Kassill
OK, so an Airbrush noob here looking for some advice from the experts. I am looking to start with Airbrushing and I have like no idea what I am doing. All I know is that Iwata's are good, and I will probably be getting the Iwata HP-CS. I know I also need a compressor of some sort and a hose, but after that I have no idea what else. Any recommendations on a descent compressor and hose would be great. Also, any thing else I might need that isn't included with the airbrush or other things. Thanks all. ::EDIT:: Also, is this a good deal? http://www.amazon.com/IWATA-HP-CS-Eclipse-...x/dp/B001BO4X8Y Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/209559-airbrush-noob/ Share on other sites
winterdyne
You need a moisture trap and output (flow) pressure regulator. A lot of compressors come with these, but it's worth checking. After that you need the right paints and mediums - for citadel / VMC paints I use water (boiled) and a little acrylic flow improver. Tamiya paints and tamiya thinner are good. For cleaning the airbrush cellulose thinner is good. Also make sure you're not using fluffy tissue (toilet roll is not great) - use handkerchief / napkin style tissue, it drops less fibres. GumbaFish
Unless there is some reason you can't get a different package deal I'd probably shy away from that just because it has all of those createx paints, which you won't be using to paint miniatures. If you could find a similar bundle that didn't include the paints for less then I would consider getting that. Without looking at the kit here are some other things you might want to make sure you have (whether included in the kit or bought separately), or at least I would highly recommend. -Airbrush cleaner (I use Iwata but I am sure others probably work just fine) -Set of airbrush cleaning bruses, they look like small pipe cleaners -Some small clear cups to mix paints in -Teflon tape (for wrapping around the fittings you might need to screw together, like the moisture trap to the compressor or a quick disconnect to your hose) -I found the little airbrush cleaning stations to be helpful, because they also have a holder. Otherwise if you don't have a holder you can't set down the airbrush while working. (like this http://cdn.dickblick.com/items/269/78/26978-1001-1ww-s.jpg ) -maybe an eyedropper for measuring paint ammounts -Most importantly, patience and the willingness to fail and try again.
