dynamicspartan
They described him a little bit in Fulgrim. Other than that I can't say. Chaplain Jacob
If I may ask, what was the description? I could never find the time to finish "Fulgrim". AbyssKnight
Characteristics ascribed to Vulkan (or extrapolated from his description) in Fulgrim would include: Wise. One of the first things they mention are that he is sought after for his wisdom. Patient. Out of the three gathered Primarchs (Corax, Ferrus, and himself) he speaks the least and urges waiting for reinforcements rather than rushing in for glory/vengence. Traditional/Superstitious. Possibly even considered Hide-bound. He shows preference for traditional methods of constructing weapons and distrust of things he doesn't understand (Ferrus hands). Valorous. Once on Istvaan, Vulkan leads the Salamander contingent from the front and can be heard (he is out of sight of Ferrus, whom the book follows) yelling war cries until somehow injuried and carried away. Details on exactly what happens to him are a mystery. The physical description is interesting as well. His armor is "sea foam," so I imagine a more blue-green than the rest of the Salamanders wear. One pauldron is a huge drake's skull, and he has a drake-scale cloak. The plates of his armor are encrusted with quartz chips, ranged from gray through pink, to make flame and smoke designs. He is described as "dusky" skinned. Definately doesn't give the impression of night-black skin or flame red eyes, but that seems a more recent ret-con anyway. He is a Primarch, so maybe the radiation doesn't affect him the same way as normal marines? I actually like the black-skin and red eyes, mind you, just saying I never thought of Vulkan that way. Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
also, from his brief appearance in Raven's Flight, at the massacre, he is shown to be unwilling to quit the fight against the traitors and planned to reinforce his current position while Corax withdrew from the fighting. I think i finally figured out sally's in terms of skin and eyes but its just a theory.... On the topic i do wonder if they will ever answer his Mysterious escape from Istvaan and his Mysterious disappearance after the heresy. I mean come on, does he have a super planet to planet teleporter on him or something? Guest
From the novel Salamander, he seems to have taught his legion compassion and to value human life above all things. He definitely seems the most humane Primarch. Culebras
From his origin story on http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Vulkan Vulkan was educated as a blacksmith, eventually surpassing his own teachers and sharing his techniques with others. This would imply both an interest in educating others and creating new objects, two things in short supply in the forty-first millennium Vulkan's home village was constantly raided by Dark eldar, but he choose to wait for them in the middle of town rather than hide or ambush them. I assume this implies a degree of stubbornness and preference for meeting is foe head on. Vulkan is said to have met the Emperor over a series of challenges, like what happened with Leman Russ. Whereas Russ bested the Emperor in challenges of eating and drinking, Vulkan tied with the emperor on tests of strength (such as anvil lifting), craftsmanship and intellect. This implies that the Emperor found Vulkan's tests more appropriate or worthy than Russ' The final, tie-breaking test was the slaying of a Salamander. During the course of events, Vulkan slew his beast but a volcanic eruption threw him off a cliff. He hung there by one hand while holding the Salamander's tail with the other, and refused to let go. This also provides evidence of a stubborn nature. The emperor then appeared with a larger salamander, which he discarded to save Vulkan' life. Though Vulkan was declared the winner, the primarch bowed his head and knelt, declaring that any man who valued Life over pride was worthy of his service. This implies that Vulkan, though proud, was also humble. It also indicates a strong respect for life and fair play, indicating an honorable nature. To Summarize: Vulkan -believed in crafting and education mirrored in a strong affection and loyalty to his people. (unlike say Ferrus) -was stubborn and preferred to meet obstacles head on and refused to yeild (much like Dorn) -believes in challenges of strength and endurance (unlike Russ who valued eating and drinking) -possesed a sense of honor or fair play -was humble enough to recognize when he was beaten -valued life more than pride Thats the way I read it Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209283-information-on-vulkans-character/#findComment-2512384 Share on other sites

Gaz1858
valued life more than pride Might explain why the Salamanders are one of the only chapters to still live with "families".
