arisen
I'm looking for opinions on this very old-school color scheme for my space wolves. Too bright, or just right? :P (I know it's a codex marine model, but it's just for testing purposes ;) ) http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/9086/img0850b.jpg http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/8877/img0847.jpg http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/9117/img0848ee.jpg http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/6825/img0849q.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209468-space-puppy-in-baby-blue/ Share on other sites
Lysimachus
I like the old school style but I wonder if it is a tad bright? Perhaps a wash to tone it down just a touch, or maybe an edge highlight of SW grey or something? arisen
Update: I've added a watered-down badab black wash for a little blacklining as a tip from a fellow painter. Maybe it's a little less monotonous this way? http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/6213/img0857l.jpg http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/1811/img0858z.jpg http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/9615/img0859hh.jpg http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/4479/img0860tm.jpg http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/7711/img0861b.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209468-space-puppy-in-baby-blue/#findComment-2498894 Share on other sites
blackbabyjesus
looks better with the wash, though you really need to thin your paints! I can see brush strokes on that model, perhaps he's an overpaint which would explain it, but adding a little water to the paint really does make the whole thing look better :D Oh, and there's nothing wrong with baby blue SW, there's too much grimdark in the 41st millennium! Obliterator
Looks way better with the wash. As BBJ says, there's nothing wrong with a brightly colored Space Wolf. Makes it look... old school ;) Are you starting Space Wolves too now? Emperor's shiny toilet, we'll need lots of 'paint and play' tournaments in the near future to actually finish all the armies we're starting ^_^ ! arisen
he's indeed an overpaint from an earlier space wolf test-paint model which was far too dark for my liking after staring at it for over a month which was already an overpaint of some chapter I don't remember :P Why waste more models for testing when you can do it on a single one? I've got a custom chapter marine that I test-painted before starting out with space wolves that was a dark angel, then an ultramarine, then a crimson fist, and then finally the test-paint of a purple power armoured marine. I like testing schemes, but I don't like using a lot of models for them ;) The paint on the actual space wolf models will be a lot thinner ;) Now that I've got the scheme down, and approval from others, I can start painting in earnest once the last couple of guardsmen (and their vehicles) roll off the painting production line. @ Obliterator; I don't think I'll be doing another paint & battle competition with the wolves. It's just too short of a time for painting when you really want to do everything right, although I don't really regret taking my IG (and ending up as the only horde player in the competition): at least now they're almost finished :P . I'm branching out from Cadia: the closest thing under imperial control is Fenris, hence space wolves. Well, that and the fact that they're the only marines that have ale while using pages from Guilliman's codex to keep the fires going in the feasting halls. Actually, it's more the second, and I got hugely inspired by the space wolves books; I don't think you'll see a marine from another chapter farting inside the small passenger compartment of a shuttle when it's filled to the brim with marines :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209468-space-puppy-in-baby-blue/#findComment-2499226 Share on other sites

Corton
Why am I suddenly reminded of TSOALR? With a little highlighting it's not so bad. The wash did add some much needed depth to the model, and a little clean-up will make it look that much better. Pretty good for a tester model.
