GlauG
Long story short, I tabled a guy locally who doesn't get beaten often, so he's demanded a rematch tomorrow... with Eldar tailored to take down my twin-Stormraven, Assault-based list. After faring incredibly badly against two sets of Mech Guard, and last night Vulkan-Marines, I really want to try a build where so many of my points aren't stuck in very fragile troop transports. I've been toying instead with Drop Podding Furiosos and Furioso Librarians for an initial strike, and some anti-psychic defense, and switching out my usual Mephiston for the Sanguinor. I still find all of Dante's special rules rather useful, so I'm inclined to keep him in. For what it's worth, my opponent is using the following as far as I know; Dark Reapers+ Exarch Wraithguard Jain Zar and Howling Banshees Lots of Fire Prisms Vypers with Bright Lances. Assume for argument's sake that I can have absolutely anything BA legal in my army, since I pretty much can at this point. Suggestions on what to take, or what to definitely avoid would be appreciated. :P
Zealadin
His army is pretty bad by the looks of it...... Fireprisms are good for killing SM's, as are Dark Reapers, but any type of drop/jp army will eat him alive. Personally I'd think that Frag Cannons on drop dreads might be quite painful to him, if you want to tailor. A HG plasma gun squad would also really really put the hurt on those wraithguard. Is he using lots of Wave Serpents? Or is that pretty much his whole list?
GlauG
Lots of Wave Serpents, yeah. There are some Dire Avengers, and an Avatar. I'm leaning towards some Vanguard at this point, and shooty stormsheildy Honour Guard.
GlauG
Well, got my potential list, though I guess that now means this should go into the subforum; Dante Sanguinor JP Priest, JP, PW 10 man RAS, 2 Meltas, SC and PF on Sgt Lemartes, 4 DC, Jump Packs, one PF DC Dread, Talons, Magna-Grapple, HF (let's not get into the Lemartes debate again, my local crowd thus far consider him to count as he's an upgrade character) 5 Vanguard, JPs, one LC, 2 SS, one PW Stormraven, EA, TLAC, Typhoon launcher Any last-minute comments before I leave for work in the morning? :)
Tame
1750 pts and only one scoring unit ? I hope you are not playing objective games :) IMHO, you have too many different units and no solid core. - Sanguinor AND Dante? That's a lot of points. I'd say remove Sanguinor (hell, remove both) - That stormraven is also pricey with the typhoon and is going to be shot down very fast since it's the only AV target and you can't really hide it. - You probably need some psychic defence and more reliable anti-tank
GlauG
Was flat Annihilation, we'd agreed it in advance already. :D Rolled for deployment though. The game went absolutely perfectly, for what it's worth. I switched out the DC Dread for a similar Furioso, he took first turn, I stuck everything in reserve, and it all came on in my second turn.... Vanguard tied up Wraithguard for about 4 turns of equally ineffectual CC, Sanguinor killed the Avatar in one round of combat (6 hits and 6 wounds, without needing rerolls), the Stormraven not only survived 3 Bright Lances and a Pulse Laser, it also took down nearly all the enemy Armour... and allowed me, by shooting their Wave Serpent in the butt, to bog down Jain Zar and her sisters with the Furioso Dread, who they couldn't possibly hurt. Dante and friends Deep Struck and took out Dire Avengers and Vypers, and we called the game as my entire army minus about 7 assorted Assault Marines and Vanguard advanced on his Dark Reapers. Yeah... totally textbook victory, which was a bit heartening after 3 really freaking hard tournament games/games against experienced tourney players. :) Also a good first outing for the Sanguinor, I might consider him as a solo HQ choice from now on. Also an excellent first outing for my Stormraven's Typhoon launchers, though they managed to miss their first 2 turns of shots...
