Daemon Princes

I thought it best to place this topic into "x LIBER MALEFICORUM x" as I plan to do three Daemon Princes to represent three of the Chaos Legions (EC, WE, TS), and did not want to post this in to three different subforums, so felt the Daemon related one would fit this the best.

Any way, I ought to get onto the topic at hand, as I am planning a big project, and I mean big!

The plan is thus:

to purchase and construct 3 daemon princes, one from the Emperor's Children, another from the World Eaters and the third from the Thousand Sons, which will all become part of a diorama project I plan to construct for a certain event in 2011 (I prefer to keep some secrecy on the project).

Anyway, this topic is not so much about the Daemon models themselves (as the final model designs will not be revealed until the time is right). This topic is infact to talk about the colour schemes I want to use on them, namely their Legion's pre-heresy colour schemes.

Now I realise that literally all their respective "Brethren" (and I use the term loosely here) have completely succumbed to Chaos and altered their armour colour scheme to distance themselves from their Imperial past, and to show loyalty to their current patrons.

However, I got to thinking, what if somewhere out there, there are one or two Daemon Princes, who, due to making a pact with the Chaos Gods early on in the Heresy, or at least midway during it, became Daemon Princes before the legions escaped into the Warp. What if there were a couple of Daemon Princes whose armour still bore the colours of their pre-heresy armour.

Now I realise this is a long shot, but I think this will make for an interesting image on the scene itself, 3 Daemon Princes who have been unable to distance themselves from their past, making them all the more bitter and twisted towards the Imperium for it.

What if it were a pact with their respective gods that their armour will only change to their legion's current scheme once they have completed some hideous and disturbing task in the name of Chaos, the effect of which drives them all the more into a furious frenzy of bloodshed and deceit?

This is only a hypothetical question mind you; I have not seen any source material that says that this is actually the case; well I have yet to come across any relevant material that relates to this idea of mine. So if you have any thoughts or ideas on the matter, please do let me know, as I'd like to make this project a reality, and therefore be able to create something different, intriguing and possibly even a talking point.

On a final note in relation to the diorama, for contrast and size scale I plan for the scene to include a daemonic or possessed sorcerer, a sort of mentor come slaver who controls the princes in their quest and for that I was thinking of using the Changeling, as if deceiving the three DP's that the gods would keep their bargain, thus keeping them enslaved to the will of Chaos forever (however this is only an early idea, it is possible this will change by the time I reveal the finished project).

This is as much information about the project I will reveal for the time being, the remainder of the project is to be kept under wraps until I feel the time is right to make a further topic related to this. Still do let me know what you think of the basic idea (as shown above) as I'd love to hear any input on the project.

I think that this is a very cool idea. I think that if you pull it off well, painting posing etc then it could be a fantastic entry in whatever event you speak of. As for the idea of the minder being the changeling, this is a great idea. In addition, the reasoning behind your color choices is solid IMO.

Looking forward to seeing this at some point.

Almost forgot to ask though, why no Nurgle love?

TOPIC UPDATE

Ok so I visited my local branch of GW recently and have ordered all the bits I need for the project.

However, I have decided to change the main brief of the project. Instead of three daemon princes, I've decided to go for the full compliment and have four daemon princes.

The plan is therefore now to have them standing in a strategic position, holding aloft a cauldron (This will be a couldron from one of the Fantasy Ogre Kingdom kits) with the Changling rising up from said cauldron.

I have also decided to drop the pre-heresy colour schemes and have them in the colours of Renegade Chapters (my own personal chapter will be one of them).

More details and project images to follow soon.

TOPIC UPDATE

First off I am unable to show you the project in photographic form, as my order from GW hasn't arrived yet.

Any how I realise I said that in my previous topic post (the last update) that I would be dropping the pre-heresy scheme and going for Renegades. Well I'm afraid I've changed my mind once more, and have decided to stick with the Pre-heresy scheme.

I feel this is an opportunity not to be missed what with the interest in the Horus Heresy at it's peak at the moment (thank you GW for giving us such inspirational novels and resource books) and therefore I hope this to be a popular option when it comes to my ideas.

As you may or may not know I am also currently in the planning stages of how I am going to position and mount the models, though this is still very much in the theoretical side of the project as not yet having the kits I need I cannot fully comprehend the project in it's entirety.

If you are not certain of what the colour schemes are to be based upon (though these will be slightly differing in appearence due to being on daemonic models), I have posted some links below to images that show the scheme in their entirity:

PRE-HERESY WORLD EATERS: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/File:PreHeresyWorldeater.jpg

PRE-HERESY EMPEROR'S CHILDREN: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/File:Emper...enPreheresy.jpg

PRE-HERESY THOUSAND SONS: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/File:Pre_H...Sons_Marine.jpg

Though as stated before, the painting scheme I intend to work on will not completely adhere to the images, these are merely guides and do not reflect upon the intended stylesof the model that I aim to achieve once completed.
