What to add next?

I'm a BA newbie (18 years as a Dark Angel player) and I have a 1500 point DC only army as follows:

Astorath plus 8 JP DC

2x 10 man DC in rhinos

3 x DC Dreads (2 in Drop Pods)

I just squeak in under 1500 points with that as there are little in the way of upgrades to the squads.

The next stage is to add 500 points to make up a 2000 point army

So do I:

1 - Add 2x 10 man DC squads in Rhinos

2 - Add 1x 10 man DC squad in Rhino, 1x 5 man DC squad in TL Assault Cannon Razorback and a few upgrades to the squads

3 - Add 1x 16 man DC in Land Raider Crusader

4 - Lose a couple of JP DC, Add a DC liveried Storm Raven Another pod for the third dread and some squad upgrades

I appreciate that this army is not everyone's cup of tea but I like it as I'm not after a tournament winner but a fun army. Plus DC stuff does look very nice on the table.

Any help deciding (and the reasons for the choice) would be greatly appreciated.

okay here's my thoughts as to what to buy

more DC (if you look on EBAY you can buy 5 boxes for $132 great savings from GW)

lemartes (a must have)

a DC land raider redeemer (you have no idea how fun it is)

more chaplains (wheather they be termie, jump pack, or bike)

seconded on the Lemartes front. Though you could do a cool third war for Armaggedon army with DC tycho it would be fun IMO anyway and its a hell of a theme as there was some fine DC carnage at teh end of the Hades hive battle

I'm definitely thinking of adding another pod so i can get a pair of the DC dreads down on turn one.

My biggest concern is the lack of anti armour punch at present.

Another JP squad with Lemartes is tempting and at 505 points would fit but I'd only have two squads (astorath in one, plus lemartes and the pw in the other with any real capability of taking out armour). The dreads with talons are aimed at squad removal really. I would look at a standard Land Raider but it doesn't feel right to have one in the army, the crusader and possibly the redeemer fit better from a fluff point of view.

I don't really want to have too many small squads in the army (using razorbacks as transport) as even though I'd get some anti armour weapons the squads would only need a couple of casualties to become ineffective.

I second the call for more Chappys. Even if you have to retool your list completely to fit them in, the reroll to hit AND to wound they give the Death Company on the charge is well worth it! I would try to at least get one each for your large squads. Also, Lemartes is a beast, as was said, but he would need another JP squad to roll with. Keep in mind that since Lemartes isn't an independent character but an upgrade, he cannot be singled out in combat. This also means it's real easy to give him his one wound to make him Hulk out, and keep him alive until the end!

Also, for the ranged tank popping game, perhaps a couple of Razorbacks with TL-Lascannons would be good. This way, you're popping transports, and allowing your DC to mop up the survivors. Also, on the topic of tank hunting, it may be a good idea to give some of the DC dreads Blood Fists, since A- you cannot control any DC unit, so giving it the ability to pop that Land Raider it's punching is good, and B- you have plenty of infantry shredding ability as it is. And speaking of Fists, try to give most of your squads one for the same reason (Rage vs Land Raiders suuuuuucks!) It might also be good to give your DC some Infernus pistols, too (likely the only time it's good to give the DC such wargear :) ), so they can tear open metal boxes and assault the gooey center.

drop the rhinos its a waste of a turn for the dc disembarking and not being able to assault. i tool up my DC with all powerweapons and JP's sure my units cost in the 500+ range for just 10 guys. but with a chaplain in the group. things DIE and die fast. i chewed thru a 10 man unit of wolf guard in one turn with a 12 man DC 10 pwpns 1 fist one hammer. and astorath.

I run 2 DC dreads when I can, one with talons to hunt done troops and squishy things and one with blood fists for tanks and MCs. Either on foot or is drop pods they do really well. In this day and age of to many mech armies you need a lot of anti armor. Do keep in mind that your dreads have a meltagun as well too.

Well I think I've got my choice fixed now but still open to suggestions

What I'll do at 2000 points is lose the foot slogging DC dread, add another 8 man DC JP squad with Lemartes, plus upgrade one of the rhinos to a redeemer so I'll have the following:

Astorath and 8 DC JP marines

Lemartes and 8 DC JP marines

10 DC in Rhino

12 DC in Redeemer

2x DC Dread in Drop Pods

If I ever play a 2500 point game with this army then I'll add DC Tycho, Mephiston and some extra DC goodies.

More Chaplains. ALWAYS. For a DC army you actually NEED Chaplain, because without them they are not the same punch as they usually are.

A LAnd Raider is good too, also, get some Tank Killing power, Land Speeders, Predators, Baals, Infernus Pistols, etc...
