bulley
Debating adding a couple of LS's into my force to "support" my Baal AC HB's. I loved them back in 2nd Ed/early 3rd and ran with typhoon but given how versatile The AC is I am unsure which I'd prefer or compliment my force with now. What peoples take/experience with the different LCs and weapon set ups, not just ac vs the typhoon
Lynnean
i used to use a LS Typhoon; just because of the big ranged support, wich my army needed. though now it's 90 points; i haven't used it anymore :P
JamesI
i used to use a LS Typhoon; just because of the big ranged support, wich my army needed. though now it's 90 points; i haven't used it anymore :PThe Typhoon is worth it. When it was cheaper it had the small weak missiles. Now the ability to fire 2 krak missiles, or if facing hordes to use the heavy bolter and the frag missiles is great. Deschenus Maximus
IMO, Tornados with ACs just aren't worth it. They cost way too much (which is too bad because they look badass). I've found that you really want 3 speeders if you're going to field any at all. Either 3 x MM or 3 x HB + Typhoon ML. The latter is very nice, but damned expensive. daboarder
typhoons are worth their points in gold, the tornado's assualt cannon however should really be a bit cheaper to make it a wortwhile option.
bulley
Cheers. My instinct was to stay with typhoon back in 2/3 Ed they were damn cheep and worked well with my guess range whirlwinds and razors (but space wolves). I do like he versatile nature. I may rock 2 or 3 see how forgiving my points are.
Firedrake28
There's pretty much no contest between the two Land Speeder patterns now. If the Tornado cost 10 points less it'd be worth considering but as it stands the insane versatility of the Typhoon makes it win out over the Tornado. Zeller
Plus the Tornados effective range is 24" putting it that much closer to the enemy's units.
bulley
Do people typically run with HB's on the typhoon's? or rock the MM's. Back in the day I was using the HB's, but it was to keep it rediculously cheap (it was like 55 odd points or something silly)
JamesI
I still run the heavy bolter. The heavy bolter melds well with the typhoon due to the range and makes it more versatile. If you use a speeder with a multilmelta, my suggestion is to not give it another weapon or just give it a heavy flamer. The heavy bolter typhoon can stay at 36 inch range and still be effective. If you only move 6, you can fire both the heavy bolter and the krak missiles, useful for shooting at MEQ or light transports. If you go 12, you can fire the kraks or the heavy bolter and the frag missiles (good for hordes).
Fortunate Son
I like the second weapon option with my MMs, like a HB. Two reasons mostly: one, weapon destroyed results. and two, there are times where the MMs are less effective than a HB would be. (like when you've already cleared all the armor off the board) but then again, I like to field two or three squads of 3 speeders. Really looking forward to the Stormraven model (if we ever get one) My other army is Eldar. I like skimmers and walkers.
Morticon
Typhoon is the awesome sauce!! Great fire support unit!
bloodancient
well at least we all agree that LS are awesome. I run 2 tornadoes with AC and MM and one typhoon with MM. Those MC and armor always take a toll on me so I field as much anti-armor as possible
Zid
I use Typhoon personally. I find they're one shot wonders; they pop a vehicle and die, or dual flamer something then die. They're great bullet magnets, quick and mobile. I like the "idea" of tornados, but I really cannot justify 90 pts on a av 10 skimmer... I usually run 3 in seperate squads above 2k, 2 or so at 1500 (depends on opponent), and none below 1500.
Kunanaki
Tornado's in my opinion. I like the effect that a Typhoon has, but for a Mobile Weapons Platform, it's a bit too costly. I personally run 3 Land Speeders, all separate. I find having last turn objective contestors and flank harassing with them wonderful, and with heavy flamers, you can really pull some hate away from the rest of your army or clear an objective to capture it. The way I figure it, The Table and how you handle them is really where your preference comes in. I prefer a fast trinity of 1 Double Heavy Flamers, and 2 with Multi Melta and Heavy Flamer Kits, just so I can rush in with 70 points and destroy things that are more costly, without banking too hard on anti tank. Properly Supported, a Land Speeder is completely capable of making it's points back, sometimes twice over.
