viktorslama
This is the very first batch of minis I've painted, and as such, I am looking for harsh (constructive) criticism. This assault squad is the very first I painted. http://gallery.me.com/viktorslama/100032/DSCF9100/web.jpg?ver=12829080530001 http://gallery.me.com/viktorslama/100032/DSCF9101/web.jpg?ver=12829081390001 Followed by them: http://gallery.me.com/viktorslama/100032/DSCF9105/web.jpg?ver=12829083300001 http://gallery.me.com/viktorslama/100032/DSCF9106/web.jpg?ver=12829083620001 http://gallery.me.com/viktorslama/100032/DSCF9108/web.jpg?ver=12829084180001 http://gallery.me.com/viktorslama/100032/DSCF9112/web.jpg?ver=12829084490001 http://gallery.me.com/viktorslama/100032/DSCF9118/web.jpg?ver=12829086140001 And the Terminator Captain: http://gallery.me.com/viktorslama/100032/DSCF9109/web.jpg?ver=12829084340001 http://gallery.me.com/viktorslama/100032/DSCF9117/web.jpg?ver=12829085900001 And two group shots: http://gallery.me.com/viktorslama/100032/DSCF9115/web.jpg?ver=12829084950001 http://gallery.me.com/viktorslama/100032/DSCF9116/web.jpg?ver=12829085180001 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209419-blood-ravens/ Share on other sites
AngryJohnny
They look pretty good - first batch or not. I would suggest giving the red & the bone a wash to give it a little depth. Also, what's wit the blue splotches on some of the marines & the blue leg on the captain? viktorslama
Thanks. I've thought about giving them small "ranks" of psyker powers, seeing as psykers are unusually common in BRs. As for the captain, I like to think of him as a "semi-librarian" (useful for proxying, for now), nad as such, he'd be meditating before battles, either for combat prowess (as a normal captain) or a libby. As for the washes, they don't quite show up in the pictures. They're a bit darker actually :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209419-blood-ravens/#findComment-2498342 Share on other sites
S. Bloodhowl
Looks great, though I'm not too sure about the blue myself, doesn't seem to go well with the red but that's jus me. I suugest giving the entire model a light or medium wash of Devlan Mud to add depth to the armour Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209419-blood-ravens/#findComment-2498511 Share on other sites
Validar
great looking Ravens! I'd put more gold on the Captain, to make him more venerable-veteran ish And I'd paint the studs on the studded armor Otherwise, good looking! Phosis
Hello Brother. First off, I am sad to see that you haven't embraced your true heritage, and you that still bear the colors of the cursed "Imperium". Shame. Maybe one day Ahriman will convince you. Second, Your stuff looks good- it is all uniform (a BIG deal for me, regardless of painting 'skills' anyone has), and you take great pride in the little bits on your space marines. This shows that you put more effort into it, so kudos. I would suggest taking a tiny tiny speck of skull white and putting it into the center of their helmet eye ports. This, coupled with a wash, would make your minis stand out, and you can even dry brush some scorpion green around the eyes for an easily achievable makeshift light source. Tiny details are what sets you apart, and you can develop your own skills and painting style as you go along. Let your imagination take over and the adjustments will come soon. Moldlinesmoldlinesmoldlines ahhhhhhhhhh Keep it up, and I want to see more stuff from you soon Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209419-blood-ravens/#findComment-2499403 Share on other sites
viktorslama
Thanks, all of you! *frantically scribbles notes down* @Phosis: Well, perhaps I'm secretly on my way, what with "borrowing" of different items and non-codex-y coloring of the captain (Wolf TH and "libby" blue leg armor). @Validar: I never liked gold on red, I tried it, but painted silver on top. I've left a little gold showing on the angel on the leg armor though. @S. Bloodhowl: I'm really scared that the wash will make them even dirtier. This "dirt" somehow didn't show in the camera, I think it's because it was sunny outside :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209419-blood-ravens/#findComment-2499457 Share on other sites
S. Bloodhowl
If you are scared to try it on a fully painted mini then you could always do this. Find a spare arm & shoulder pad and/or chest plate, and paint it up as you woul normally then experiment with the ink wash on that. I recommend these pieces as they have both red and bone on them. Hope you find this useful Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209419-blood-ravens/#findComment-2499472 Share on other sites
