[AH] the deathwatch

HI ive done a fair bit of research into the DW initially wanting to do a fighting force of them just never got around to it (as of yet) so here is what i know/think i know :thanks:

Chaplins have never been mentioned in any of the resource material i have read concerning the deathwatch, they arn't "leaders" as such. DW kill teams are lead by a captain or librarian usually tho they are requested by an inquisitor of the Ordo xenos and could be lead in a story or even on the table by them.

To disagree with an earlier point Inquisitors do belong to a specific ordo they do not belong to 2 however inquisitors are not black and white ie an xenos inquisitor would not suddenly stop an investigation if deamons started getting involved (though he prob should consult an ordo malleus inqusitor)

In regards to your specific questions

10) Perfectly acceptable, kill teams can be created to achieve specific tasks or missions and then disbanded or could work as a team for many years. There is no reason why your story could not focus on the very initial meeting and there is nothign to say that all members of a team would have had to of fought together before..

8) I'd settle for brother (brother-captain or brother-librarian for superiors) But have read that troopers refer to each other with nick names in at least one short story. Rules being a bit more relaxed for them as it is with many spec ops groups in real life.

If I remember right, one of the deathwatch books had a marine with a jump pack.

One story did, the Mantis Warriors were helping out during A Nid invasion. ( something along those lines).

Also DW killteams are given special bolters with silencers and ammunition by the Inquisition.

allright guys, thanks for all the responses. but what about the characters.

to remind you

Captain Amnito Kardos (death spectres) (permanently attached)

Matteo Petros (crimson fists) (headstrong?)

Adeon Valdictus (black templars) (a little bit over zealous ((even for the BT))

Marius Xynx (blood angels) (rival of Arca Khiron)

Draco Lithonius (salamanders) (may carry a heavy flamer LotD style)

Octavian Paidar (ultramarines) (second in command, very by the book)

Vladimir Raziel (dark angels) (apothecary)

Arca Khiron (flesh tearers) (rival of Marius Xynx)

allright guys, thanks for all the responses. but what about the characters.
What about them? You've summed them up in a line and suggested chapter stereotypes. They feel kind of flat to me. It's up to your talent as a story teller to bring them alive. So stop consulting, and start writing.

Regarding the question about jump packs in the death watch, go for it. In the new fantasy Flight RPG the Death Watch can use jump packs, Terminator armour and scout armour.

Concerning the chapter contributions to the DW, in the short story "Orphans of the Kraken", the Sythes of the Emperor chapter send 40-42 of their greatest warriors to the DW. Even though the chapter numbered barely 100 brothers at the time.

PS. no DW team is complete with out a RG member ;)

In the Deathwatch RPG, the marines are often issued weapons according to mission type and danger. However, some items are kept by the PCs for example the Power Armor and certain guns.

Also, Deathwatch Dreds would apperently be playble in later editions...

My Red Scorpions Devestator will hopefully almost-die horribly...

  • 2 weeks later...

Items that are common:

The funky deathwatch Bolters with targeters.

Heavy Bolter with assault rig... move and fire 18 inch range IIRC were the tabletop rules.

Several different Bolter Ammo types available. A sniper round with longer range (30 inch IIRC)

Hellfire rounds?

And one other that I dont remember.
