The Sanguinor's Angelic Host

VAGABOND

Recommended Posts

Alright folks, haven't posted any pictures of my Sanguinary Guard Army so decided to borrow my girlfriends mobile phone and take some to share with you guys.

I'm loving these guys at the moment, after falling in love with the models and background I just had to have an army of them.

Bought this army a month and a half ago and have been painting them up and only just finished them last night. The only minis that aren't finished yet are the Sanguinary High Priests and Dante's Squad Chapter Banner.

Hope you like them as I've put alot of money and time into these guys to make them look good on the tabletop.

I don't mean they aren't attached to the body strongly. I mean that they aren't anatomically correct.

Not to be an ass Drudge but do you know many Bipedal creatures with wings? Its a fantasy world the wings could be attached to his Buttocks and it could be easily explained...

I mean Space Marine's are 7" and like 4" wide and weight 300-400lbs... yet the Catachan Imperial Guard force have larger muscles than the Astartes but their stats show nothing.

Anyway I don't really like the Sanguinator, I prefer the angellic look of the mini, and its head seems a bit off, but with conversions you are going to get some people who love them and some who don't.

I do however love your Dante, and how you painted his wings... mind sharing how you did that?

Im afraid I have to be brutally honest and concur that the Sanquinor is a bit...off. The tiny head cocked to one side is a particular oddity that I cant help but stare at. It's just that the Sang guard armor is ornate and decorated from top to bottom, while the Nightbringer model is a big naked man without a hint of detail, except for the two slapped on shoulders and his tiny masked head. If there were a few blood drops and wings slapped across the rest of his nakedness it might blend a bit better.

Nit picking aside, the sang guard and Dante look great from what i can see through the camera haze ;) . As said, the wings seem to be of particularly high quality. Bravo.

@TrentL: Ostrich, Penguin, Emu, Cardinal, Bluejay, Dove, Chicken, Parrot, and my personal favorite, Cockatoo. Bipedal just means two legs, I believe you were going for "humanoid" or something to that effect :tu: But if you can find a creature with wings sprouting from its buttocks the Cockatoo might be knocked down a peg on my favorites list!

Yes I did mean humanoid :P But you got the idea :)

TrentL - The head is perfect the way it is, I spent a good hour or so adjusting it and making sure it sat the way I liked it.

All of the wings in this army were done the same way.

Started with Vallejo Pale Sand, washed with GW Sepia and drybrushed using GW Skull White.

Firepower - Unfortunately my modelling skills aren't amazing and I rarely do much sculpting so i didn't wanna try adding blooddrops to his armour incase I messed it up. I did consider adding a small sword to his wait but it seemed too big and as far as the head is concerned. The size is fine and was the better option of what I originally wanted to do. As for the 2 ''slapped'' on shoulder pads, these were the most appropiate looking pads I had on hand to work with.

Vagabond those mini's are SUPERB!!

Now own up how many curses did U utter assembling the Sang. guard?? I only put one squad together and was turning the air a nice shade of Regal Blue.

Who cares about how things look it's a damn fine model and I'm envious of Ur obvious skill and patience.

Regards

An escapee from Larkhall!! :D

It seems you aren't one for constructive criticism. I really likie all your models you should be very proud of them. The only exception is I agree with some of the others that your interpretation of the sanguinor (not sanguniator, how many people can't read?) is a little off. The wings are a little too low and join together, look at all other angel miniatures in any range and the wings dont joing in the middle, they should be a little higher as well. Also the head is just too small for that body, those heads were designed for models half the size of the deciever. Other than that I think you have created some beautiful models.

No you see that's the thing I lwelcome criticism as it helps me improve on future projects. But it's the nitpicking at the slight wee thing, the wings are slightly lower down on his back mainly because I didn't have much room to work with and I didn't want the wings sticking out too far on the back due to transporting reasons.

Yeah I understand that, but in person it looks perfectly fine and some friends mentioned to me today that the head was a good fit and it could be the quality of the picture that makes it look a little off.

You just can't please everyone on here, can you.

Anyway guys thanks for the comments ^_^

What he said

THe sanguinor looks very... odd. Great concept, just didn't pan out too well. His heads disproportunate and the wings look too low. The rest looks great tho!

Just want to say, I think this is the best looking SG Host I have ever seen, keep up the good work!

I think from the front Sanguinor's wings look good, I cant tell with the back shot, but the only comment is if the wings protrude from the back or are blended into the shoulders, eather way, looks sharp.

i likes it. Anatomically the wings should roughly be attached where the shoulderblades are as thats how it appears in any angelic pictres ive ever seen. But then again the ctan is a pain to get wings to stick too, i made mine out of the night bringer, and it isnt helped by his robes being in the way etc wonder do ihave pics ( no that im 100% hapy with him yet...)

Edit pics of my night bringer one thats noowhere near finished, and this was it months ago...

I just wanted to make sure you didn't misunderstand, like I said when you convert something to make it your own, you can't please everyone, because everyone has a view of what the model should be.

I think you took a model, made it your own, and put some risk in there too going away from the "norm" conversion of using Sanguinary Guard bits to make him a bit bigger.

I love that you made him yours, and its awesome that you like it! (Not that my opinion matters mind you)

Thanks so much for sharing your wings, it seems an easy way to do them, if I could find a place around here that sells Vallejo paints

I just started building my SG and I really wanted to be able to switch out the left arm for different guns (I'm a magnet whore) so I'm not 100% pleased with how mine all worked out, I'll try and get a picture of mine up so you can nit pick mine hehehe.

Hope you didn't take anything person I didn't mean it that way.
