BrotherMoses
Does anyone still use the old Death Company models? I know the new kit is pretty sweet so I want to know if anyone still uses them. If you still use them tell us about their history, why you like them, and maybe post a picture up. Remember the fallen!
JamesI
My DC are still the old metal DC. I use them because I was given 15 for free, bought them jump packs and used them for years. They are my DC (I also made a BA captain and two of my RAS meltagunners are made from the old DC) The new DC are awesome, but I used the figures to make Veterans rather than more DC. Dark Legionnare
I've got the old school ones, still use them every battle. I came across a white-primed one in my closet last year, don't know if it's new or old, or where the hell it even came from. But here they are, the five olds one at least, back when the sergeant got his oh so fancy powersword. They've seen hundreds of battle, and only had the backpack fall off one when he got backhanded by my opponent, by accident. They're strong models, solid metal models are always a pain to assemble, but tough as nails. As for stories, just recently they annihilated 3 Grey Hunter squads in one battle, single handedly. And way back when I started my army again I played against my friend's IG. They slaughtered and consolidated into 5 squads of guardsmen, and 3 lascannon teams. They got slaughtered by the two battle cannons soon after though, not being able to hide in CC being their weakness to big guns. Brother Theophantus
Indeed, I still use both the old DC models and even the old old ones. The really old ones I keep for sentimental value and the slightly less old ones serve as a reminder not to be lazy as I ended up painting them the night before a tournie and they look like the work of a five year old. Volcatus
I bought the original Death Company box when it was released many moons ago. I recently repainted the Chaplain from that box as my Reclusiarch. Here he is with a new DC next to him: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs140.snc4/37319_125838820788844_100000881795055_124470_2782957_n.jpg The DC MkI models, I made into a RAS. Since 9 came in the box, they needed a Sarge, so I used the old Sarge from the BA Devastators box. They look good and are on the table every game I play. I'll post some pics when they are suitable for showing off.
evileyevirtue
I remember that chaplain model... made me want to play BA in the first place. I (sadly) don't have any more of the older models around anymore...
Jakobus
My old metal DC have retasked and are now scattered through my Assault Squads. I have the Chaplain too, I should play him more but I have him done up with a Jump pack
jeremy1391
I love that old metal chaplain .... It is my favorite old model which makes me feel all warm and fuzzy thinking of that old model.
Exonec
Hi there! Greetings from a new member from Sweden! I played Blood Angels about 12 years ago and has recently returned to them (came back a couple of months before the codex came!). I have those old metal models and I have some thoughts of making them into vanguards, they have quite awesome Blood Angels iconography on them. I have that old metal chaplain aswell, I like him alot but don't fancy the old-style bolter (sorry...).
Morollan
All my olds metal DC models have been stripped and are in the process of being repainted as Assault Squads. I also picked up a bunch of them on ebay really cheaply so I now have enough for 1 JP squad and 2 foot squads.
Emperors Immortals
I have about 25 of the old ones that came in the box with the above chaplain - i still love that guy. There still painted as DC and i use them alll the time as DC, im in the process right now of getting the new DC models to use as VV and the SG to use as HG. Last battle i played, the DC (5 with 2 power weapons podded into teh enemy lines) absorbed 70-odd fire warrior shots and kroot shots and lost one man before engaging the 3 units in CC and slaughtering them.Next phase theres 3 DC left and they charge the crises suits who then obligingly turned into a red mist. I love the DC and play them every game :tu:
Kurb
My old metal DC have retasked and are now scattered through my Assault Squads. Same here. They add some different faces.
IronKobra
I still have LOTS of the old style DC...and about 15 or so of the even older ones! I think 15 os each varient. The 15 original models with the chaplain are armed with the OLD style CC sprues, which used to include hand flamers and power axes and swords. 10 of my newer metal ones, the 3rd Edition versions are all equipped with Dante style pewter jump packs and again the old style CC weapons. I converted each model to fit in with my 2nd Edition army where Dc could take any weapon they wanted. So were heavily kitted for close combat. I even painted up a DC Landraider back in the day! That squad may well be stripped and made into assault vets. I am undecided as of yet. The paint job was basic to say the least but they looked ok on a table. And I have another 5 on the newer ones equipped just as they were in the box. Foot slogging and bolt poistol and chainsword...and the pewter power sword. I still really like the models to be fair. I am yet to buy a whole box of the new DC, but I have gotten a hold of many of the cooler new bits like the thunder hammer and some of the chainswords. Corby
I still use the old metal ones. Better than the new plastic ones in my opinion.
Brother Jim
I've got a mix of the first and second generation metal DC models in my squad, lead by the old Chaplain that came with the original DC box set. I love those old models! I've also used them to make my veteran assault squad.
garfey
Ahh fond memories - I have the original DC box set (the one I got with my boxed BA army in about '94)! I have stripped them (those of them I could ever be bothered to paint) and am going to add the new Bolter arms to them and field them as foot slogging DC - still got the original chappy too and my old school all metal assault squad, devestators, a BA tactical sgt and the original BA dreadnought, though he's missing his lower left leg. It's good to mix the old with the new in my opinion, adds some uniqueness to your army.
Oloff Hammeraxe
I really like the old metal DC models. Actually, the very first set of minis I ever got was the old school 2nd ed. DC box, with the Chaplain and 9 DC. I still have 7 of the DC, as well as the Chappy, and I've promoted 6 of them to make my Vanguard Vets, and another as my Tac Sarge. The Crozius broke off my Chappy, so I need to make or find a replacement before I can use him for anything more than a proxy. I've been able to salvage many of the old school weapons, too, so I have the three old Power Fists (probably my favorite Fist out of the bunch, too. The damn thing's huuuge), an old school power sword, and a ton of boxy bolt pistols. Damn shame I wasn't able to find any of the old hand flamers, as they're now usable again. The 3rd ed Death Company are still my Death Company. Personally, I like them for Death Company more than the new DC. The new models are frigging AMAZING, mind you, but they're too ornate for DC in my opinion. I use the new plastic models for officers, or to scatter shiny things around my squads. Ebay, luckily, seems to have a steady supply of 2nd and 3rd ed metal DC models for a good price, so once I get some cash to throw around, I'm gonna use the same model sets to get some more for their respective squads. Brother Nathan
Somebody on another forum bought a bunch of suff of ebay and came across 4 oldschool deathcompany. because he plays smurfs he didnt want to damage stuff that others (ie me) would love he ent me a message (being the long time angel lover i am)offering to tade. so yea i managed to get my hands on 4 of them and they are great and are working well with the rest of my minis. only 1 has joined the dc, another has joined my sternguad, another a tactical and the last my razor assault squad and they look great compared o the rest of the units as i like all my models slightly different so it all works. only thing i dislike is the seem to have shallow boots compared to the new guys. not tha anyone who hasnt painted them would notice... tahrikmili
I use 10 with tactical space marine bolter arms and bolters, 2 with Power Fists. I use them because I have a lot of them. And they look really good anyway.
GlauG
I have 8 metal DC I've stripped and am in the process of repainting... They'll be my DC on foot, as opposed to my newer ones, who will be full-timing as Jump Pack DC, I think.
Midnightmare
Yup. my DC are a mix of old and new. I find the new ones too ornate so tone them down with standard marine bitz:- http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh190/MidnightRunner81/SDC10719.jpg (Marine in centre, and one on the right) And sprinkle others through my other squads, I feel they mix in well:- http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh190/MidnightRunner81/2-1.jpg (Marine in centre, and head on the flamer guy) http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh190/MidnightRunner81/SDC10505.jpg (Marine on right) I find the very old ones a bit small, but will still use them me thinks, just stood on rocks? I bought them when I was 14yrs old (28 now!) so there for sentimental reasons after a long hiatus. Anyway, enough pict whoring from me, I have a WIP thread for this..... :) ;)
Redo
I bought the original Death Company box when it was released many moons ago. This fantstic model along with my awesome old school DC are all equipped with jump packs and beacuse of the new codex with rage and the prohibitive cost of jump packs these fine models are relegated to the big army case, like treasures in a chest. Oh well it was also an excuse to get some of the new DC models and mount them on foot. Perhaps that is what GW wanted from the start...
Chaplain Gunzhard
My original Death Company models (2nd edition) have been recommissioned as Sergeants and look the role perfectly... but the 3rd edition variety are still my main 'Jumppack' Death Company, that I sadly only use in huge games. My 'new', plastic DC are either marching with bolters or in razorback.
