Brother Darkover
I just picked up the Codex this weekend at Games Day. Love the fluff and history and general feel of the Wolves. To begin with I'll probably be doing kill teams as I slowly build up my forces. So any tips, tricks (and by tricks I mean glorious battlefield tactics and acts of heroism) and advice will be appreciated! Jonas Stromclaw
Another whelp eh? Good. Welcome to the Fang, have an ale! So you want tips and tricks? For combat patrol? I don't play that much but when I do a Lone Wolf with frost axe and the Furious Charge USR is mandatory. One trick you might try is magnetising one or two models so you can switch out arms to try different weapon combos. Some guys really don't like this but I've got 8 bodies and about twenty three separate arms magnetised and find it very useful. Sorry I'm not much help, bring back many trophies for Russ and the Allfather! Oh, and when you do get up to full army size, two basic rules to go by. One Grey Hunter pack per 500pts, and don't lose your head on heroes. Keep 'em cheap up until the 1500-2000 point level. Brother Darkover
Tips and tricks in general I guess. Combat patrol is merely until I get more models. Also thanks for the ale! *Downs ale* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209234-new-to-the-fang/#findComment-2496363 Share on other sites
Serunox
Welcome to the Fang brother.Grab an ale and some meat.~Slides a tankard over to Darkover~ Enjoy it here I dont know to much about kill teams but as soon as you get a bigger army have some heavy support.Long fangs with a rune priest kick ass.(Not that a tank has an ass  ) And like Brother Jonas said,a grey hunter squad per 500 points. Warhorse47
Welcome to the place. For your first HQ unit go with a Rune Priest. Gray Hunters are your bread and butter [or ale and elk]. Kassill
Welcome from one Blood Claw to another! Yes, a Rune Priest and Grey Hunters are very good starting points. After that I would add Rhinos and Long Fangs with ML's. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209234-new-to-the-fang/#findComment-2496623 Share on other sites
Vash113
Welcome, have an ale young pup and don't get on the bad side of the Wolf Guard or you may find yourself tossed off the Fang with a long walk back. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209234-new-to-the-fang/#findComment-2496669 Share on other sites

hendrik
welcome pup! as everyone else allready gave you some ale i guess i'll keep tis tankard of wolfwhizz closed;) tricks and tips; instead of kill team i would avise to make a 750 points list, the reason is kill team works completly different than a normal game. as for a first HQ, i'm more a fan of a wolf priest as he atleast gives you a character to take into close combat Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209234-new-to-the-fang/#findComment-2496902 Share on other sites
Serunox
Welcome brother, and tanks so do have an ass its called the ass end of the tank :) Mmm this intruges me.Perhaps I should try and attack a tankfrom behind next time. That way I might see the ass end lol :( I agree with hendrik, try to get a 750 point army.Unless if you model your kill team models in a way that you can use them in a normal game. Brother Darkover
So basically just grab a couple of Space Wolf squad boxes and a Wolf/Rune Preist? And for the Kill Team thing I would magnetize (or at least attempt to) the different arms and do swaps Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209234-new-to-the-fang/#findComment-2497152 Share on other sites
Grimtooth
Just a buying tip. For every Space Wolves box you buy, buy a Space Marine Tactical box. This makes for 20 Grey Hunters right away, more special weapons, and starts saving up missile launchers for your Long Fangs. Warhorse47
Good suggestion on the tactical box , also, when you buy transports, get the Razorback instead of the rhino. That way you can leave the top hatch loose to use it as either one. Brother Darkover
Couldn't I just get 2 Wolf boxes instead of a Wolf box and a Tactical box? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209234-new-to-the-fang/#findComment-2498110 Share on other sites
Kassill
Couldn't I just get 2 Wolf boxes instead of a Wolf box and a Tactical box? Yes, but then you wouldnt get the ML, flamer, melta gun, and plasma gun. Kassill
and it makes them seem less massivley over killed on the tokens and trophies I actually prefer the tokens and trophies. The norm marine, unless it is a really neat paint job, seems a bit boring to me. Of course, there are enough bits that come in the Wolf pack to spruce them up, so... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209234-new-to-the-fang/#findComment-2498637 Share on other sites
