Steel Dragons

well. hello there, for quite a while (iam slow) ive been working on my army, the steel dragons, the basic idea is, that they are a spacemarine chapter that was tightly tied onto a larger group of mechanicus, when the mechanicus turned renegade (not chaos, just forbidden technology, such as xeno, arcane, alittle bit of daemonology, etc) the chapter followed, as it was the chapter master, Addonnar, who started the quest for dark-technology

so, onto the interesting part;

ill be running these guys as C:CSM, using quite abit of count-as...

the models is mainly made of old bits and technicaly useless models laying around, so to make things harder, this is just as much necromancy as it is construction...

(sorry for horrible pics in advance, but all i got is a phone-cam -.-... also, NOTHING is painted yet, all you see here is the old paint left on the parts iam using)

first off, we have the (very) WIP heavy-tacticals, aka, plaguemarines

heres one tagged-momentarely together:

as you can see, iam making true-scale marines... ill be making the bodies/legs alone, then casting them in greenstuff, further converting/reposing from there, and add termie-arms, powerpacks, and heads... also, ill be making an apothecary to represent the FNP... the 4(5)T comes from the experimental PA-pattern and underlaying bionics

next up is my early progress arch-magos, he will be a DP with wings (the huge jump pack) and MoT (hes made of METAL... he really needs improved armor...), also, it seems iam adding warp-time to the mix...

the thing is though, ive only made the rough torso so far, i still need to figure out his legs and arms, anyho:

last but definetly not least, is my defiler, with double CCW... hes made using ancient defiler and dreadnought parts, not to mention a single softgun ball, and some old cut-to-pieces writing tools, and ofcourse a tomb-spyder head:P... i plan on making him two huge arm-blades, al'a the FW blood-slaughterer from plasticard, iam just not sure how to make the rest of the arms yet, though... and neither the feet :tu: :

the color scheme will be black armor with scorpion-green parts and gubbins. silvery metal, and trim to match... atleast thats the basic idea ;)

ill update with a pic of the chapter-badge and alittle concept-art once i get my scanner up and running

C&C welcomm'd with open arms

thanks you very much... the defiler still needs alot of work, really... and for the color scheme, ive painted up a few regular marines more or less this way, before deciding to go truescale, and the black/green/silver works really well together, i would like to take some sample-pics, but due to sucky camara, that would not really do any good

Could you tell me how you did the green stuffing on the torsos? I want to make a Master of the Forge with similar armour on his midriff.

well, the 3 variants are made mainly the same way. i took a random SM torso, cut away the belt, and stuck it onto a pair of termie-legs (also with the belt removed) you then fill over the details inbetween, basicly making one surface from the termie's crotch, up over the torso power-cables (also cut off) and back, so it goes down just "under" the original chest-armor. after that, you take a fat little sausage of greenstuff, put it horisontally onto the chest, and simply start pushing it into shape, going around the torso, , making the armor generally bigger, and shaping the basic form of the chest-armor the way you want it... however, be carefull not to make the chest any wider (you want the arms to sit as close as on a normal marine)... when the greenstuff is dry. you then sculpt the "belly plates" (what you wanna do is make them more or less like tyranid carapace). when the plates is dry, make the belt (personally what i find the hardest part xD). and you should have a basic toso like theese... i hope this was the help you wanted^^'

The belly plates is more or less what I'm planning on stealing off thee- I kinda need to post a picture of my WIP terminators to give you a proper picture, but basically I want to make the segmented armour for the MOTF look like how you've made yours without being one huge slanted mess. Did you use one piece of greenstuff and segment it or use three pieces and place on on top of the other (and so on)?

ohh... sorry bout that. well...

well, what i did was to add a blob of greenstuff, then pressing it out, before cutting away the exces at the sides, leaving me with roughly the shape of the whole deal, then, i just took the knife-ish end of the sculpting tool and presses out the segments carefully... this will mess up the clean edges at the sides, so you will need to very carefully cut that into place, again. then neaten up where neccesary, let the whole deal dry, and voila... segmented armor ;)

might take a try or two to get the technique right, but its actually a fairly easy deal

UPDATE! WUU!

well. got alot of tinkering done on the topic of rhinos... many agree that rhinos are too small as it is. so with a truescale army, they are just silly. also i am on a very tight budget, so... i decided to do my first scratchbuild. so a late night, i sat down and drew this:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff59/bobo2605/scan0001-1.jpg

this is the 1:1 design (note the 1:1 TS-marine in the corner) of my custom pattern rhino, as you can see, its a mix of the new and old designs, with abit of land-raider inspiration aswell

my first prototypes were flawed and outright bad, so no piccies as they have been cut up, but after some trying, i got the templates right, and could start working up something tht looked good enough

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff59/bobo2605/DSC00059.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff59/bobo2605/DSC00060.jpg

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff59/bobo2605/DSC00061.jpg

(and here it is with a normal marine for size)

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff59/bobo2605/DSC00063-1.jpg

as you can see. its all still on a early stage, just the start of the basic cardboard frame. ill be adding plasticard details, bits, putty to touch up, etc, etc. and in the end, it should look nice and tank-y.

also i made it so that the small turrets can be build on 25mm-bases, and in case iam gunna go razorback or predator, there is room to make a main-turret on a 40mm-base

and since this is my own original design, i guess iam kinda in my right to post the templates that i also personally made for the basic hull-parts

thanks for looking, hopefully more to come
