Corton
I will be building a Dark Angels army for our local shop's Iron Builder. As I progress starting in September I will post my models and progress. This is where you all come into play; given that I actually want to stomp the reigning champion this year into oblivion (had to drop out of the last one, or I probably would have won) what should I take. I haven't played the Dark Angels since the heady days of Hero-hammer (second edition for you noobs), so I am out of practice. What combinations work well? Any feedback or pointers will help immensly. pueriexdeus
In case you haven't noticed it Hero Hammer is alive an well in 5th Ed. The Deathraven synergy is what most players use nowdays as a playable winner against most other 5th Ed Armies. Grey Mage
Hero-Hammer is only as viable as you let it be... few Characters have the ability to take any concentrated fire, and I cant tell you how many times Belial has survived just long enough to kill of one of my HQs. Grr..... Still, Death Wing/Ravenwing combo is strong, and alot of fun to play from what Ive seen. Corton
That's all fine and dandy, but what about their power armoured brethern? Are they no longer viable? Bringer of Redemption
The battle companies are still useful, but are generally best left in a support position--the main punch should be coming from your terminators, bikes, or both. It's not uncommon to see a mix of two of the three or all three on the field, but a battle company on it's own is significantly weaker than other options in our codex. --BoR Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209445-dark-angels-in-an-iron-builder-ftw/#findComment-2499057 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
That's all fine and dandy, but what about their power armoured brethern? Are they no longer viable? They are, but if theyre not part of a larger whole youll be at a disadvantage. One thing they can do very well is razorback spam lists, but that only is viable up to a certain point level. IanSturrock
DA can do razorback spam, but not very effectively. We're paying more per razorback + squad than either space marines or space wolves, *and* we can't get the las/plas razorback (unless the tourney allows Imperial Armour units). I think our strongest option right now is Ravenwing. Take Sammael as the HQ (speeder or bike, your choice). Add as many 3-man bike squad + multimelta attack bikes as you can fit in. Give the 1st squad dual plasma guns and an apothecary, then 2nd squad dual flamers, 3rd squad dual flamers, 4th squad probably dual plasma again... maybe consider some more melta if you get up to a 5th squad, but really the attack bikes should give you most of your melta. If you've points left over, consider power weapons on sergeants (in the flamer squads), or speeders (Typhoon + Heavy Bolter is probably our best option, though the multimelta/heavy flamer speeder is good too). Isiah
DA can do razorback spam, but not very effectively. We're paying more per razorback + squad than either space marines or space wolves, *and* we can't get the las/plas razorback (unless the tourney allows Imperial Armour units). We do get the useful assault weapon on our 5-man only squads though.
