...just...wow...

Thanks IronKobra!

That is one awesome looking army you got there I really like all the lighting effects, they really make the miniatures stnd out, Great stuff!!

Thanks Dark Rage!

Looking at the astarte by astartes pictures of the squad... Your posing improved. You're making them feel like they want to rip into the enemy; you have raised the cahinswords so that they are not merely at the ready, and de-emphasized the pistols by lowering them.

Remember, Blood Angels will take a chainsword over a bolter. Keep that in mind when you build these guys, and it'll help.

I'll keep that in mind for the future. Thanks.

Hey eggroll, awesome awesome marines, I am now convinced I have to buy an airbrush... although it will cost half of my 14 year old life savings... :P

But what model airbrush do you have/recommend, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks verpine. I use an Iwata Revolution BR airbrush. It's been a fantastic and reliable AB so I definitely recommend it.

Impressive! Some feral blood scouts would be a nice addition!

cu

Thanks Flarack though I'm not a huge fan of the scout models. Maybe once I finish the rest of my unpainted models I'll buy some scouts to round out the rest of my collection.

why have I not seen these before :o they're stunning :)

Thanks Sons of Horus!

Small break between painting and decided to build some models tonight. I ended up doing a honor guard squad for Mephiston...more details below...

But first, here are some models I built before that still need priming and painting

Chaplain w/ Jumppack, Terminator Chaplain, Librarian

Sanguinary Guard...I still have an unopen box of these to make 10 in total, think I'll wait to build the other 5 before starting on the whole group. I'm also leaving their wings off till the end.

All the armor I've been slowly building so here's what's included - 1st box: fully magnetized baal pred, landspeeder, bike, attack bike; 2nd box: lascannon pred, autocannon pred and razorback.

Finally my honor guard for mephiston. These are from the DA veteran squad box and since Mephiston wears robes, these guys will work well with him. The banner is from the fantasy empire general box which fits well here for the honor guard for the lord of death. Did tons of chopping to put it in the hands of a marine with a somewhat proper pose. I also used a spear head from a dark elves on cold ones box since the empire standard originally came with the grim reaper holding sigmar's hammer. Had to chop that off, drill and pin the spear. Was nerve racking trying to drill a hole in the spear banner pole that's maybe 1mm bigger in diameter than my drill bit. Also had to scrape off the sigmar's comet from the shield as well. Also spent a long time cutting off all the DA specific iconography though some areas with just a general sword symbol I kept since it's more universal.

So I'm back in the hobby after a long absence and I'm super focused on improving my painting. Your army has been very inspiring. So, thank you for that!

I'm wondering if you could do me a favor and post a picture of your death company's jumppack engines, the firey bit. I'm working on my first set of assault marines, and looking for a nice template for a "hot" engine. Some of your pictures give me a nice off-angle on the jet's and they look great, I'm just wondering how they look "square on".

Thanks!

Much better, my friend ;) Not sure if you started painting, if you have, this is slightly late, but...

The power fist is slightly awkward on the banner bearer, simply because it isn't doing anything. Possibly give the power fist to another member? I really can't think of how myself could improve on that...

On the DA bitz using models, the only flaw I could find was that the power maul bearer's pistol was a tad bit too high. Also, it may be an issue with how you posed the shield bearer when you took the picture, but are you planning to have his head looking over the shield?

Looking forward to seeing these painted, Thirst

Sure, I'll try and get a pic of it next time I'm posting new pics.

Great work Eggroll!

Can i ask how you painted Dante's axe - was it with the airbrush (needing rounded masking)?

Cheers

=I=

I actually did it by hand with light glazes and inks. No airbrush for that one.

Yeah, not entirely happy with the banner bearer but don't want to go back and play around with it now. The champion is looking over the shield, it's held at about eye level for the model.

Hey Eggroll, fantastic mini's you have here. Apologies if this has already been asked - but whats the recipe you use for your blonde hair?

Edemia

Thanks, for the blond hair I do a basecoat in p3 rucksack tan, then highlighted up to p3 menoth white base.

Been a long time since my last update, was lacking motivation for awhile and then go sick and was out for a week. Finally got back into things and painted my chaplains. I'm still playing around with my blacks and putting some colour and hard lining the edges which has turned out quite well. Used shadow grey to give area highlights and codex grey to highlight edges:

Do you paint everything with airbrush? Everything? Because if you do... your purity seals are impossible

Oh, and I understand your comments. It's good to see you back, Eggroll, regardless of whether or not you have poor posing, because your painting is awesome :D

Posing, what posing?

i just look at the colors :P

Heh, actually I only do base coats, and the main highlights and shadows with the airbrush. Everything else is by hand.

Hi ya Eggroll,

I have been following your work and posts for a while now, verry impressive.

Suprisingly though of all your fantastic work, the models that struck me the most were the servitors from the techpriest.

I just love the skin on these guys.

Although for myself I wouldn't get these models I loved this.

Keep it up mate great inspiration, as you may have noticed, for the rest of us.

Cheers Papa

Some of the finest Blood Angel tanks/transports I've ever seen. Wonderful.

Thanks!

Thanks DM!

Please, call me Darius ;)

Will do Darius.

Thanks papa. I'm actually very pleased with the way they turned out as well. First time trying to add some colours like blue and red in my skin tones and they came out quite well with all the different colour nuances.

Took some pics of my DC Dread with blood talons and magna grapple tonight. Just finished it, the photos are a bit over exposed so the blue highlights on the black came out a bit brighter than what it looks like in person. I also swapped out the rear exhaust of the model with ones from the venerable dread kit. Overall I really like this new BA dread kit and will be using the other arm parts for some of my other dreads I still need to paint up.

Also a quick shot of my shelf of BA characters...my detolf is completely out of room, I need to buy a new case or start packing away some models to make room for new ones...

it just gets better and better!

Thanks Darius!

'elbows' He looks almost calm

So you blend by hand... And Ithought it was some special airbrush thing. Makes it all the more impressive ^_^

I do both though many of the larger surfaces I use the airbrush. Smaller spots I do by brush.

Holy Ghost of Captain Tycho, these models are AMAZING!!! If I could paint half as well as you I'd be happy. You'll have to forgive me while I stop drueling.

Thanks Sanguin.

Were those power claws (correct term?) on the dread airbrushed?

Yup, the talons were airbrushed and edged highlighted by brush.

Finished up a librarian last night and managed to get some good shots of it in my lightbox:

Also took the opportunity to get some pics of my previous paintjobs on the chaplain and dread...

Next up, I have three more dreads to do which I'm going to paint in a batch process.

As always, excellent stuff. And the armor definitely pops a lot more now that there's more contrast between the plates and where they overlap.

Might I trouble you for your skin recipe?*

Oh snap yea that just happened...

Thanks DV8. The edge highlighting has definitely helped in defining various areas.

For the skin, I start with a base coat of GW tarin flesh and then mark out shadowed areas with watered down tarin flesh and regal blue (50/50). Then I add some colour with a 50/50 mix of regal blue and P3 sanguine base. Then I go through and clean up areas with the tarin flesh again. Finally, I highlight up to RMS Fair Skin using 50/50 mix with tarin flesh going up to pure fair skin. I have an old assortment of paints and brands but I'm sure you can replace those colours with your own. It's pretty much dark red and dark blue for shadows and midtones on a normal skin tone base with highlights of a light skin tone.
