Seahawk
Battle 4 As Chaplain Hiltraud and Brother-Captain Silon Almach entered the area, Calgar's voice boomed out "This shall be the last duel of the day. Tomorrow will see our four winners compete against each other." Saluting to each other, the two combatants started circling the combat area, each trying to gain a measure of their opponent. While doing so, Chaplain Hiltraud leveled his stormbolter and fired, the shells detonating too early and leaving Silon Almach unharmed. Seeing that the good chaplain was going to stay at range if possible, Silon changed course and moved to intercept him. Hiltraud countered by moving at a different angle and firing again, this time the shells flying true and impacting on his brother-captain's ornate armor. However, such armor is barely troubled by pinpricks as that and as such Silon was still unharmed. Seeing there to be only one course of action, Hiltraud shouted a prayer to the Emperor and charged, moving as fast as his terminator armor allowed. Despite its bulk, Hiltraud moved around with a fair amount of agility, landing a telling blow on Silon's storm shield arm with enough force to wrench it away. Shieldless, Silon was still a threat, and proved it by going on the attack. Blow after blow was traded, each combatant showing their immense skill with the blade. Neither could land a good blow until Silon circled in past Hiltraud's guard and thundered a gauntleted fist into his helmet. Dazed, Hiltraud could barely keep his opponent away, and Silon gained the upper hand, scoring deep through the terminator armor. Unable to clear his head, Hiltraud yielded to his brother. Victory to Brother-Captain Silon Almach! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209147-bd-round-1-battles/page/2/#findComment-2500464 Share on other sites
Seahawk
Sorry for the delay folks, but I had left important information at the office over the weekend and didn't realize it. Mod fail, lolz. It is the 100% better stat line and equipment that saw the Captains through to stand over the Librarian and Chaplains. When it was two captains fighting (Diomedes and Gaius) it took the longest at 9 rounds to finally get through defenses and the like and determine a winner, while the poor support characters lasted 4-5 rounds. Easier to hit, less wounds, typically easier to wound, worse saves...they just couldn't get it done. This simply supports my position that SM characters are not combat characters (captains maybe an exception). In one on one fights, each of our supporting characters (librarians and chaplains) went down like a sack of potatoes, barely causing wounds on the captains. greatcrusade08
This simply supports my position that SM characters are not combat characters (captains maybe an exception). ive said something similar all along, we have only one or two powerhouses in the whole codex.. force multipliers are much better at our style of warfare though. im still a little surprised by the cassius match up, the claws re-rolls gave the captain a net in terms of rolling 6's to wound, but it was still open for cassius.. still nevermind, i doubt i would have beaten the relic blade captains anyway. i vote chaplian hitruad as best painted ultramarine though Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209147-bd-round-1-battles/page/2/#findComment-2500476 Share on other sites
Xeonic
Well, I figured as much, but I've gotta be different. It did cause me to paint up my termie libby though, so that's a good thing. Even if a storm shield won't really make that much of a difference vs a captain's superior duelist staline. ^_^ Stenciled Raideus onto my honored imperium champion statue to honor this fight though. :woot: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209147-bd-round-1-battles/page/2/#findComment-2500480 Share on other sites
Seahawk
Nice! Yea GC08, you'd be surprised how many 6's came up. I was surprised. And my fiance was doing the rolling! haha. But your rosarius saved your bacon statistically higher than normal as well, so it kinda worked... (if this sounds bitter its becuase i roll waaaayy too many 1's for my liking) my money is on captain scissorhands to win ultramarines champion Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209147-bd-round-1-battles/page/2/#findComment-2500566 Share on other sites
KhorneHunter57x
Even disarmed, a Space Marine Captain is dangerous with just his fists. Sorry for the delay folks, but I had left important information at the office over the weekend and didn't realize it. Mod fail, lolz. To fail in the service of the Emperor is the greatest of sins. B) Now, I picture Silon getting a "This shield is your life!" talk from Obi-wan Calgar. :D So when do we find out the next round of duels? Chaplain Hiltraud
i vote chaplian hitruad as best painted ultramarine though Thankyou very much. ;) I really like your Cassius, the white is a refreshing change from the norm and it's very well done. Cassius and Thantoes' Captain had my votes! :D I must say, beautiful write ups Seahawk! It was a nice read... As for the Chaplains and Libbys not doing well in 1 on 1 combat v Captains; I'd already figured that and entered Hiltraud cause I thought it would be funny, and it is all about fun. So far I don't think I've ever won single combat with my HQ in any games I've played, the dice gods really frown upon me when it comes to that! :( Although, my VV always shine. B) Anyways, congrats to the victors of this round, I look forward to reading the next round results! May the Emperors light shine upon you all. Thantoes
Also Im amazed Cassius went down. and I am just amazed that my captain actually killed something since in the real world he tends to not be able to kill anything. Maybe thats the secret. Play a game and get someone else to roll the dice for me :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209147-bd-round-1-battles/page/2/#findComment-2501191 Share on other sites
