Hunter, I made all bar one going to ground save from the devastoators unit. It was down to mass bolther from a Tactical unit that wore them down. While other tactical unit blasted the 4 Grey Hunters, leaving just the Rune Priest. He stood there & laught that all the bullets that made there way through with his nice 2+ save. - Scout who come back on due to mission rules, assaulted my Rune Priest due to having the power fist.........I failed to hit. Joe hit, but failed to wound with Power Fist. Following assault phase, I fail to hit once more despit needing 3's to hit!!!! But one of Joe power fist attack & got through killing the Rune Priest. We just had to laught about this - With time going fast & possible extra turn's, we got a turn 6. I needed to get three kill points (Joe being 10 this point) to draw the game. I though this would be easy with Lysander around, a Attack Bike & three Stren Guards. So I fired what was left of my Long Fangs into Joe Strenguards..... he made all cover save's. For his attack bike I fire a Twin Linked Lascannon from a Dreadnought & a Multi Melta from a Speeder, both hit & wound.....the cover saves where made. Lysander took 6 Meltas & 8 Rapid Fire Bolters, only down to one wound (turn before my Heavy Bolter mounted unit try gun Lysander down....I never made it past the hit phase). But same time to be fair the combat with the Rhino & Razorbacks mounted units I did make 90% to 99% of saves from turn 2 to 5 In the end the game ended on turn 6 (I roll for turn 7). Joe won with 10 kill points vs 7 of mine. The mission having with out Numbers made this insane & a nice little challenge, keep you on your feet. I think we are both going to burn our dice. SO photos from this game once more http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07619.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07621.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07624.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07626.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07628.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07629.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07631.jpg Fine exsample of my armour saves http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07633.jpg The never ended combat http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07634.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07637.jpg Looking lone here for the Rune Priest http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07639.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07638.jpg Vs Scout http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07640.jpg Second round http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07644.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07645.jpg Me trying to get those last kill points, as you can see I was not taken any risk on Lysander....well apart from the dice rolls  http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07642.jpg Overall a really good game, just me & Joe could not stop laughting that our dice rolls, how they work for our saves, etc.... Lot of people who came by watch our game (due to there finish or a oppent went to get drinks from bar) also laught a lot. Next Round 3 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209051-elg-counter-attack-2010-tournament/#findComment-2494104 Share on other sites
Iron-Daemon Forge
So the finial round of this great tournament. Round 3 - Have we anything resembling a plan Oppent - Tim Army - Nids, Trygon HQ, Carnefex, 10 Gargoyle, Ravener (unsure number, they got killed by Deep striken), 20 Gaunts or around that number, 2 Hive Guard, 3 Zoanthrope, unit of 5 Warriors & a HQ Warrior (unsure of the names due to not know much on nids), Genestealer's. I think that the whole list. Mission d3+2 Objects, Spearhead set up Outcome Win Specil rules for this was, Building act in the way they had done in the 4th Ed rules so block line of sight. But we also had to roll for each building/pice of terrain. It was to show if they where smoking (+1 cover save) or Dangerous (sp?) Terrain. Once more the dice where effected me & my oppent, but not like the last round, but still all we could do was laught that those moments. To give a quick sum up - The Ravener deep strike & scatter into my unit. They where destroyed from mis-hap. The Gargoyle's had also deep strike but got dely. - Turn 5 the Trygon had deep strike in the back of my line's I had sent in a few units to deal with the Trygon, getting this beast down to one wound, though that the cost of those units. It had regeneration & was back up to four wounds :P So in my last turn being 5, I had sent in the Plasma Cannon Dreadnought 1: Plasma cannon fired....it went back onto the top of my Dreadnought, lucky Russ watch after him 2: I assaulted, as seen I have Wolf Tooth so 3+ to hit.......like I said in last game, dice did not favour 3: The Trygon had got a 6 to destroy my Dreadnought on the tank damnge.........so it get 3 inch scatter, Trygon being near by, S3 from the destroyed tank vs T6 monster. Out of all this, it was THIS!! that cause a wound or I that least rolled a 6 to wound him, unsure if the Trygon made his save or not as after that the game was over, me holding two of the five objects. But it had become a epic moment/talk of the tournament. Can't belive that & this is the reason why I call the Dreadnought after Odin as his Plasma cannon has not been the best from time to time. Some photos. Sorry if some photos came out blurry camera was going funny Set up http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07646.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07647.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07648.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07649.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07650.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07651.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07652.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07653.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07654.jpg Leding up to that epic moment for the Plasma cannon dreadnought, as seen he sight the Trygon & move in, while the Lascannon Dreadnought went in before cause the Trygon to be on one wound before pass the regeneration save http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07656.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07657.jpg This is the Trygon tank (like King of the Hill), I know Trygon a big model but this is showing off <_< http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07659.jpg Just a shame I never got a photo of my Plasma Cannon dreadnought epic fail moment. Out of everthing I still can not belive it the tank destroy damnge that wounder a Trygon  I won the game by 2 objects out of the 5. Again another great game, good laughts that the dice, mainly the Dreadnought Plasma cannon, no one could belive what had happen. As the all the round three where finish for today event. It was time to gather around & find out who won overall & who got some of the side prize. For me I won player chose/best painted army for my Space Wolves, I won the ELG Player chose award last year with my might Iron Warriors. So good to know people like my Space Wolves as well in term of painting, converting, etc... (photos do not do my army well, drown out a lot of detail/way it look in real life) http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07660.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07568.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07573.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20CA%202010/DSC07574.jpg So that it from now, it late, I been up since 6.30am this moring & it now 11pm. Tired as anything with three brillaints games & a long day overall. I learnt a lot of new stuff for my Space Wolves army game wise. The next few tournaments will be Stirling wargaming club Rapid Fire & then the UKGT in Nov. Will get a list of why I took the units done tomorrow when I have a moment free, as said it late & been a long day. Iron-Daemon Forge
Thanks Littlbitz Yep Wolves been a year in the making. You can see other photos by my friend Dave & he also took a video of my Space Wolves army http://incunabulum.co.uk/blog/2010/08/22/e...-of-the-armies/ Also onto why I pick the units I did (just getting over the hype that my photo in the 40k rule book ). So why I pick the units I did HQ:Rune Priest Dilios Gunnar Rune Priest, Runic Weapon, Bolt Pistol, Frag & Krak Grenades, Chooser of Slain, Wolf-tooth necklace, Runic Armour – 140 Psychic power: Living Lighting, Jaws of the World Wolf With the release of the current codex, Rune Priest have became a good buy & come with a lot cool gear. Don't get me wrong all the HQ chose in the Wolves are solid & have a good place & I do in the future plan to have all HQ in my own army. But for the tournament, you tend to see a lot of Lash Daemon Prince, Eldar Seer Counsil. So no need to really exsplain the Rune Priest, also as point out a lot of Chaos Marines armies take Daemon Prince (I did with my Iron Warriors :D ) so a nice 2+ to wound with the force weapon. As for power, it was easy. Jaws of the World wolf, able to pick out models with this power & kill models regardless of wounds. But I will be honsty that I do rarely use it, in the whole ELG tournament I only had a chance to use it agaist a Ork Nobz Biker unit (killing the Warboss  ) & then against Nids when taken down the Carnefix. But it good to have & would alway pick this as one of my two main powers. Living Lighting, again S7 unlimted range, why would you not want to take this?? Blast units of the object from the other side of the table, take on tanks. Having the Chooser of Slain make this power so much better than it already is hitting on 2+ & wound on 2 most of the times. Though d6 can go against you still one shot is better than none :D In games I general keep my Rune Priest in the Rhino useing his Power to help out the Rhino mount unit. From time to time or if there no real threat or the Rune Priest Force weapon is needed, he will come out & fight in bitter close combat with his fellow battle brother, makeing it worth of a saga. As why the Wolf Tooth though he already Ws5, there are stuff that can reduse your weapon skills or if there a Hero that need taken down, just to try help the odds.... even though it went against me in Round 2 vs the Scouts :( But Rune Priest are a must for any tournament army. Also this is really the first time I have use a model with Psychic abiltys. Have no regreat. Elites:Rothgar the Skeld Dreadnought, Dreadnought close combat weapon w/Storm Bolter, Smoke Launcher, Searchlight, Twin Linked Lascannon, Extra Armour, Wolf-tooth necklace – 160 Odin Dreadnought, Dreadnought close combat weapon w/Storm Bolter, Smoke Launcher, Searchlight, Plasma Cannon, Extra Armour, Wolf-tooth necklace – 140 I chose Dreadnought for a number of reason. First all I have alway been a fan of Dreadnoughts & try to included them in as many Marines armies as I have collected. But in game term's, end of the day there great for combat & shooting. I chosen Twin Linked Lascannon on the first one as Dreadnought are a little slow compaired to the rest of my army, so need the range, also Assault cannon it easy for someone to set up out of range & immobile me, that & rending is so over rated in my view. While the Plasma Cannon Dreadnought, Plasma Cannon was taken in the event of clump up units take object or units that deep strike. As for Wolf Tooth, I took this as end of the day what more fun than hitting on a 3+ & wound on 2+ in close combat ;) Game wise, I took Dreadnought so they can stop unit that would other wise slaughter my army...from doing that. What I mean is, say a unit of Bloodcrusher, they are not able to do much vs Armour 12 models. Or in one object each mission, the two Dreadnoughts usely sit back with my Heavy Bolter Razorback unit, this is so if anyone get close I have the support to deal with them. Say like a unit of Tactical Marine, charge in & slaugter them or that least hold them up a little bit away from my object. I tend to use the Heavy Bolter Razorback as a shield for both Dreadnought while shooting/protect object. Though Dreadnought cost a bit more than they did in 3rd/4th ed. End of the day I think there worth it. They have a great role of anti tank & close combat. When I pick units I like them to have multi roles, able to deal with anything that happen during the game. Wolf Guards:Sevn, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Fist, Combi Melta – 43 Edgtho, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Fist, Combi Melta – 43 Rethel, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Fist, Combi Melta – 43 Haltaf, Frag & Krak Grenades, Combi Melta – 23 I never understand why people take a full 10 man Grey Hunter squad & no Wolf Guard all for that free specil weapon. I rather have x amount of Grey Hunter with the Wolf Guard. As end of the day you can still get that specil weapon, though combi still good & a close combat weapon, mainly a Power Fist since your getting your 2 attacks instead of one if arm on a Grey Hunter. Also Ld9, this help a lot as I feel 40k is now heavy on the Ld in term of when you reach close combat for exsample or even for the Space Wolves with there Counter Attack rule. It why I make sure to take say Icon of Glory over the gods once on my Chaos Marine units as re-roll better, if you want a chaos god banner, might as well just get a cult unit who are fearless & do not have to worry about the abilty being loss. Also as said there, a great 2/3 Power Fist attack added to that unit of Grey Hunter who'll have Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen & possible a Power Weapon if points permit. Also what not to like about these mini heros, offer great modeling/conversion. I alway split mine into the back of Grey Hunter below. Troops:Grey Hunter Unit - Trovald 5 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Weapon, Melta Gun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard – 120 Razorback, Searchlight, Smoke Launcher, Extra armour, Twin Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade 5 – 95 Grey Hunter Unit - Gnyrll 5 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Weapon, Melta Gun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard – 120 Razorback, Searchlight, Smoke Launcher, Extra armour, Twin Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade 5 – 95 I went for Razorback over Rhino for those units as to be honsty I been useing Rhinos a lot in my Iron Warriors & it somthing we do not get. Also model wise I have a conversion idea to use the Predators turret. Also add a bit more anti tank to the army with the nice twin Lined Lascannons. Mark of the Wulfen, you really need these d6 attack +1 (& any chargeies), more so in small units like these if they are assaulted by, say Orks. Wolf Standard again what not to like about re-roll ALL 1's. End of the day there will be times when you really need that close combat to go your way & the units to still be there. You really need the odd's to go in your favour. It like in the White Dwarf Tale of Four Gamers when Pete Foly talk about his Eldar & the important of a Farseer who he tooled up with re-roll saves & to wound. This hold true for any army when you have that one turn/phase you really need to go your way. Also what more funny than re-roll a failed Power Fist wound. Power Weapon, though I already got a Wolf Guard with Power Fist & a Mark of Wulfen. Power Fist strike last & Mark of Wulfen your having to rely on rending. Just again there are times when you need to kill that model right away/sooner the better before he can wipe you out. If I want to kill a oppent unit I want to do this as soon as possible. Grey Hunter Unit - Ranek8 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & krak Grenades, Power Weapon, Melta Gun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard – 165 Rhino, Smoke Launcher, Searchlight, Storm Bolter, Extra Armour, Dozer Blade – 55 Same as above, bigger squad so it can take on more/is the main bulk of my assault. While the two Razorback units above tend to tag team slaughter units that the same time. I can rely on this Rhino unit to take care of it self. Rhino take so my Rune Priest has a place to use his Power. Grey Hunter unit - Freyr5 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, Melta Gun – 80 Razorback 40, Searchlight, Smoke Launcher, Extra Armour 15, Twin Linked Heavy Bolter – 55 With 5th ed being all about object now. You really need a cheap unit to hold your own in capture & control for exsample. No matter how much of the oppent army you kill (well unless you wipe them out) it mean nothing if they hold all the object or have more than you. So in capture & control this unit tend to just sit back with the two dreadnoughts protecting my own. While in none capture & control, they will go about & ether give support in close combat or act as bait trying to draw oppents unit in so I can later ether counter attack with the above units or to blast them. Though Ironic, while I said use as bait....they done as much damnge as any of the other three Grey Hunter units. They killed Daemon Prince, Blood Angels Librarian's, all with little to no loss  Fast Attack:Land Speeder unit – Storm Wolves 2 Land Speeder, 2 Multi Melta, 2 Heavy Flamer - 140 # Again as said there, it all about object. These Land Speeder offer that contesting unit. On top this, the UKGT last year saw a lot of Land raider, again with the new rules for tanks make them a lot better. As such we'll struggle a little bit. So Multi Melta for Armour 14 hunting. While the Heavy Flamer to take on the oppent object baby sitting units. As nothing more annoying than say a unit of Scouts with a 2+ cover save, you can fire as many Lascannon as you want & be luck to kill one per turn. But Flamer will sort them out sooner than later. In units of Two, as while both are still alive. They pretty much got Extra Armour for free, turning that can not move & fire down to a can not fire. You alway want to be on the move & when you can not shot, go flat out to get that nice 4+ cover save/hide until your able to shot the following turn Heavy Support:Long Fang unit - Wulfric 5 Long Fangs, Close Combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, 4 Launcher – 115 Long Fang unit - Ulfar 5 Long Fangs, Close Combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, 4 Launcher – 115 To be honsty with the Long Fangs. With the tournament being 1750pts, I tend to take my 1500pts UKGT list with the add on of 250pts. So two unit of Long Fangs are 230 together & then Runic Armour for the Rune Priest. This also ment less models to carry on the day of the tournament as it was a bit of a walk from the stastion to the place. It also ment less to paint. But in 1750pts, again like the Dreadnought & HB Raz unit, they tend to set up protecting my object. Other wise they will give supporting fire. But to be honsty I tend to forget about them when setting up & place them anyway as I do not play my 1750pts that much apart from tournament, so getting to grip with the unit. But so far they have done really well when use. Sadiess thing is, the Squad Leader has more attack than any other model in the whole army (apart from Mark of the Wulfen). General stuff Extra Armour - I take Extra Armour despit the point cost because I want to be on the move. As last thing I want is not being able to move in the last turn to get a object or contest. While Dreadnought wise this stop Grenades from hitting me on WS term's as to the rule book, so oppent with that Tactical unit will be needing 6's to place those grenades, while I can happily sit there hitting them on 3+ & wound them on 2. Also as seen by my sig I do commission. I did a NQ to HND model making course & so I alway model my Extra armour by plasticard, help advertise me & just look cool. Dozer Blade - Again did not want any mess up like immobile myself last turn when going to grab objects, as know my luck it dose & will happen. My Heavy Bolter Razorback has immoble ever time it has went through terrain. Overall I wanted this force to be a mobilty fire power & combat heavy. This allow me to play in my terms where I can eather blast the oppent apart like Orks or Nids, then finish off my oppents by kicking in there teeth by Close Combat. Just I like my close combat & I like useing my tanks But overall when I attend tournament, I like to put up a challenge, but my main goal is alway the painting army award IP Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209051-elg-counter-attack-2010-tournament/#findComment-2494893 Share on other sites
