Some Artwork I did recently in watercolour.

 

An Imperial Guard Commissar leads a group of Kasrkin against a flight of Raptors.

 

I'm no Aerion, but one day I'll be awesome in my own way (:))

Nice job man. Although in my own personal idea, It should be just a tad bit darker, you did an excellent job on the lighting. Reminds me that I need to get back to my own drawing. :P

I've always had a problem getting darks with water colour, without using black.

As with art it's always great to get comments and criticisms.

 

And an added bonus, reminding a fellow artist to practice his trade :D

Yep and now I have time to give a full critique. :wallbash:

 

Ok starting off with the Commissar, I think you did an awesome job with him, especially with the facial structure. My only two beefs with him are

 

1. His las pistol looks like it belongs to a ratling (aka its tiny)

 

2. Why's he staring at the raptors crotch...? ._.

 

 

The raptor himself is pretty nice.Im diggin those bionic feet and claws (could try to make them alittle more menacing though) but the armor seems a little... 'light hearted'? I think that would be a good term for it. To be honest the face grill seems alil wonky (kinda small) and other then the paint scheme, you couldnt really figure out that he's a night lord. Maybe replace the shoulder pad vents for a winged skull and add some scars to the armour and severed heads tied to his belt?

 

I have little to critique on the background as its pretty solid (though the background raptor could use alittle work too) except it just doesnt feel much like a battle. Need to add alittle maelstrom bro. Put some bullets and las shots flying the air, maybe an explosion.

 

Other then that though, I think you did a great job man. ;)

 

I cant wait to see more.

Yeah, I dunno. I have to disagree, I quite like the "clean" look. Not everything in 40k has to be a ZOMG MASSIVE BATTLE WITH EVERYONE SHOOTING EVERYTHING IN A TEN MILE RADIUS.

 

This picture (if you forget the connotations of the title) could be two small squads encountering each other. Any one of thousands of forgotten conflicts that happen every day. Rename it "Ambush in the Ruins" and Bob's your uncle.

A very nice picture,the only problem I see is the commisar's gun, it just looks a bit...off,almost like a las-pistol crossed with a bolt pistol. Keep up the good work!

Looking awesome man, although I think the lighting should be darker as it is more night lordy in my opinion. Other than that it looks kick-ass, really like the clean look to them, as if the war has just started or something

Firstly, thank you all for comments and criticisms.

 

I've taken them all into consideration and I've put a few of them into effect.

 

Firstly I changed the name of the piece: Amubush in the ruins it is! (Thanks juckto)

I changed the Commissars sword arm so that the foreshortening works better.

I've darkened the entire image to get a more gritty feel from it.

And there are some other minor changes.

 

Sadly my baby lasgun is beyond changing at this juncture ;)

I think it's great now mate (minus the baby laspistol!) I really love the stark contrast on the raptor's armour
